Wow, I really like this piece by Nomura. It’s interesting when he wanders out of his normal style. He’s definitely pushing for more realistic proportions/features than his usually cartoony style.

I know it must have been answered prior, but what is part of the canon for FFVII Remake? Did they state it somewhere? I tried looking on the site but it only talks about the FFVII OG canon ;(

Basically the Compilation is canon except where contradicted. Which is pretty much the way Square approaches everything, lol

Didn't somebody say something about the remake being an "alternate reality" to the original? I figure they'll just keep the elements they like, and disregard the ones they don't. Business as usual for Square.

Yes, Nomura recently clarified that the original isn't being overwritten by the remake and players should think of them as separate:

Yeah, though to be clear, I don’t believe Nomura is describing the OG as an alternate reality within the Remake itself as a plot point. He’s just saying to view the Remake and OG as separate canons of the overall same story being told.
Like the various cinematic versions of King Kong as a film.

This segment in particular I felt validated a lot of things I have thought about the remake for a while. How changing the audio-visual medium of the game inherently changed the storytelling of it.

In issue 174 (May) of PlayStation UK Magazine there is an extra book for the FFVII Remake with an interview with Yoshinori Kitase and Naoki Hamaguchi. There's also little snippets throughout the book from them but I can't tell if those parts are something they've already said in past interviews or are new for this.
