She talks a lot and repeats herself a lot, but there's nothing spoileific. Just her babbling about being Ahsoka. :monster:

I'm trying to determine if I should squeeze this in tonight or if I should do the FFXV event tonight then try to find the finale online tomorrow. Hm. Star Wars seems vastly more important than FF right now. Adulting...how to....hmmm.... :hohum:

Do it tonight, fgj!! I know I'll be a mess of a clusterfuck of emotions in about 5-6 hours when I see it, which means that I'll be reblogging every single awesome & heart-wrenching thing that I can find on tumblr while simultaneously making a massive tl;dr post here.

Yes. That is a real thing. I'll be watching it live and geeking about it here, since I'm typically the sorta person who just watches things on my own, and geeks about them together after. ^^;

Well you said KC gets their shows up pretty fast. I was looking at their upload dates and it looks like they usually have them up on the same day that they air.

Did you already watch it!???

*sigh* It's still not up on Kiss Cartoon or Toonova or anywhere else. :(

I won't read any of your comments (assuming you'll rush over here and gush about it  ) until I watch it.

I just saw it. Holy mother of god. That was PHENOMENAL, and the "truth in Legends" comment finally came full circle.

Rebels is a reinterpretation of The Force Unleashed:
• Kanan is Rahm Kota
• Ezra is Galen Marek

More things when I can collect my thoughts.

Ok, so now that I've had some time to digest everything and sleep…

This has VERY clearly set up a Canon version of events from The Force Unleashed, since it faded into Legends.

• Ezra Bridger (whose last name keeps becoming a little more apparent to his role) is our version of Starkiller. Instead of starting in the Dark and moving to the Light, his path is reversed. The master attempting to keep him in the Light is Kanan, while the Master attempting to pull him to the Dark is Maul.

• Kanan Jarrus is fully in the role of Rahm Kota — the Jedi instructor with a little bit of armor, pulled back hair, and who was blinded by a character played by Sam Witwer.

• Maul is taking over Vader's role in those events. Rather than Vader making a power play against the Emperor, Maul is making a power play against both of them.

• As the story builds, we're looking at the formation of the Rebellion, and how the role that all of them play in instrumental in what's to come. This is gonna get especially true, since Season 3 is gonna start connecting into the events of Rogue One.

Beyond that, there were some more Legends references:

• We see the Jedi lightsaber from The Scourge of Malachor that was listed as being the inspiration for Kylo Ren to give his cracked-Kyber Crystal lightsaber a crosshilt.
• Vader gives a version of Kylo Ren's speech about having destroyed his former self.
• We see a Kyber Crystal fueled ancient Sith Weapon (the temple).
• Small details about The Scourge of Malachor make up a canon version of KotOR 2.

Aside from all of that, there were a TON of things that I loved/thought were really well done, even if they gutted me:

• Maul
- Sam Witwer is fucking phenomenal. Between "Old Master" Maul and fully uncloaked and ruthless Maul, HD friggin' nails every. single. line. with perfection.
- Maul's sincerity, and ability to look past his own immediately selfish urges shows him being different than a Sith, especially since he dropped having "Darth" in his name, since he's not one of the two. How he saves Ezra rather than just take the Holocron, and the way he sees Ezra as HIS apprentice was magnificent, in addition to all of his "only two" lines while navigating the Sith Temple itself (which was brilliantly designed).
- His lightsaber being a damaged Inquisitor blade was an excellent touch. I am curious if he still possesses the Dark Saber (though I've no doubt Sabine's role and the Mandalorians focus being vastly elevated for Season 3 will touch on that.
- The way he still uses the Sith codes when he's teaching Ezra, but he's not repeating them rote.
- His stand off with Ahsoka that hinted at what would've happened at the end of Clone Wars, but we never saw.
- His ruthlessness in killing the Inquisitors. Not only does it show he's VERY much not like the others, but it also does a good job of showing how powerful he is.
- Him being the number one source of cooperation between them and showing how much he is willing to work with others to achieve his own ends, since his prime has passed him by.
- Mother fucking Duel of the Fates music when he and Ahsoka crossed blades.

• Ahsoka
- How she teaches as they go through the temple, and trying to out think the Inquisitors.
- Her sharing the modified version of the first line her & Rex ever said to one another.
- That Vader scene. Holy Damn. Her revenge attack at Vader because she's not a Jedi. How in their combat scenes you can see that the both of them are intimately familiar with each others' fighting styles. That look on her face when she can hear Anakin's real voice and see his face when she cuts through the mask. The way she pushes Ezra away, and her (potentially) being left alone in the Temple.

• Ezra
- The way he's watching Kanan's back here is a picture of things to come.
- How he doesn't trust Maul completely, but also knows that there is a LOT of what Maul is telling him that's true. Seeing them work in tandem through the temple was amazing, especially needing to use anger to lift and hold all the entrance blocks.
- His hesitation to kill the Seventh Sister, and the lesson Maul teaches him from it. I have a feeling that lesson is going to linger, and might ultimately be Maul's undoing because he's the one who blinded Kanan.
- The scene he has with Vader with the, "I'm not afraid of you." —"Then you will die braver than most." was bone-chillingly perfect Vader.
- Ezra's lightsaber was destroyed by Vader, so he'll have to build a new one — one that Kanan will never see. I'm curious what colour blade it'll have since that will be an.important character milestone.

• Kanan
- I love how you can tell his experience as a Jedi was up through being a padawan, and then surviving, because all the doubts that he has that Ahsoka tries to alleviate, like Ezra will be ok because Kanan taught him, where Kanan is still haunted by the visions from the temple.
- When he puts on the mask (like padawans do to train not to rely on their sight), and uses The Force and his other senses to throw off Maul.
- C1-10P helping him walk with his little robo arms.
- Him joining Ezra to take back the Sith Holocron, because of the Rule of Two being in place.
- The Star Wars hug STILL came true. Kanan told Hera they'd see each other again… but that was literally the last time he ever saw her.

We didn't get any (confirmed) deaths (of non-Inquisitor characters), but EVERYONE was irrevocably altered by the finale in ways I really wasn't ready for. Apparently everyone is getting a different look going in to Season 3, and I cannot wait to see them all. How they managed to still be so devastating without killing a character, and push the story SO. DAMN. HARD. was something really impressive.

One month & 4 days 'til Celebration, where Filioni promised he'd be talking about some Season 3 stuff very specifically.

I WATCHED IT!!!!!!!!!!!! :reptar:

Great, I'm going to be wondering about that gardarmned owl for the next six months. :wacky:

My favorite part of the interview you posted was the idea of an alternate scene with Maul saying that Vader is who he was meant to be!

Favorite part of the episode was hearing Anakin's voice and hearing him say her name. He's in there. We all know that Ahsoka can't do anything for him (as the article you linked mentions - Luke is Vader's ultimate key to redemption because canon). But omg, feels. <3

Ultimately, I feel that having Ahsoka die (while it would have broken my heart) would have been ideal because her story took place in The Clone Wars and leading up to Rebels and I feel like it's over now. However...people in SW have been known to survive being severed in half and being burned alive; typically speaking, if you don't see their heads roll it means they're still alive.

Also touched in the article - the voice of the holocron. I didn't realize that it was the actress who played Ventress. :D I do like the idea of a female Sith Lord.

Whatever Filoni is babbling about at the end of the article including Maul/Ahsoka/Anakin and Obi-Wan: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. FFS make it a comic already!!!!!! :reptar:

I'm still reading your character breakdown! :aah:

Upon rewatching, I forgot that there was a mention that
you couldn't open the Sith Holocron without having the mentality of a Sith, and Ezra opens it at the VERY end, after he failed to protect Ahsoka & Kanan.
OAUGHDSKBE It's so mcuh easier to watch all in one go!!

^ Yes, yes!

I still can't get into Ezra's character. It's not that he's young because I'm all about TCW teenage Ahsoka. It's not that he's a boy because I like boys. I can't put my finger on it. :closedmonster: I want to like and care about Ezra because he seems to be playing a very integral role. I'm pretty sure the entire internet thinks he's going to form the Knights of Ren. I really want to be into this guy, I really do! :reptar:

I think it's that
it's because we don't get the exposure to his pain & situation in a way that allows it to grow with us the same as it did with Ahsoka. He's built with his tragedy in place, rather than us getting to see him start off and watch things get taken from him. Additionally, he sort of falls into becoming a Force user, and often times it feels like the story drives his accomplishments rather than the other way 'round.

Honestly though... it kinda works for me, because while he's the central character in terms of the overall story and who it touches, I'm ok with not feeling like he's the MAIN character for me. To me, it feels like Ezra is more of a mechanic of the story itself, and that intrigues me in where it's pushed, because of how it impacts the other characters who are around him. I enjoy him more as the effects he has on others than as a character himself, and while it seems kinda shitty saying it that way, I think that it makes his ACTIONS more important because of how they touch everyone's lives around him.

Yes, that must be it. He's sort of a "tell, don't show" scenario. Sort of like when George constantly told his audience that Anakin and Padme really were most definitely in love with each other but did an atrocious job of actually showing it. :wacky:

Somehow, I see Kanan as the main character in Rebels, at least up until now. Probably because he's been in an authoritative position with Ezra. Well...not that he has any actual control over Ezra because the kid is something of a wild card. :wacky: If it weren't for Kanan (up until this point), Ezra wouldn't even be on this journey.

You know what, fuckit, Chopper is the main character. :monster:

For me, it also really helps that Hera is my unquestionably favourite character (Maul notwithstanding), and I've read... 14 comics about Kanan's history, Sabine's got the whole history of family going back to Death Watch, Zeb's got a history of his whole people getting massacred and a life on from that, Chopper was involved in war, and Ezra's still pretty much a kid with a lightsaber just making his way through as the elements interact with him.

So much that hasn't been shown. :sadpanda:

I think I'll become more involved with Sabine if and when we are given some more episodes focused on Mandalore/Mandalorians. If this does come to fruition, I'm sure we'll see more of Maul. I have not yet read Son of Dathomir, so last time I saw the guy (aside from last night's episode) he was the ruler on Mandalore. I have skimmed through some Google images pertaining to SOD so I'm aware that Talzin dies, but I'm not totally sure what went down on Mandalore. I'll have to go roam around Wookieepedia to find out. :monster:

Hera is the absolute best crew member (after Chopper - sorry Hera ).

I think the most important issue right now is rewatching every single episode of TCW and Rebels, reading between ALL the lines and finding out whether or not any hints can be tied to Ahsoka's fate. :wacky:
