I know how you feel on this; I've been a fan of Star Wars for years. I'm excited but a little afraid at the same time. It could really go either way right now, but I'm going to withhold judgment until I see it.

By the way, Hamill, Fisher, Ford, and Williams have all indicated that they'd be willing to return, and apparently there are plans to bring them back. I wouldn't be surprised if other cast members end up returning for this as well.

At this rate, it is quite possible that this may end up being actually good.

I hope they establish a continuity that isn't compatible with the existing Expanded Universe. Due to Lucas's absence, the world of SW geekdom could see arguments over which Expanded Universe is more authentic.

Disney owns both franchises. However since Star Wars takes place "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away," and The Avengers does not, that was probably a joke.

Everything gets crossed over with everything else, in fanfic if not officially. What reason was there to have Wolverine fighting Ryu from Street Fighter? Aside from "because it'd be awesome" there really isn't one. But sometimes awesome is all you need.

Not to sound ageist, but John Williams is 81 now. If he were to compose the next films n' what not, I think he should at least have some sort of apprentice with him, to try n' teach them the "look and feel" of the star wars music from the guy responsible himself. I'm sure someone could probably do this by themselves though.

It would make sense to have Giacchino and Williams co-compose if Williams isn't in good enough health to do the entire score. Giacchino is more than capable of doing a good enough job on his own (especially since he's clearly influenced by Williams as it is) but it still wouldn't feel entirely right not to have Williams involved at all.

It would have been interesting if someone else, like John Ottman took on composition duties. I really liked what he did with Superman and X-Men. But im sure John Williams will keep things fresh for the new trilogy.

Honestly, if someone has to replace Williams I hope it's Giacchino. He worked absolute miracles for the Star Trek revival and his work on Lost is still among my top three television soundtracks of all time (Murray Gold's work on Doctor Who and Richard Gibbs and Bear McCreary's work on Battlestar Galactica being the other two). He works with Abrams regularly too, so it's unlikely he'd turn the job down.

They could always hire Jesse Harlin and some of the in-house LucasArts guys

chances are they'll go with John Williams for the publicity and then whatshisface Kevin Kiner who scores for The Clone Wars atm?

I guess it'll probably come down to the executives plus lol George Lucas

If Williams doesn't score it, I'd say Giacchino is by far the likeliest candidate to replace him. He's scored every single one of Abrams' films to date (unless you count films Abrams produced, in which case one, Morning Glory, was not a Giacchino score).
