Statistic thrad

For great justice, here's some stats for TLS, :monster:.

Attached are two Google Analytics reports, one for the frontpage, one for the forums. I really should get to merging the two into one, it's kinda tricky to get the full picture when they're two different thingies. But I'll do that wicba, :monster:

The frontpage's statistics are from September 25 to now, and the forum's statistics from November 22nd to now.

General analysis, the forum's activity in terms of visitors has remained pretty stable, at around 300 visitors / day with a slight peak in the last few days, probably due to christmas holidays and whatnot. The frontpage's visitor statistics are a bit more gradual, but gradual in the positive sense of the word, i.e. going upwards. There's an odd fluctuation (in the negative sense of the word) last weekend, but that can probably be blamed on the weekend - I dunno, lol.

The differences frontpage and forums is pretty obvious from the two stats - the frontpage has more visits (almost twice as much), but less pageviews (forums have four times more pageviews than frontpage), and the frontpage has more new visitors, 33% of the visitors are new (although I dunno what google considers 'new'), compared to 12% on the forums. Finally, the average time on the site is a lot different between the two - around three and a half for the frontpage to 16 minutes on the forums.

But all that is quite logical, rly. I'd personally like the figures to even out a bit more, but eh.

I'll try and post new statistics every month and give a bit of an analysis on the data, perhaps see if a link between new articles and more visitors can be made, that kinda stuffs.

84 countries, wow.

How does it determine whether something is direct traffic, from a referring site or from a search engine?

When you click a link, the site you go to also gets to know which site you came from (the HTTP_REFERER header / variable thingy). Although it can't always be trusted (due to it coming from the user's browser), it's accurate enough to provide proper statistics. If it's not present, the user is direct traffic. If it's set, it's referring traffic. If it's set and a known search engine, such as Google's own, it's a search engine. Although I'm fairly sure Google has some additional technologies for gathering search engine statistics than just the referring URL.

Oh awesome, with our move to the new board, the forums' statistics system works as well (it previously redirected to the hosts' own stats page instead of that from SMF). Go here to see interesting stats like:

* There's almost 8000 posts made by Everyone
* On average, 2.21 new members have joined per day
* There's 1.6 times more women than men on here. The internet is officially broken now.
* The top poaster is yours truly, I'm a whore :(.
* The LTD thread and Faith are the most popular threads, both in terms of posts and views.
* Cookie Monster started moast threads
* Hitoshura spent a total of almost eight days online

Awesome. The link on the frontpage doesn't seem to work properly though (it has an extra slash), I'll goan see if I can fixx that.

I could b7 you so you could goan make money, then give it away to TLS, :monster:.

Also, no luck on getting the index link to work (it's below the boards, right underneath the 'newest poast' thingy), it's not working due to the URL rewriting thingy - it's trying to find a board named 'stats' instead of a special page. Can't be helped right now, just remove the trailing slash at the end of the URL and it'll work, or use the link in my previous poast.

Did you ever doubt the Great Old One?

Also, if anyone passes me, I'll just either b7 or edit certain values only Great Old Ones can alter, :monster:.

Holy shit, our traffic skyrocketed. We got a big surge of visitor's that last week of January.

I'm curious how our first week of February looks now.

Allright, the average is up to 360 - 460, where before the January 30 peak of 557 it was below 380, with another peak of 407-420 around January 19/20. But it's been constant at about 365 for the last 3 days, and the peak of 557 has leveled out.

Oh wow.

I guess all the new articles being posted has been drawing in more views and stuff. I'm glad cause there's still more coming :monster:

I'm glad to see we've been growing still.

Those statistics are fascinating by the way. Maybe I'm just being a nerdy accounting major, but its really cool to see all of that stuff broken down.

And I'll second that Mako, I'm really glad to see the growth, everyone's doing a great job with the site, only wish I've contributed moar :monster:

Yes, I've spent quite some time looking at stats myself, :monster:.

Speaking of, I really should get to integrating the frontpage and forum stats into one account (while keeping the differentiation between the two, because as you can see from comparing the two reports, they both generate very different types of traffic), would give it a tad more perspective.
