The thing is, I've never seen it as asking Cloud to make a choice, but asking Cloud who will be victorious in the end- the memory that is causing the issue, or the 'us', the entire family, including Cloud.
It's not about Cloud making a choice, but a stand.

Well that's a valid stand point.

I'd have to disagree on the 'choice' part. I do see it as a choice though, if the preposition "or" is anything to go by, figuratively or literally. It's either or; it sounds like a choice. (A choice essentially made by is actions.)

And that is essentially what the question was for. The issue is which memory Tifa was questioning, which is really just up for interpretation.

I'm assuming since you're with the "entirely Cloud's issues" side because you see it in general terms of which side Cloud will take a stand, and taking "memory" in context of the entire compilation and paratexts (interviews, ultamanias, etc) surrounding the work. And that's fine.

I'm just saying, a close reading of the line itself and the conversation in which it belongs analyzed along with the entire film (or the entire compilation) would suggest other things. It can't just be skipped over...

but if you're all about the big picture, then that's fine. :)

Tifa Pwnage 101
As for why they own bikes and airships and Yuffie uses parachutes when she can to mega jumps, in the first case, it's a matter of simple energy efficiency, it's a much more expedient process to use the vehicle's energy rather than their own, especially as it is capable of much longer sustained expenditure.

I pretty much saw it that way too, I wasn't that serious with my post, but this is what most people, new to FF, seem to bring out most often.

As for the latter, a matter of control. Only Vincent can truly fly, the others are simply making the equivalent of boosted jumps. While theoretically possible to alter their midair momentum by controlled bursts

How do you explain Yuffee running on the side of a construction like she did? or Tifa being able to suspend herself in midair, after doing what you call a "boosted jump". It's only logical that the properties that would allow her to pull something like that off would also give her an ability to fly.

Is Kadaj the only Sephiroth?
During the confrontation scene with Rufus, we see Kadaj show his true colours in being a Sephiroth clone. And he was the one to dip into Jenova cells and become Sephiroth. But if Loz or Yazoo had gotten to them could they turn into Sephiroth too? Initially, they're all clones, right? So they each have an equal chance of being Seph, Kadaj just got to the cells first, right?
Technically, they're not "clones", but rather "Remnants", manifestations of Sephiroth's will. As you can see especially clearly in ACC, though they assume physical forms, they're not entirely corporeal beings. This is how they form their clothing, how Kadaj enters Healen through a closed door, how they insert materia into their bodies, and so on.

Since the Remnants are essentially just "Sephiroth's will", it's really not that different from what Sephiroth does throughout much of FFVII with Jenova's body, controlling it with his will and even having it take his physical appearance.

But, in short, since they're all made of Sephiroth's will, any one of them could have "become Sephiroth" with Jenova's cells, yes. As Kadaj personified Sephiroth's charisma and ability to lead, he was naturally the leader of the group and Sephiroth's primary puppet, as well as the one which had the greatest understanding of his own situation as Sephiroth's puppet.

How do they know Marlene is with Tifa?
After the fight with Tifa, Loz speaks to Kadaj/Yazoo and says "All right, I'll bring the girl." But how do they know Marlene is there, much less who she is. And why do they need her? When she's at the scene at the Forgotten City, she just stands there. She has no Geostigma.
I believe the intention was to use her as a hostage or bargaining chip, not neccesarily anything deeper than that.

Why doesn't Tifa get Geostigma?
After Cloud runs to Tifa while she's fainted and he starts to have a relapse of the stigma, his arm starts doing the melty thing. It's clear that one gets the Stigma from direct contact, and he's leaning right over her. Granted his arm is supporting her, but it leaks from all around his arm. Why doesn't she get it?
Geostigma's not contagious, regardless of how some may think it came across in ACC. In the world of FFVII, it was originally believed to be contagious, and there are probably still some who think it is, but it really isn't.

Geostigma is actually not an infection, but rather an autoimmune disease. The bodies of those afflicted try in vain to fight off and expel the foreign cells, damaging themselves in the process, resulting in the black puss-oozing stigmata that give the disease its name. It poses more of a threat to children, the elderly, and people with frail bodies, though the concentration and amount of Jenova cells in the body are also factors. For example, Ruvie was more-or-less killed instantly when the Lifestream passed through her body.

Kadaj is flaming.. is he gay?
At the Forgotten City, Kadaj starts bursting into flame when he's speaking to the children. Is this his limit break? Is that how he expels the black stuff into the water? Also, what IS the black stuff? The children already have Jenova cells in them from the stigma, so what's the black stuff they're drinking?
People seem to generally assume that it's either a Limit Break, or just a sign that he's activating the ability.

The black stuff is the manifestation of Sephiroth's will, the same stuff that formed the Remnants and their clothing. When the children drink it, it "activates" their Jenova cells. This not only cures their Geostigma (because their bodies stop rebelling against the cells) and increases their physical capabilities, but also allows them to be directly manipulated and triggers the Reunion instinct in the Jenova cells, which Kadaj hopes will help him find Jenova's head.

What Materia was affecting Loz/Yazoo?
When Cloud comes in on the crew, we see a glow of materia as Loz and Yazoo are shooting at him. It seems to be boosting their power/shooting. But what materia does that? o_O
Various support materia, most likely.

Which lake is it?
Are the lake that the kids drank at, and the lake where the phone drops the same connected lake? During different scenes we see large bodies of water that all seem to be connected to eachother. However when Cloud's phone drops into the lake, and we get an underwater view, it's very much a deep deep small circular lake that doesn't get much shallower. That's gotta be where Aerith was laid to rest... But ingame, Aerith is laid to rest in the front lake, which is where the kids were drinking the water. *confusion*
The pool of water Cloud's phone drops into is a different one. The lake the kids go into is the one where Aerith was laid to rest.

THEY ARE TAINTING HER RESTING PLACE!!!
Yes, Kadaj taints her resting place with Sephiroth's will. He also kicks over Zack's sword and tramples the flowers in the Sector 5 church -- all of the places most closely tied to Cloud's guilt, where the symbolic wolf appears.

Coincidence? Unlikely.

How familiar is Marlene with Vincent?
Marlene goes and runs behind Vincent's cloak, when Cloud's being a douche. But how familiar is she with him? We don't get him early on in the game, so she never has any direct interaction with him. And she lives in 7th Heaven with the others. I'm wondering if she even knows him! Why would she hide herself behind him?
They've probably met or at the very least knows who he is, and he obviously just rescued them both, so there's no reason for her to not feel safe around him, really.

VincentxAerith now?
Vincent says he goes to the forgotten city often. Why? Kadaj's gang only got there like.. yesterday. :monster:
Since he's investigating the Shinra Company and their practices, and likely the cause of his own particular condition, it makes sense that he would spend time at the ruins of Cetra civilization. He's also probably something of a vagabond, and the forest and capital certainly suit his somber attitude, so it's not unlikely that he would rather be there than, say, Costa del Sol.

"Which is it? A Memory or us?"
This was something that bugged me for a while. Is she referring to the memory of the forgotten city and Aerith's resting place? I dunno.
She's basically just asking him if he's going to stay hung up on the past or if he'll move on and return to those who care about him and need him. He of course ultimately gets his priorities in order and moves on, coming to terms with the deaths of his friends and relegating Sephiroth to the status of "just a memory".

I also think that the word memory is more of a collective reference of the past instead of just Aerith.

Regarding ACC/AC...small random thing that I always wondered about is how Tifa, Denzel and Barret all have Cloud's wolf rings. Does he manufacture them and give them out on a first come first serve basis or something? :P

Duh :awesome:

But that black shit is just his mind-control juice. I'd guess it's made of Negative Lifestream -- perhaps releasing that stuff -is- a Limit Break of Kadaj's. It looked like it.

Which lake is it?
From the scene, Cloud's phone falls from his pocket when he crashes Fenrir to avoid child-bowling. I don't see Aerith's lake or that funky shell house anywhere near the area, and the phone drops into what looks like a puddle. A very deep, deep, puddle. There's 'puddles' like that in other spots in the AC/C version of Forgotten City, might be some kind of geological reason for lots of little deep holes like that (if the other puddles are deep. If not, then artistic license. :wacky:)

How familiar is Marlene with Vincent?
I don't doubt that Barrent intoduced Marlene to everyone after FFVII.

What'd I'd really like to know most is why is it that, when Marlene asks "May I?" referring to a phone, Vincent seems perfectly content to just let the six-year-old play with a triple-barrel handgun. :monster:

Wasn't he just showing her that he wasn't carrying a phone? :monster:

And I understand everyone's reason about introducing Marlene to Vincent, but it's Vincent! He's supposed to be all cold and stoic and afraid of people. It just seemed very OOC for me to see Marlene running to him and he didn't cringe at the human contact of a child.

Then again, I don't know many Immortal humans, but Vincent just seemed like he should react as such to me. :wacky:

He looks kind of put out when she mentions that it isn't a phone. I always figured that he thought she meant the gun. :awesomonster:

And they never said Vincent was afraid of people. Just aloof. And he's too cool to actively run from a little girl. Especially if Tifa probably taught said little girl that it's acceptable to thwap men.

On the other hand, Marlene was raised by Barrett. She can probably strip a Kalashnikov in under a minute.

But yeah, "I wanna talk to Tifa." "My phone's missing" is probably enough to let Vinnie know what she was talking about.

And Vinnie's aloof, not phobic.

But he doesn't say "My phone's missing" he just half assedly looks for it. =/

True he doesn't literally declare his phone's gone, but he does look for it, then gives a shake of his head. That was what I was summarizing, and it was enough context for me, I figure it's probably enough for Vinnie.

Vinnie might have seen it fall, too. Who knows, though.

Cloud should have taken better care of it.

Also what bugged me was the resting place deal. I got confused because Aerith says her line when the phone falls in the water which leads one to interpret that it fell nearby where she is.... or is that just me?

How could Cloud have taken better care of it in a fight for his life he was losing?

Vincent: Let's get out of here!!!! *shoots*
Cloud: Wait...HOLD ON EVERYONE. STOP FIGHTING. I DROPPED MY PHONE. PLEASE LOOK DOWN AT YOUR FEET.
Kadaj: ...... *stares*
Vincent: .....Are you sure this can't wait?
Cloud: YES I'M SURE IT CAN'T!

And no, I never thought that. The phone just fell in the water, and Aerith's power was keeping the water from actually touching the phone, hence it being surrounded by bubbles and playing all of Cloud's messages at once.

You know Mako you can be a real douche sometimes. :monster:

I just don't get why all these messages from other people all "ZOMG Clod we mizz yuuu" and then BAM Aerith motif on forgiveness going on. WHY? Is she speaking in the water? Is that why there's bubbles?!

I try :monster:

I dunno why it happened there either to be honest. I think the message though, is that Cloud neglects his voicemails and with him not checking his voicemail and shutting himself off, he missed an important message that everyone, including Aerith, was trying to tell him. It wasn't his fault.

I think this movie came out about the same time as VII, so my messed up head equated Cloud's personality and Damon's character together for a while.

This confirms that I am lame. :monster:
