Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge's Roles in the Remake Thread

This was posted in the LTD thread, but I don't think it had made its way over here yet:

Ugh. Jessie left out again. They've given her a much larger role in the remake and apparently plenty of scenes with Cloud, so I wish it would have been mentioned in here. She's into him, too, after all, and is alive for a large part of the game. But because she isn't Aerith or Tifa, she gets left out of pieces like this. I wish, just once, she'd be included and remembered.

Why not? She is interested in him, after all. Let her be remembered and included for once. She's in a large part of this game, so that changes things a bit from how it was in the OG.

I get where you're coming from, but we don't know how she'll be remembered. I think you'll just have to live with the fact that the creators didn't want to put as much time or effort into Jessie as they did Aerith and Tifa. That's not to say that fans aren't going to remember her though. Remember, I did tell you that Luna was one of my favorite characters in FF15.

What I mean is, the simple fact that she's interested in Cloud just like Aerith and Tifa are. So for Part 1, there's no reason for her to be left out of consideration. The creators put a lot of effort into her to make her what she is and develop her story, and from what I've been told, she has a fair number of moments and scenes alone with Cloud. So again, no reason to exclude her when the material is already in the game and the game itself, from what Alex said, does nothing to refute the possibility that something could have developed between them had events happened differently.

I guess, I just don't mind when she gets left out of stuff like this. Especially when we know she has been give a larger role in the remake. Advertisements don't make a difference to me. It's not going to alter my opinions on her once I get the game.

I get that, it's just that it would be nice to see her included for once, that's all. That it's not all about the same characters all the time, and that for once she'd get more than just a passing mention when she is brought up.

The only reason a secondary character's presence would be increased to match that of main characters is if they were being made into a main cast member. Obviously that's not going to be the case.

That being said, from what I've seen, Jessie's presence -- in nearly every way -- is given as much consideration as a secondary cast member possibly could. Really, all three of the Tragic Avalanche Trio get remarkable consideration, and each get something special.

What I was talking about is being mentioned in interviews like this rather than being left out, and in more than a passing fashion. Not all the time, but here and there. Just one that's only about them, maybe. And I was also talking about the LTD and how with her greatly increased time and interaction with Cloud one on one in the remake along with her established interest in him, she doesn't have to be left out of it for Part 1 but can be included.

I just don't see how simply being a secondary character should prevent her from being included as part of the LTD when she's as interested in Cloud as Tifa and Aerith are and has a lot more time and interaction with him now than she used to. She's as viable a love interest as they are, but let me define "love interest" first so you know what I mean.

Love interest - a character who has or could potentially have or develop a romantic interest in the main character, who has or could potentially have or develop a similar interest in said character. This is regardless of how far things actually progress between the two characters.

By that definition, Jessie is as valid and viable a love interest as Tifa and Aerith because of her attraction toward Cloud and because, while he's typically passive, that's not the same as being indifferent. And it's possible to be attracted to someone but not show it much, either because one doesn't know how or is afraid to or for other reasons. With Cloud, I think any attraction he may have for her would be more potential than shown since he's so reserved, but that doesn't mean it can't have been there. The possibility for it exists, and since the game does nothing to refute it, its validity stands. Which means that the second half of the above definition also makes Jessie a viable love interest for him.

On another note, it would be nice to see Jessie with her hair down and in a different outfit, even if it's just once.

I'll say, the LTD is a fan invention. It's one of the most ingrained aspects of the fandom, even. So whether or not Jessie got involved would be up to the fans. A vocal Jessie subset is emerging, and will likely continue to grow as square gets off their asses and finally gets th his stupid game to the rest of the world, but the vast majority of people are still Cloti or Clerith. Itll take something big to get that to change, as that's how its been for 23 years now.

To give a bit of an explanation on the Avalanche Trio presence in the game...

Game has 18 chapters from what we know. I only know what matches what up to the point where I am, which is Chapter 9. Jessie, as Biggs and Wedge, have an important presence up to Chapter 4. That is really 4 Chapters out of 18 with a possible 5th if the Plate Drop section is a chapter in itself. They're definitely secondary characters but as Tres says, they're given as much love as they could be given to.

I would NOT in any case say that the Avalanche Trio are in a large part of this game, considering what I've played so far and knowing that most of the remaining game is without them. But what I do know is that I'm extremely satisfied with how they've used them (so far?), considering that their role in the original (which Square needed to stick to, for the most part) was very small. But it's still a few hours of enjoying their presence :) .

a little disappointing to be sure, but not unexpected. Was hoping there would be an interludewith them and Barretduring wall market. Guess not.

I was afraid of that. So much for SE's promise to really expand and develop them. They could have written the story to give them a much larger part in the pre-pillar section than they have. This is their only chance to have any spotlight in the series, but SE wouldn't even give them a full third of the game, at the very least. They should've been at the forefront of the entire pre-pillar section because that's the only time they have. But no, can't possibly let them have more than the most minimal presence in the game. Almost all the other notable characters in the game, major and minor, will return in later installments. The trio won't. So they should've been give more than just 4-5 chapters of significant screen presence to account for that.

There's got to be some scene or scenes with them during that time, Ody. The story has to show us how they found out about the pillar and knew to go there in the first place. And what about Barret and Tifa's return to the 7th Heaven and finding out about the Don in the first place? And her coming up with her plan? The trio would be around for that, and their reactions, especially Jessie's, to hearing about what happened to Cloud in Reactor 5 is something we should be allowed to see. And also, SE could've used the remake as an opportunity to make that big change to the LTD that you spoke of, Ody, which would've kept it fresh and added a new element to it to give a completely new angle to the whole thing.

I agree that more time with them would've been nice. But maybe that short amount of time with them is filled with lots of "meat" instead of "milk." Also, maybe there will be flashbacks in later parts, so we don't know if they won't be there.

I hope you're right. I just know that bringing back the VA's for flashbacks in the later parts would involve new contracts and more pay, probably, and I don't know if SE would want to do that. But it would be nice if they gave us a trio-centric (or Jessie-centric) prequel DLC before Part 2 to make up for shortchanging us on their time in the actual game.

But what did you mean, Tres, that they each get something special? No spoilers, of course.

It would also be nice if, during the scene(s) at Jessie's house, we got to see a picture of her as a little girl. It'd be cute and add to her character. We get to see Tifa and Aerith that way, so why not Jessie, too?

It would've been nice if SE had done their tweet/post for the trio's renders individually like this for each of the three members separately rather than grouping them all together. And why do some characters get the closeup head and shoulder renders but not others? Why not everyone? It just would've been nice for the trio to get them, too.

Tres, all I did what what you said to do. I just said it would've been nice. I didn't make any sarcastic, demeaning, or deflating remarks, and I was just asking a question. Please move it back to the original thread.

Rufus does look killer, and Scarlet seems suitably dom, hehe...

Anyway, I decided to do what SE hasn't yet. I took the text from their official profiles on the US FF7R site, and I had to condense it in some cases since it ran a little long. Just wanted to share, that's all.
Lol those are pretty cool. Wedge's made me laugh haha
