Yeah, her pose isn't very dynamic. I like the composition of the rest of it, but overall it looks like it took 5 mins in photoshop like Hito said.

They should have done something more along the lines of the manga cover, something more 'embryonic' and then they could have had the other guys around the edges or whatever.

There's just something about the quality of the dialogue that rubs me the wrong way - the lines being delivered don't sound great. Particularly for a series that leans heavily on its conversations

Yeah I don't know....wait I know exactly. The philosophical stuff from the original film is not commercial enough, so they're going with...whatever that is.

And I still hate the hair, it looks so wispy and awful.

I've seen a number of comments that that bit of plot apparently bears a very strong resemblance to her backstory from Arise, but being as that's the only GitS entry that I haven't gotten around to watching, I can't speak on the accuracy of that. – On that note, I'm gonna try to watch through Arise this week as it's the one part of the trailer that specifically stood out as being odd to me, so that I can give an informed opinion on it.

ARISE was horrible and by far the weakest entry in the franchise, so it would not be a favourable comparison even if true.

And the only similarities I see is memory loss and the implied question of bodily autonomy when your physical body is technically a weapon of the state. All of the entries have touched that theme at some point, and considering that this film looks like a weirdass, shady eBay seller knockoff, I'm not holding my breath expecting it to be done well.

There's a few clips of her wearing a red jumpsuit very similar to that of the one the Major wears in Arise so I wouldn't be surprised if they want to crib some of those elements too

The Geishabot looks amazing. I'm really intrigued by this film, despite the qualms about animated films making the leap to real life on the big screen. I really hope it succeeds.

I need to actually get off my butt and watch the original animated stuffs.

We got the Funko Pops in for the film yesterday too. I wanted to buy them just because they look so badass.

We finally get ta hear Beat Takeshi in the Japanese trailer, and it's confirmed that he's speaking Japanese, so I'd bet that they haven't been showing him in the US trailers because the general populace are afeared of subtitles. I, for one, am pretty stoked that we're getting bilingual interactions to some degree in the movie.

also i hear kouichi yamadera (togusa) and i think that's atsuko tanaka (mokoto) at the end so i'm hoping for a faithful dub, though i guess aramaki would just be beat takeshi in both versions?

does this storyline sound like anything from the previous adaptations? i need to get back to watching stand alone complex

From some comments I've seen, I think that they're digging into Arise a little bit for the Major's backstory hints a little bit more than how they're mining it from 2nd GIG, though I still haven't watched Arise since it migrated off Netflix, so I should REALLY get 'round to doing that soon, so that I can catch ALL THE REFERENCES.

Also, yes you really should get 'round to watching SAC fgj.

Among them, this was a comment I felt that was worth bringing up:

"What issue could there possibly be with casting her?" Oshii told IGN by e-mail. "The Major is a cyborg and her physical form is an entirely assumed one. The name 'Motoko Kusanagi' and her current body are not her original name and body, so there is no basis for saying that an Asian actress must portray her."

I'm bet some folks feel that the director of the original anime film certainly isn't an authority on these things now.
