Well, let's just hope the dialogue isn't screwed up like some of the lines in Crisis Core.

I mean, seriously. When Sephiroth and Zack had the last word on the conversation in finding Angeal and Genesis in Reactor 5, before dropping the call, the quote Zack said, "Excellent! Probably!" that seriously does not make sense and it's just so wrong.

Now, as I'm working on a fanfic of Crisis Core(just for the fun of it) which also has events that doesn't happen in the game and is headcanon prequel in my headcanon franchise "Sailor Moon Continuum" with various titles including most original titles of Sailor Moon, Cardcaptors and Pokemon and ect, I've changed that quote to "Roger that! I'll see you in Reactor 5.".

Okay, so it's not the best lines I've wrote, but it's still a hellva lot better than that quote in the game, right?

...Yes it does. It means he's happy that Sephiroth is saying they're not going to kill Angeal and Genesis, but he's not sure it means a good thing either. It's a perfectly fine line.

I was aware that Zack realised that Sephiroth was serious and Excellent makes perfect sense.

It's "Probably" in that sentence that doesn't get me.

ForceStealer

Double Growth
Well it means directly defying the company's orders, and Zack hadn't been totally disillusioned with Shinra yet. Furthermore, they weren't sure how Angeal and Genesis were going to behave. Hence, he expressed a bit of doubt that it was "excellent," is all.

Zack's suppose to be excitable as a puppy. When Sephiroth does something surprisingly nice he's not gonna give a measured response. Unless your fanfic changes Zack's characterisation too.

Quite frankly it will be based of CC than the OG scene, but we've gotta wait and see.

I'm pretty sure that CC narrative is probably one among the noteworthy compilation products that is the most likely to see large changes because
except for the character designs by Nomura, and the writing by Nojima, this game had a completely different producer (Imaizumi), director (Tabata), and lead designer (Hirota) from FFVII and FFVIIAC.

Notice that Crisis Core is strangely absent in the interviews in regards to talk of story and design while Advent Children has been mentioned plenty.
CC hasn't been mentioned once except in terms of its battle system.

Add that to the fact that the game is a relatively minor entry for an outdated handheld system that has no digital re-release, and that one of the core characters of the story can no longer be used as is due to licensing issues
[Genesis, which is as far as I know either now a shared property of Gackt's or largely a property of Gackt since the character is modeled after him, is still in use in his music videos - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXp0v93ZRTs - and live-concert DVDs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTl0EEYT7H0 - (yeah that's right, he performed a live concert while in his Genesis get-up where he rode up on stage on a god damn horse), whilst Crisis Core itself is not available except physically for PSP and is no longer being printed]
I think it's relatively safe to say that CC will not survive as is, as the official account of what happened prior to FFVII when they do the rewrites for the remake.
Again, like seriously, they can't even use Genesis without completely redesigning him from the ground up, clothing and all - so why stop there?

That's not to say that they'll revert to something closer to the original scene. However, going by the fact that they decided to implement the classic Buster Sword design, and looking at how true to the original the intro sequence of the game-play trailer was, I don't think we're going to see the "glorious fall of Zack" version with him ascending into heaven or whatever.

Oooh I never thought about the Gackt/Genesis issue. Juicy. It is a fact that they can no longer use the character due to his ownership, or are you just speculating? I would assume that when they made the deal to use his likeness in the first place, and paid him, he signed away any rights he may have had. Or he gets compensated every time they choose to use it...again, depending.

CC Genesis doesn't even look ALL that much like him, AND he's in a different outfit than he has in Dirge. That would be a weird reason, but I suppose not an impossible one.

Although, as I've been saying all along, there's no reason for Genesis to be in the remake at all anyway.

Yeah, but still, the sentence in that still sounds wrong in my opinion.

I know that, I'm just saying that the way Zack says it or how the english translators dialogued it just sounds wrong.

And no, I tried hard not to change Zack's characterisation in my fanfic at all. I try very hard not to change any characters' characterisations in any of my fanfics as best as I could. Plus, he did also striked me as a bit clueless but not that clueless.

That fanfic of mine is a Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy VII and a little bit of Pokemon and Sailor Moon fanfic, but mainly a KH/FFVII fanfic, titled, "Kingdom Hearts: Crisis Core" and it's still in progress.

Feel free to take a look on the FF.N fansite. I did, however, change some of the dialogue from the CC game and added new things to it, so there are some changes, but the storyline is slightly the same but at the same time completely different.

Well the reason why Genesis' outfit is slightly different is because he has let feathers grow on his shoulder and he did spend three years asleep.

Tennyo

Higher Further Faster
Zack was just uncertain of the future. Angeal was his mentor and he cared about him a lot. Be was excited that Sephiroth was going to "fail" to capture Angeal, but there was still plenty to be worried about.

It's speculation but it's a fairly reasonable inference to make based on the following :

1.) there is absolutely no reason for CC not be on the Japanese PS digital store for the Vita when every other FF title from PSP is there, except licensing issues.
2.) The only licensing issue that would be hard to over-come is the use of Gackts voice for the voice-acting, and his face for the model.
Theme songs etc. are easily replaceable. Rerecording voice-acting for a prominent character and changing the model is not.
3.) DoC and CC have not been redistributed since their original releases in digital format, but Gackt's media using the image Genesis was based on is still available digitally at this point in time.

The contract with Gackt having run out is the most reasonable explanation.
That being said SE could renew it, or something - but the fact that they haven't up to this point, despite CC such a hit on the PSP, either shows that Gackt is unwilling, or that they don't consider it to be a profitable move overall.
In either case, I can't see this changing for the remake - so Genesis, at least in his current form, is out in either case.

CC Genesis doesn't even look ALL that much like him, AND he's in a different outfit than he has in Dirge.

That just goes to see how people see thing differently.
I think CC's Genesis is obviously Gackt by the face alone, and that should be the case since the 3D model was modeled after him after all.

The outfit's difference is also a minor one.

Knowing the draconian IP and copy-right laws of Japan, and how strongly they tend to be enforced, there is no wonder that SE would not be able to release a game with a character that ostensibly has the face of a celebrity if their licensing contract has been terminated.

Well I sure hope that is the case. I'm not against a mention of Genesis (or indeed Angeal etc etc), and I mean like a really subtle mention ie. Maybe while going about in the Shinra building you might come across a document mentioning Project G or something. But I wouldn't want anyone making a big deal of it, it should just be an easter egg at most.

Well, if they're redesigning him completely, and perhaps even doing major ret-cons to the entirety of FFVII's story, CC included, then Genesis might actually be made into an interesting character worthy of a place in the narrative.

I doubt they could pull that off, but who knows?

If done properly, it could add a new layer of "new" to the remake that would expand upon the experience for old players.

As I've come to embrace a sort of "reboot" perspective of the remake, I'm much more excited by the stuff they'll do entirely different now, than what they'll keep the same =S

I mean I guess so, on his looks. I just didn't really feel his face resembled Gackt any more than any of Nomura's other designs do :monster:

lolololol, yeah, I seem to remember reading somewhere that Nomura designed Squall based on Gackt too, although not officially like in CC =P
So, probably a given at this point that Nomura has a huge man-crush on Gackt.

I never gave that Squall-was-based-on-Gackt thing any real weight since Nomura said he was based off River Phoenix's looks, and that was pretty obvious -- especially with the naming scheme of Squall's family (Squall, Laguna, Raine) and the similar scheme among some of Phoenix's family (River, Rain, Summer).

I don't know. Gackt's face and haircuts seems to sneak up in Nomura's work quite frequently lolololol.

Never heard the Squall/River Phoenix thing!! That makes perfect sense now, though. Both the appearance AND the "brooding-heartthrob" persona are similar to roles River was doing towards the end of his life. It's funny where they take inspiration from sometimes, like Kojima originaly basing Solid Snake on Kyle Reese from Terminator...

On the Genesis issue, while a lot of those legal things seem totally logical, it still seems to me that if SE WANTS to include Genesis, they'd be able to get their way one way or the other. What I hope is that they don't. I understand why side stories NEED expansions, characters that weren't important before to suddenly become important, etc, but in the main story....it's just not necessary.
