=( I was looking forward to this but now I am severly disspointed.

This always happens, when you hear of a decent director/writer/producer doing a decent story adaptation it usually falls apart and doesn't go the way it should.

Hopefully Jackson will pick it up, I don't understand why he hasn't been on it from the start. He done such a good job with his team of visualisers, scripters and whatnot on LOTR I thought it would just roll out that way.

I guess the world of cinema is a more complicated thing than it should be.

I assume Jackson didn't leap into the chance to direct The Hobbit because of how stressful making the original LOTR was. Looking at the Behind the Scenes featuerettes for all 3 films really give you the impression that the production of that movie was nothing short of barely controlled chaos.

Well, it was a children's book of sorts, a fairytale, as that's what he was writing before that and those. So I guess that makes sense. But to a kid, it'd be epic and just. It's got epic heroes, epic journeys, epic wizzards, epic dwarves, and a fucking dragon.

From what I remembered of commentary and special features on one of the DVDs, they worked a lot with... fooling the eye? Like, they'd make a table really long, sit Bilbo down at one end and Gandalf on the other and angle the camera a certain way or something to make it seem like it the table was short and Bilbo was tiny.

Actors guilds including SAG, AFTRA and several international unions have issued an alert against the big-budget adaptation of "The Hobbit," stating that their members "are advised not to accept work on this non-union production." The guilds say the producers of the MGM/New Line fantasy blockbuster, to be directed by Peter Jackson, have rebuffed organizing efforts by the New Zealand unit of an Australian actors union.

At this point I just say fuck it. Put it on the shelf, come back to it in 10-15 years. We're reaching Don Quixote levels of fucking the production over here.
