Star Wars: Episode 7, 8... and BEYOND!

I say distance they need to distance themselves from the original six. "Now the circle is complete." That shouldn't be just a good Vader quote. I think that leaving the original six alone and starting a fresh trilogy either in the Old Republic or the Legacy era of the EU would be prime movie material. However in respect to the OR Era, DO NOT DO REVAN FOR GOD'S SAKE! He's an overabused and overrated character.

I will FIGHT YOU because I really enjoyed Revan

Buuuuuuuuuuuuut at the same time, I do think Revan would be a difficult character to do right. Thematically he's a great alternative take on the classic redemption story present in the OT, but there's hours and hours of story that have to be condensed in order to make a proper impact. Of course, in the context of a movie trilogy it's entirely feasible to run the KoTOR story in 3 movies but the original game didn't exactly have fantastic set pieces like the films did, basically moving from "city world" to "desert world" to "water world" to ... "space world". I dunno.

Also, as far as characters go, Revan is pretty central to the Old Republic era, at least in the years leading up to and past the Civil War timeline.

psssst Revan is awesome, one of the best characters from Bioware. That being said these fuckers better not touch the Old Republic era or Revan.

Eh, Revan's a cool character, in part because you get to decide what sort of chracter he is. But his fans tend to blow both him and his abilities way out of proportion. Yeah, the dudes really powerful, but he's not gonna be throwing down with the likes of Yoda or Palpatine. Not succesfully anyway.

Don't forget Mace Motherfucking Windu, who proved he was moar powerful than both Yoda and Palpatine in Ep 3 because he managed to outfight Palpatine when Yoda didn't. Considering he's played by Samuel L. motherfucking Jackson, this is no surprise to me.

Its true Mace is very powerful, and beyond Revan's abilities. But he is not more powerful than Yoda and Palpatine. His ability of Vapaad, which allowed him to take in Palpatine's power and use it against him, was what let him win against Palpatine, and even then its strongly implied in the novel that Palpatine was feigning weakness as part of his deception to turn Anakin to the darkside.

The novel outright states that the best Mace could achieve in lightsaber combat was a draw before Anakin arrived, and Palpatine didn't even bother with force powers until he was disarmed. The novel further stated that the power of Palpatine's lightning was beyond the capabilities of Mace's vapaad, which is why he was trying to get Anakin to intervene. He knew that if this continued long enough Palpatin'es lightning would overpower him.

Mace is undeniably a huge badass, and one of the most powerful jedi in Star Wars, but he's still second to Yoda in the grand scheme of things.

Also, in terms of the Force Yoda was pretty much the most powerful
That dude made Palpatine's lightning his bitch and he didn't have to stray close to the dark side to do it

OT, the appeal of Revan isn't really his power as much as it is his general tactical foresight imo, much more akin to the thinking man's Sith Lord while Malak was the muscle within the Rule of Two. And like I mentioned before, he's an alternative take on the redemption themes of the films

At least, he's much better in general than Galen Marek. It was a shame LucasArts turned that guy into a fucking Gary Stu.

Eh, Yoda wasn't really any stronger than Palpatine. The novel suggests that it cost Yoda a LOT in order to stop it the way he did, though I'd perssonaly say the two are in the same tier of power with Palpatine being slightly more powerful. Only slightly though.

I just loved the look on Palpatine's face during the duel when his lightning blast turned back on him, though

It was a hilarious moment

Oh absolutely. Its clear Palpatine underestimated Yoda badly, and his realisation of that fact is one of the best moments in that film.

Remember the partwhen Yoda just got up and knocked Palps across the room after tanking the lightning? The look on Palps face just screamed "Oh, I'm fucked aren't I?"

Both Star Trek and Star Wars being done by one guy huh? You know what that means...

Double Growth
The ship combat in the Star Trek movie had a lot of Star Warsiness to it (yes it's a word!) so I'm sure it'll work here. I just hope he can manage to make them feel distinct.

Think of all the Khan/Darth Vader and/or Luke Skywalker/Captain Kirk slash that could result from this (though I would not be surprised if that already exists).

...I have no idea why that was the first idea to enter my head.

It's funny because earlier he said he wouldn't do it.

Then again, earlier George Lucas said there will be no third trilogy and no one else is gonna do it either.

So in other words, they are all lying scumbags. :wackymonster:

I am optimistic with Abrams on board however.
