I would find it horrific and offensive if you got laughed at for sincerely speaking your mind. That said, I personally don't have any problem with that emote.

You're being honest, where's the problem on that? Personally, I don't find it particularily offensive, I mean... What's the problem with this ---> :pinkhandmon:?

And it's being used only for the lulz, as far as I can see. Yes, maybe it is kinda wrong but unless I'm missing something, it's a pretty tame thing :P.

No, I don't see why an icon like that should offend anyone. And its not to a SPECIFIC PERSON. Its a general comment. :monster:

so then

blackface should not offend black people because it's not toward a specific person?

I didn't said it for you if that's what you mean. I stumbled across different people saying stuff about the icon. That's it.

TBH I didn't even thought you were actually talking seriously when you wrote that.

TBH I agree with Aki. I wouldn't mind so much if it was pink, because we have other types of colored monsters within our gallery; it's the fact that it also has a limp wrist. What's the point of having that combination on the icon other than to make fun of a gay stereotype that some people find hurtful? I understand that some of you are not being homophobic, but the icon is still offensive and annoying to look at.

you sort of

quoted my comment and then said it shouldn't be taken as offensive

i mean if you weren't meaning that for me, why even quote me?

Hey guys, we should prioritize on the close mouth monster smiley or the forever alone monster smiley. This pink....Abomination, is not worthy of my use and it doesn't have a punch line like Elmo, Oscar and the closed mouth monster.

As for the argument I'm seeing: Elsie, I like your presence and I enjoy your company and I know you didnt mean to offend my homegirl but I would appreciate it if you don't just go implying ' I dont give a fuck ' so easily to someone who was seriously requesting it to be taken down, she can be quite sensitive to LGBT issues.

And in a few years we'll be able to say the same for the pink hand mon. I see not the relevance in how long its been in there.

:bmonster: So this is ok, but :pinkhandmon: is not?

Exactly. And people throwing around the word "nigger" etc is not offensive, but sassygaycookiemonster is? This logic I do not understand. I get that people are sensitive towards certain issues, however if one issue is to be removed than the rest of them should be removed too. Tbh, I don't let things like this bother me because I know it wasn't made to be insulting or offensive or to harm anyone. If people take it that way, that's a shame, but they shouldn't be ignore. Remove that icon, but then also remove all racial/homophobic/etc slurs from TLS as well. Otherwise it's pointless.

The afro monster's been in our stable for years.

This also makes no sense. Who cares if it's been around for years or a day? Anything can be seen as offensive.

As much as I appreciate the views opposing this emoticon, there are far worse things out there in the world to be offended about. No-one here intended this emoticon to be offensive, and I don't see it going further out from this forum clique. I do agree it doesn't quite have the same punch of the original bunch we already have, but in the context people are using it it's not really a malicious jest towards homosexuality and I don't see it doing any significant harm compared to the sort of things happening out there outside our forums.

not worthy of my use

I know you're being earnest about the issue but this phrase makes your opinion sound a tiny bit up there on the high horse. :monster:

So because he's pink and has a limp wrist you automatically assume he's gay?

Now who's stereotyping? :awesome:

No, it's not fucking okay. But guess what? When you mention these things, people don't listen and brush it off. You know, like almost everyone has done here.

And the use of a slur by a particular group that finds it offensive - in this case, I am specifically referring to my own use of the dreaded "n-word" - is typically a form of disempowerment. Try to take the bite out of it so that when you hear it shouted at you in a not friendly way (hi this happens to me daily), it doesn't sting so much.

Yeah, it's goddamm fucking offensive, and you have NO RIGHT to tell anyone how anyone else feels about something or whether it's offensive or not. Remember thar tls secret about there not being more openly gay males on the forum? With shit like this, is it really surprising?

But people don't say anything because they dont want to be laughed at for their opinion, or cause trouble, or whatever. Just because they don't speak out against it doesn't mean they're okay with it.

ooooo man I do not need to get this worked up this early in the workday

Sorry I'm late folks, lunch time and workshift.

Yeah I know that, but you'll come to the reason what's the reason for posting right at the bottom.

Satsu, I always sound high as a horse without the need to be on a high horse, :monster: so that's just me.

As for afro, yes I know its offensive, but even if I sound hypocritical and biased, always know that I will be reminded to not abuse or say any highly offensive stuff regarding it and will happily back down, luckily I dont tend to use the offensive icon monsters that much and stick to the regular monster.

I'm just sticking up for my two homegirls and preventing them from escalating the situation. Feel free to call me out at any time of the day, I'll be here from 9 to 11

I will be removing both those smilies when I have access to a proper computer, assuming no one beats me to it. No emoticon is worth pissing people off this much, and their reasons for being offended are pretty legit.
