He's talking about after Cloud escorts Aerith home. She has him stay in the other room and he tries to leave possibly many times depending on how much you suck at getting him to sneak down the stairs (I remember once for shits and giggles I had him sneak into Aerith's room)

That was before the bombing mission. And even at that point it was stated (somewhere) that it was Tifa's intervention made him stay.

Barret shortchanges him after the bombing of reactor one. For the bombing of reactor five Cloud negotiates a new price ("That money's for Marlene's schoolin'!") and Tifa talks Barret into accepting the deal.

I'm not seriously arguing that it's money alone that makes Cloud head back to 7th Heaven. All of us who truly understand this game and the LTD know what's really drawing him there.
