From what I can gather, Espers are summons. They’re having their power drained (poorly) by the Empire to create Magitek, but once they die, they become Magicite and can transfer their full power. So summons, but cooler :mon:

Haven’t used one in battle yet. Think I played this game for a bit too long today - very addicting!

Can you learn all of the magic skills from multiple Espers? Pretty sure the ghost NPC said something along those lines. If so, badass.

Interested in seeing where Terra comes into all this, since she’s apparently not quite an Esper? She currently looks like she’s in an FFIX esque trance.

Cool seeing Ramuh as an actual character. Pretty sure he was in FFIX too.

How amazing is that!?!? didnnekxhajbznsn

I had no idea until recently, but I guess Shadow leaving is rare enough that many players never see it. Normally I grind by the cabin until Sabin gets Mantra, so that shrouded POS runs off at least once per playthrough and I have to reset. But apparently if he makes it to the train then he'll stay until the waterfall.

I restart if he ever leaves mid-battle. Fuck him. I'm extracting every gil I paid for his services.

Yeah on replays I save after every world map battle. If he leaves I reset. My first playthrough though, I was shook to my core when he bailed after a world map battle.

I basically played the games in the same order as Mikey, (although I think I finished FFVIII and still love it to this day). The concept of optional characters in FF wasn’t unheard of for me, but the sheer “open worldness” of your character roster in this game, especially when *spoiler spoiler spoiler* and the prospect of multiple endings based on who sticks around…? :headbang:

Mikey, I hope you treat Celes well, she’s my favourite character in the group. Here’s some fanart of her that I keep on my wall.

The game automatically scales Sabin's Level when he joins to be [Party Average Level] [+1], and Blitzes are learned based on what level Sabin is at (as you know). So I tend to grind outside South Figaro before getting Sabin, so that he starts with Fire Dance. Grinding until he has Mantra could be an option too, but it'd take a while.

It also gives Locke time to steal a Mythril Claw or two from the Rhinotaurs outside South Figaro. They appear more often in the forest, and the forest ticks down the random encounter ... well, counter, faster than walking on the grass.

I loved how they imitated speech, and the music in general.
I loved battling Ultros again and becoming a part of the performance.
I loved Setzer snatching Celes away (just a lotta love, really) and the reveal that the COIN ONLY HAD ONE SIDE. AHHH. They really went and used one remarkable sequence to elevate another remarkable sequence that already happened. Square, you crazy.

Looking forward to the second act. This game rules :excited:
