You should get the Lost in Nightmares DLC, though. It's actually really, really good. It captures the old school RE feel perfectly. It's the most enjoyed one I think out of the pair.

I remember the RE1 remake, it was fantastic.

Lisa Trevor was quite seriously the scariest and most tragic thing about the whole game ;-; Although the fact that you faced her as Wesker meant that you didn't feel quite overwhelmed by overpowering bosses.

REmake was a fantastic game.

I think what pissed me off with RE5 the most was the game completely ignored so much of the series' legacy. That's including characters, monsters, and Viruses. There was so much they could draw from that they just said fuck you to. Which I found even more ridiculous since the game deals with the fallout from Umbrella's fall and Wesker's story.

I think that started precipitating with the Ganados in general, really. The only thing that RE4 had in common with RE2 (or the other previous games, for that matter) was Leon and Ada. And that was about it What utterly irks me is when my Nintendo fanchildren friends like talking about Resident Evil 4 is the best ever and they haven't a clue about any backstory and haven't even played the previous ones. They know it was about zombies, and that's it.

I mean, there weren't even flashbacks or anything in RE4, it might as well have been a totally different game from another franchise and that would have worked.

Not to say it was a bad game, it just allowed the opportunity for further games to be totally disconnected from it and even though they tried hard, RE5 was a step in the same direction.


EDIT: Come to think of it, the Trevor family might have been the most tragic thing in the entire series. Wesker's Report 2 brought a whole load of "hoshit that really sucks" into the backstory. Research guy goes for a bit of a travel with his family, meets up with an asshole who kidnaps his family and does horrible shit to all of them just so he can get something out of the Progenitor. =/


EDIT x2: I'm not sure if it was Wesker's Report 2 or not. Goddamnit, I read it like years ago and there was an official Capcom page for it and everything and now I can't find it on the net anymore ;-;

RE Remake is simply the best part of the series!
RE4 and RE5 took both story wise and gameplay wise a whole different direction.
I actually renamed my desktop shortcut of RE5 to Mercenaries 5.

I think what made RE4 so successful was the fact that it showed Resident Evil as a franchise was capable of branching out of the formulaic zombie attack and virus-fetching quest, and still be an awesome, engaging and interesting game.

The dynamic action sequences, balanced with the horrorific atmosphere really showed that Resident Evil at the time was capable of transitioning into the next generation and offer new, as well as some of the old. It just screamed franchise evolution.

But then RE5 came along and

It was like RE5 was a badly plagarized wannabe of RE4 with gimmickry tacked on. Storywise I'm not really complaining, what gets me is the letdown in gameplay. Co-op and mercenaries was awesome, but the actual main game itself just leaves you wondering, "is this it?" I fucking hate the chapter where you're basically on the truck using the gattling guns. It fucking screams lazy development. Levels off of The Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii were much more engaging and interesting than that.

And considering the boss of that level is that huge ass Majini that's supposed to make El Gigante look like a shitstain...its just...such a let down.

Yeah, the shitty ass story makes enough of a impression on it's own. Lol Wesker children, global saturation the not so secret supposed death of jill. It was like teenagers wrote it or something. Survival Horror became generic action movie.

Remember how your actions in old RE games could get people killed and change the outcome? I miss that.

Resident Evil 4 was badass. I fucking LOVE that game. It was different, but in such a good way. I would love to play an RE game in that style, but have the zombies be actual ZOMBIES. I think that'd be so cool and scary.

Dark Side Chronicles did not impress me at all. T_T Mostly because the Wii sucks, and it was too easy.

Although this statement probably isn't far from the truth,

Resident Evil 4 didn't really scare me as much as the other games before it did. I mean, there were some really good moments, like that bridge suspended over the chasm (god that fight was like HOOOOOOOSHIIIIIIT CONFINED SPACES HOOOOOOSHIIIIIIT THEY'RE DROPPING PARTS OF THE BRIDGE) and the first encounters of some of the big motherfuckers like Regenerators (Iron Maidens especially), but all in all, compared to zombies and the G-virus, they were really just dudes with parasites.
And I think it's that mindset which made it that much less scary than any of the other ones.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Degeneration was fucking cool?

Degeneration is ok, it's better than all of the films in a lot of ways, but the animation and character models were retard stiff.

Leon was badass though. I'm trying to find that .gif where he's like running for his life and he's like jumping over and sliding under and diving in between pipes just so he can get to another section of the building before it collapses.

In hindsight, the movie was pretty much RE4.5, although it didn't really say very much about Tricell except that they were obviously going to be the new villains
