Though I did see 'I don't want to be dragged into an LT debate like Nomura' as an explanation for the 'my views on love and marriage' thing. If you didn't want to be dragged into it, maybe you shouldn't be writing all these things in the first place

I see things like this (relating to emotions or mental functions like memory) as applying the second definition, of feelings being unclear or not concretely defined (&#24515;&#12420;&#24847;&#35672;&#12364;&#12412;&#12435;&#12420;&#12426;&#12375;&#12390;&#12356;&#12427;&#12373;&#12414;&#12290;&#12363;&#12377;&#12363;&#12290 It even uses 'feelings of love' as an example for this in the dictionary (&#20164;&#12363;&#12394;&#24651;&#24515;, which I think was what they used for Elena's feelings towards Tseng as well).

I've had it liked to &#28129;&#12356;&#24651;&#24515; before, which is more of a 'light' love. Like the first stages of love before it develops into something more serious.

The trouble I see with 'secret' now (meaning it just came into my head while writing this so isn't too thought out) is that &#12411;&#12398;&#12363; still refers to it being perceived, if only very slightly. How would 'secret(ly)' work if no one was aware of Cloud's feelings? Even if something is 'dim', it's still being noticed by someone. I woudl think 'secretly' would mean no one knew about it, which doesn't seem to be the case with &#12411;&#12398;&#12363; used for perception.

Part of the reason, by the way, that I've also felt the "unnoticed" meaning fit the context is because of these lines from Cloud's subconscious:

"......a sealed up secret...... wish......"
"Tender memories...... no one can ever know........."

But that could be a coincidence.

Really, though, I'm starting to think it doesn't really make a big difference in the grand scheme of things whether the "unnoticed" or "light love" understanding is the better fit.

"Cloud secretly fell in love with Tifa" vs. "Cloud fell in love with Tifa in a sense that could be described as the early stages of being in love" (which is sort of a "duh" thing anyway considering they weren't in an established, mutual romantic relationship anyway at that time) still requires that "Cloud fell in love with Tifa."

In either case, it doesn't come out to be the "Cloud dimly/stupidly/mistakenly fell in love with Tifa" meaning that some insist it must.

None of the other exit 'zones' reference people. The closest would be the moon rather abstractly referencing Golbez rather than Cecil's return to the Blue Planet, but even then.

Actually, I'd have to say Squall's exit is completely a reference to Rinoa on every level -- from the feather to the flower field. Of course, Squall is the only character whose sole motivation for, well, everything, is another person.

Don't forget the detail that the point values were arbitrarily chosen and "Well, wouldya look at that?" came out with a higher total for Aerith.

I find it great how snippets of Cloud and Aerith conversation like 'Aerith? You safe?' count as one point, whereas entire scenes with Cloud and Tifa count as one point. Moreover, some people are so dizzily addicted to their ship that they somehow get a CloudxAerith meaning from the Highwind scene even though she's never mentioned.

Good times! No one will ever forget that the 'koi' fish = Aerith. Though I have to say that my favorite argument from the present time (well, 2009 it was) is that Aerith changed her ribbon at the end of Crisis Core. That gets me every time.... gets me into a fit of laughter, that is.

Though, the wars about the fucking colors were quite hilarious too. Aerith wearing red means it's pink, because in Japan Red = Pink. But when Vincent wears red it's a separate color. And Tifa wears MAHOGONY, not red. This shit is important!

Or was it, Aerith wearing pink means it's red? THE COLORS DUKE, THE COLORS

I don't remember any arguments about Clerith being present during the Highwind scene, besides that Cloud would be too torn up about her death to do anything with Tifa. xD

I thought Vincent was kind of affectionate towards her, and supportive of her bond with Cloud. Saying stuff like 'You found him' and 'overwhelming love' but during the Cloud going crazy and handing the black materia to Sephiroth on the ceiling scene, he's the only character to physically interact with Tifa during her breakdown, to my knowledge. Its kinda hard to decipher but I took it he was trying to comfort her.

Given the context of the whole thing, I still think "secretly" is probably best overall, but I'm interested in what you'd go with.
