I still want @hian to tell me when they think Part 1 will drop

If I'm going to guess for hian, I think 2020 is more likely to be the year for Part 1, because with KH3 releasing next month(AKA: next year), it'll be far too soon to release that part of the Remake, especially since Nomura was focusing on the former and once KH3 is released, then he'll focus on the Remake.

As he said earlier.

Speaking following E3 2018, Nomura stated that the game was in active development, with his full attention being shifted to it when Kingdom Hearts III was completed.

I'd be surprised if Part 1 of the Remake does come out at least late next year, though. But with Christmas in less than two weeks, he deserves a break, especially since KH3 was only completed last month.

On the flip side, that means that unless VII-R hits 2020 within the first season, that means they basically have no high level games to show for 2019 from Japan. Not even their Canada studios even, now that I think about it. They don't seem to have anything set to launch for the new financial year. Kingdom Hearts counts for this year.

So to not release something would be a failure of their initial proposed overview.

Life Is Strange 2 episodes are on track to take into the next financial year to come out in full. FFXIV Shadowbringers is coming out in 2019

Life Is Strange is produced by Square Canada, and both are lesser-than-triple-A products though, so neither really seem to meet the criteria outlined by that ...whatever you call that thing where they outlined their 3 year plan this year.

Life is strange 2 also wouldn’t generate such high profits.

2020 is also the last year in the “blockbuster games per year for the next three years” information that detailed their plans from 2017 - 2020

Edit: or was it from 2018 - 2020? 2021 maybe?Either way sometime within the next year and a half with PR running for upto a year.

After the interview about PR starting after Kingdom Hearts, I wonder when after. I’d realistically expect a month or two minimum to give the game time to breathe and accumulate sales. Means as well that they’ll be entering the next financial year.

When was that Avengers game supposed to be coming out?

No information on that as far as I’m aware, that will probably be the third game in the trilogy of games releasing 18/19, 19/20, 20/21 due to how little we know about it. Not seen anything mentioned about it since done the announcement

Weren’t they supposed to reveal more on the game this year? What is going on with Square recently...

Without going into too much deep thought on the subject, I'd hazard a guess that things are being managed very carefully over there. FF7 Remake is kind of their 'make or break' moment. Funny how things have a way of coming full circle... there was a time FF1 was that, for them...

Well, hence the name.

Not to mention that the Remake is probably one the biggest projects since it's being remade into three or maybe five from a game that had three discs of gameplay. Even KH3 doesn't compare to FFVII remake and it's the biggest KH game so far in history.

I was referring to Square as a whole.

They said we would hear more info about The Avengers Project this year.

We’ve heard nothing that I’m aware of and we are at the end of the year.

They said it’d be a “big year for FF” - I fail to see that.

Earlier in the year, near the start, they said they’d show off some Remake stuff “at the next big event”.

All events have passed now and absolutely nothing shown.

Left Alive had a release window of this year, we heard nothing for ages until suddenly it was actually a 2019 release and we’ve only found details out about it in the last few months.

I will be a bit worried if we hear nothing about the Remake between KH3 and E3 2019 and then really worried if it’s a no show at events again, including and from E3 onwards

I'm not expecting to see it at E3 next year. Sony aren't having a conference. There's always the chance that Square Enix will, or that the remake will show up in some other capacity. I just wouldn't pin any of my hopes on E3.

I say E3 as it’s mid-way through the year and is generally the biggest event. Though SE are meant to be at E3 anyway and what else have they got to show? The Avengers? More FFXIV stuff? Probably it and some currently unannounced games maybe but the Remake needs to be present in some capacity to quell any worries, I don’t think Sony not being there would have any bearing.

I’m not pinning hopes on E3 but if we hear absolutely nothing for the 4-5 months after KH3 release and they continue their absolute silence I will be worried.

While I think the first part of the game will release from late 2019 to early/mid 2020, each gaming event that passes without hearing anything big, it does get frustrating.

We hear nothing major until after E3 and more than half the year has gone? Then I will probably rethink my estimate.

I don’t think they’ll be silence for 6 months after KH3, I’d be happy with a little update on characters or how something works during an interview or something but if they are silent for half a year then I’ll probably be moving my estimate.

Big Year it was, in terms of shoveling out merchandise and mobile game stuff. Square has a habit of feeling overconfident about how people react to their products. Remember the announcement of the PS4 port of VII?

And they should learn by now that’s not what the fans expect.

They should also not try to talk everything up without being able to back up their claims.

Saying during an interview that more news about the remake will be shared during the year but absolutely nothing happening or being shown is ridiculous.

That’s not overconfidence... that’s getting fan hopes up unnecessarily. I don’t know of any other gaming company that consistently gets fans hopes and hype up, to then dash them with nothing being said further, just pure silence.

I also can’t believe they thought their E3 showing was something you “wouldn’t want to miss”

The PS4 port seemed a deliberate troll attempt too as they were already beginning to get the remake under production at the time. Though did also seem to think that was something fans would throw their money at, so I’ll give you that - that was mad overconfidence.

They need to stop making claims that they can’t seem to back up.

No one else here frustrated that they get interviewed, say more news about the Remake is going to happen then just not actually give out news? I for sure am. Getting really disappointed with Square over the last few years.

Well, there's the FF anniversery coming up, and its the same day as the new KH trailer. So if there was ever a day to go a bit blow-out, that might be it. It'd be nice if we see Cloud in KHIII on that day, and they follow up with some VII news just to inflate the excitement wave by association.

Worried about what?

What claims are they making?

Worried about the game and seeing it release in a reasonable time frame. Part 1 at least.

Maybe claims wasn’t technically correct, more like statements.
Have a look at my post about the statements made. The Remake related ones can be found in this thread somewhere I guess

Just frustrated at the zig zagging Square do and the things they say that go unfulfilled.

@ChipNoir

After Nomura having to state PR focus being on KH3 I don’t think there’ll be a blowout of info at this anniversary event you’ve mentioned

I still want @hian to tell me when they think Part 1 will drop :desucait:

My bet would would be Q4 2019 or Q1 2020.

Nah. KH3 releasing in Q1 of 2019 should have no impact on projects releasing post Q1 (Q2-4). The vast majority of sales happen in the first couple of weeks after a game releases, and pretty much dabs off at the end of the month, or two if you're lucky. Sales after that point are not really counted in as being related to release marketing nor are they seen as worth "protecting" marketing wise by delaying or not releasing other titles.

It will definitely not be "far too soon" to release the remake at that point as a matter of marketing, and we have no way of assessing whether it will be "too soon" in terms of the game's development.
All we "know" on that front is that development of the game is progressing very smoothly (or so SE reps keep telling us), and that the game should already have been out.
Combined with earlier reports of the game being further along than KH3 in certain areas quite some time ago, and combined with the fact that SE already thought it was okay to create the game without having Nomura on site in the first place (when it was being done at CC2), I see no reason to pressume Nomura's work on KH3 has much, if any, impact on the overall speed of the game's development. It's not like the develoment team sit on their asses twiddling their thumbs when Nomura isn't around.

For that reason I see no reason to think that the game could not already be closed to finished. With KH3 having gone gold, Nomura is most likely already largely off of that project.

Not to mention that the Remake is probably one the biggest projects since it's being remade into three or maybe five from a game that had three discs of gameplay. Even KH3 doesn't compare to FFVII remake and it's the biggest KH game so far in history.

There's just no way of saying that. We don't even know if they still plan on releasing it in parts. We have no idea how much they'll cut or add, how they'll structure the world etc.

As I've said earlier - for all we know FFVIIR is a super linear The Last of Us/Uncharted-ish take on FFVII, with just a bunch of levels separated by big set-piece battles and cut-scenes.
There's no reason what so ever to assume the game is larger than KH3.

Also, FFVII having 3 disks of gameplay? You do know that almost the entire reason the game came on 3 disks was because of the size of the prerendered cut-scenes right? Not because of the story length, or the gameplay.
FFVII is a one disk game that came on 3 disks because it was showed full of cutscenes.

I'm not expecting to see it at E3 next year. Sony aren't having a conference. There's always the chance that Square Enix will, or that the remake will show up in some other capacity. I just wouldn't pin any of my hopes on E3.

It's worth mentioning that while Sony aren't going to be present at E3, they have said they're exploring other options, and many industry and game's media professionals speculate that the reason for this could very well be because they plan on doing a 2019 PS Experience show instead to announce the PS5 -
and it could very well be that we might all be slapped across the face with a "FFVIIR as a launch-title for PS5" instead.
If that happens sometime in in the course of 2019, then I would slate FFVIIR for a 2020 release together with the PS5.

There's no reason what so ever to assume the game is larger than KH3.

There's plenty of reason. But since we actually don't know the size of Kingdom Hearts III, there's not much point.

And really, that's the whole problem with any speculation. As you covered, we know nothing about FFVIIR's construction. We've got a glimpse of key art, a few screenshots (all of which may or may not even fairly represent the final product), and whatever that artwork shown back at that exhibit was. It's oddly still up in the air how much the game will retain any RPG elements.

Honestly, this lack of information is simply... frustrating.
