Okay, but I'm not talking about Holy. Just the idea your theory attaches to it.

Well, the whole explanation of "Seven seconds til the end" states that it references the vision of the planet being destroyed, seven seconds before it's demise.

Which is the vision of Meteor about to make contact with the surface and ultimately wipe out all life. Which is Meteorfall from FFVII.

That's the fate that awaits the end of the Remake if things do not change and judgment ultimately decides humanity is not worth saving.

No, it says "In the world beyond, Sephiroth shows Cloud a vision of the planet seven seconds before its demise." I don't see anything there that, to my eye, resembles a vision of Meteor or Holy -- just some lifeless-looking place (the planet?) and a nebula or two.

Having the Japanese text of this might help us. Any chance you could grab a screenshot of that?

See, I took the "world beyond" to mean the singularity space itself and the vision as the moment where Sephiroth makes his grand entrance riding a Meteor.

The area that the party was standing in before Sephiroth appeared, was a white tranquil area that brought to mind how Holy magic appeared. The music that plays during this peaceful moment sounds just like what played when Holy and the Lifestream ultimately destroyed Meteor, and of course when FFVII began. Aerith also conveniently doesn't answer Cloud's question of where they were either. A habit she seems really good at perpetuating :monster:

Then the Meteor crashed through this space, and the heroes were suddenly in the air, with Meteor bearing down above them. As if the party were inside Holy before Meteor began to push through Holy and then make it's way to the surface.

I agree, if anything I feel it's more a reference to the Planet Bugenhagen shows us in his Observatory, a dead shell desprived of the Lifestream.

But it's in the dead-looking place that Seph says the thing about 7 seconds.

Also, screenshot: yes, no, maybe so?

I honestly figured Sephiroth was speaking to Cloud about what he had seen before he made it to the Edge of Creation and had his trial-run of their fated showdown in the Lifestream. Because in that space, we don't see the planet 7 seconds before destruction. It's when we see Sephiroth make his grand entrance we see Meteor coming down and presumably about to strike Midgar. Just like in his kid-unfriendly Shinra presentation of the future.

Do you mean screenshot of the Japanese text of the story log? Sure, I can do that once I get back and play it! I'll post it in the thread and tag you.

@The Twilight Mexican whelp, that didn't work :monster:

I tried to changing my game's text to Japanese however changing my system language and the game's language setting, still left all the in-game text as English. I don't know how to actually change the game's text to Japanese. Is that even possible and I'm just not aware of it?

Alright, I finally caught up and finished reading the last couple of pages of posts. @Makoeyes987 I think your theory is pretty interesting, even if I very much don't agree with it. Also you misremembered a couple of factoids, the dog is called Stamp and not Spot. And Aerith doesn't actually know Cloud's name before he tell's her it (at least in the English script), it's just his SOLDIER and merc status that she seems to supernaturally infer.

Regardless of what the Zack mystery turns out to imply (be it a simply a fake-out and delayed death and no timeline shenanigans, an alternate timeline (that may or may not interact with the Remake narrative), or the same timeline requiring an in-narrative paradox to be explained) I don't think (and hope) the ??? Sephiroth is going to be a separate temporal being from the rest of the Remake!Sephiroth (who's also presumably has his real body chilling in the Northern Crater). Even if the ??? Sephiroth turns out not to be Jenova!Sephiroth either, I feel like the explanation will have it be some other form of Northern Crater!Sephiroth remotely expressing himself through some power.

As for Aerith knowing about her death or not, I can still see her having some sort of vague premonition of a big/scary event coming but not exact knowledge of her death as being equally viable with the possibility of her straight up knowing about it. I definitely prefer the former, but if the latter does have to be the situation in the future installments, I hope it's not just a passive acceptance on her part (even Jesus despaired and questioned his fate IIRC).

Clearly it's Mandela Effect at work here.

I swear. :monster:

@Theozilla My mistake, I guess I got so tripped out over Sephiroth suddenly appearing in Cloud's head it kinda just overshadowed the beginning of Aerith and Cloud's formal introduction.

They would definitely play it out like that. I don't see them having her just accept it. If they do go that route, it's to examine the struggle and anxiety of facing one's impending death. Or at least the possibility of one's death.

I feel like part 2 is gonna sting if they're going beyond 3. Would make a natural "Empire Strikes Back" downer middle part otherwise but they're gonna have to go pretty bananas to make it feel like a weighty installment. Making Midgar its own game makes total sense, I'm not sure anyone views those early world traversing the same way. Trilogies are generally easier to swallow than... God knows what this turns out to be. (The ghost of Half Life 2s episodes floats overhead)

Nomuras comments about giving every small section the Midgar treatment have me kinda doing a worriedlaughter.gif

Are we gonna spend 30 hours in Junon or something man

Lacking the eventual Chapter "Third Stamps the Charm" and "Zack is BACK, Dimensional Traveler" on Part 2.

otherwise, realistic prediction.

Every Part has to end with a compulsory Sephiroth boss battle, so Tets' breakdown looks very possible.

The question is, would I rather have four parts, and a new part every two years, or three parts, with a new part every three years?

I am just catching up with this thread but as for why some events can be different? Think of it as being a bit like Doctor Who. *little* things can change, but there are certain events within that flow that are *fixed points*, things that if they change blow the entire timeline to Hell. *Those* are the points that the Whisperers are designed to preserve.

For instance, Cloud going in to behead Reno. Whispers stopped it because that is a *fixed point* within the flow.

I had the same sort of thing in mind, and now that the whispers aren't around to protect these "fixed points" the plot has the potential to kinda slide off the rails as it progresses, since the characters are no longer going to be strong-armed into doing the things the originally did at crucial moments. Given what the interviews in the ultimania say, I guess things can't be super different though.

Does that "fixed point in time" concept have any kind of basis in physics? (I know the multiple universes concept has a basis in quantum physics; don't ask me to explain it).

IIRC, in Dr Who Captain Jack Harkness was in his own person a fixed point. I wonder if Reno and Barret are less "fixed points" and more like "beings essential to the forward flow of time" or something.
