Hello! Just have a few monkeyshines issues that were bothering me (sorry if they've already been addressed):
- While I agree Cloud was never in love with Aerith, did you guys really not think he had any romantic interest in her at all? A lot of their interactions seemed distinctly flirtatious to me. Of course, we'll never know for sure which actions he was responsible for and which were Zack's/various other personas', but we can't rule out the possibility that some were indeed his, and thus representative of his true feelings. After all, if he could genuinely feel affection, concern, grief, etc for Aerith (and the other party members) during disc 1 - feelings that carried over even AFTER he regained his true self - I don't think it's impossible for him to have felt (slight) attraction or romantic interest for her as well. Not that it really does much for the C/A-is-canon cause...
I always felt this, but like others have said because Cloud's flirting is very much in the player's hands on disc 1 it only means that for some people Cloud and Aerith were interested in each other, for others Cloud and Tifa were interested in each other and then there was even Barrett and Yuffie. But of course in the end Cloud and Tifa turn out to be interested in each other as programmed into the game so it doesn't further C/A much anyway.
- Also, in regards to Cloud and Tifa sharing a bed/room: I agree that it's a logical explanation for Cloud's lack of reaction to Tifa's presence at his bedside, but there's one line that keeps me from adopting it as the right one:
Does she just mean his office? But why wouldn't she just say "office"? Or is this just a problem of translation (eg. the original Japanese just said "drink in room" or something like that without saying whose room it was?)
I never thought that they shared a bed, a room...possibly but not a bed. I've read CoT twice now and I never got that impression. Partly for the quote you've highlighted he seems to have his own separate room. It's probably the office because it has his bed in it.
I assumed Cloud wasn't surprised with her presence because he had the door open or something so she could of wonder in whenever she likes. If he does sleep in the office then he probably wouldn't be suprised if she was in there herself sorting out stuff for the bar.
But then again didn't he have a "dubious"/"perplexed" face when he woke up? Maybe that was to her being in his room. (Though I'm sure the "Do you love me?" question would of been the first thing to freak him out).
It's a mistranslation actually. If I remember correctly the original doesn't specify which room. It literally says, "Go drink in the room." Or something like that.
It makes no sense if she's referring to a room they share though because she says the line when she's pissed off with him. She wouldn't send him to
their room if she wants to get away from him.
Case of Tifa said:
Of course, there was no answer. I only heard the sound of him sleeping. I wondered if the fact that he was sleeping here meant that he was part of the family.
The highlighted line is for me the conformation that they are sharing a bed. It is the only thing that makes sense. Replace "here" with anywhere else but her bed and it makes no sense whatsoever. I even asked if it was a translation issue. It isn't.
I always assumed 'here' meant 7th Heaven as a few sentences before it's talking about living in the same house.
Then again there is never any mention of her getting up, walking into another room or crouching next to Cloud's own bed so it makes you wonder because she seems to go from a little thought on the family's situation to suddenly "After making certain that Cloud was asleep, she spoke to him." Why wasn't movement mentioned? Probably because she didn't move at all, she was right next to him. Hmmmm.
