Not as resource efficiently as possible; just economical with their time.

I could easily be wrong, but I doubt Nomura, Kitase, Hamaguchi or Toriyama are resigned to this project being the swan song of their careers. Yes, they care about doing it well, but that doesn't necessarily mean devoting costly development time to letting the player walk around in extensive locations that won't matter for another eight years.

Also, what Shad said. :awesome:
Whether we like it or not, Square aren't the sorts to cut corners lol. Mr. "the gravel isn't detailed enough" Nomura isn't going to skim over the details, that's just not how he is.

Thankfully they pulled off the bloated direction way better in Remake than Hobbit did.

We'll see. The Hobbit movies started out strong too.

Where's my Seventh Heaven basement and Honey Bee Inn hot tub? =P

I think people tend to get so caught up in the possibilities that they start to forget what the point of this game even is. Sure they could shave off a lot of the game if they wanted, but why would they? They're making this for fans, they already said to expect familiar locations and moments. Why are we suddenly thinking they'd tell the story as resource efficiently as possible? Just write up a plot summery on a napkin at that point.

From What I've seen, it's because of the ending of remake. People think things are going to drastically change, so to them, possibilities are endless. Not that there is anything wrong with that way of thinking, but it just contradicts the statements made by the developers.

The basement is in the lost Tifa chapter lol (fingers crossed for Yuffie DLC to have it.) Hot tub was cut for ethical concerns.

Mako's response was better, but I think these fall under the "Unless you really wanted to see the inside of Johnny's house" criteria I had stated earlier.
I also really don't think they'll care if this thing takes beyond 2030 to finish it. Where is there any evidence of that in their past behavior? lol
Didn't one of them mention something like being okay with making FF7 for the rest of their lives? Or did I make that up?

The thing is that the actual work itself (P1) suggests the exact opposite of what that one developer said in that interview. They hit us over the head with 'terrifying freedom', how 'that which lies ahead does not yet exist', a huge shock of a twist with you know who coming back, and the very last words in big letters across the screen being 'the unknown journey will continue'. It's hard for it to be any more blatant. I don't blame people thinking there will be big changes at all.

I did notice the earlier post referring to two different places as Lower Junon :monster:

"Under Junon" being an actual place name doesn't make much sense in English, and Lower/Upper Junon was always just a horrid error in localisation for a multi-tiered city. I wouldn't be surprised if they renamed them all.

The two halves of Junon having different names never felt important. If they don't go with "North Junon" and "South Junon" I expect they'll just call them "Junon - North" and "Junon - South" for menu purposes.

What is this about localization errors in Junon?

*you should see me and Cae's list of these that effect lore, worldbuilding or geography in some way*

The section of the city to the left of the cannon is "L-Junon" in Japanese, but got localized (in both the original game and CC) as "Lower Junon." The section to the right of the cannon is "R-Junon," but got localized as "Upper Junon."

The small town below the airport is "Under Junon" (as a proper name with an uppercase "U") in both Japanese and the English localization.

Ah, yeah I had no idea what you guys were talking about. I don't think I look at location names in the menu screen very often, lol.

But yes my general impression lines up with Ody's.

Under Junon is never referred to by anyone in the game and is only seen in the menu, so in the English version it could easily be seen as not the place's name but just "the place beneath Junon". It's clear in the Japanese version that it is its name though, because it uses katakana for "Under". The Turks novel removes all doubt that it is the town's name in English. Maybe the town was originally called Junon, or maybe the town had a name but everyone forgot after they built Junon ten years ago or whatever. :3

The south side with the airport is called "Upper Junon" (and is also called "Aljunon" on one screen), and the north side with the harbour is called Lower Junon. But both sides are multi-layered. You can see this easily by running from one side to the other. Up the elevators by Junon Branch you can see the text "SRJ-L" and "SRJ-R" on the walls for the two sides.

Edit: For bonus confusion, BradyGames uses all the names in all the wrong places. Junon Harbor is not used to refer to the harbour but to "Under Junon", "Lower Junon" is used to refer to both Lower and Upper Junon, and "Upper Junon" is used for Junon Branch. Even Versus manages to fuck it up despite being mostly written from the Japanese game, calling Under Junon "Lower Junon", and both sides of Junon as "Upper Junon" and "Al-Junon" (although distinguishes with "(East Side)" [upper] and "(West Side)" [lower])

Yep, the katakana used in Japanese here is アルジュノン (that アル bit being a-ru/a-lu) for "R-Junon" while the side to the left of the cannon is エルジュノン (エル being e-ru/e-lu) for "L-Junon."

Good times. :monster:

I hope the remake localization calls Under Junon "Lower Junon." :awesome:

Eh?
But did any of those theories include
Dementors showing up and Zack being alive....

Some do, but as someone who considers Zack being around and changing fates a likely scenario, I still think its going to generally follow the plot of OG, while accomodating the changes rater than the story itself changing.

Some people are talking about production burden and the amount of content. While it might be stating the obvious, towns and city areas are more resource intensive to produce than outdoor areas... generally. It can be by quite some margin. So if we are considering the amount of time it takes to create locations, I'd be taking that into account.

Yeah, I doubt the major locations are going to be cut, since as others said the multi-part project was chosen because SE didn't want to cut content from the Remake. And not only that in addition to saying that the Remake isn't going to be drastically different from the OG structure/plot, they have even expressed interest in adding *new* locations from the Compilation.Screen Shot 2021-03-16 at 1.52.24 PM.png

Anyways, presuming that there will be 4 parts total, and that Part 2 will follow Part 1's lead of having four major "open"/sidequest chapters/locations, I think that after Nibelheim flashback being the opening chapter or two acting as the "introductory" content (and not being told in parts/fragmented), I could see Kalm plus the Chocobo Farm (I imagine establishing how Chocobo riding will work will be something they want to introduce to the players relatively early in the game) acting like Chapter 3 did in part 1 and be the first sidequest area. Then Junon (upper/lower/under all of it) being the second sidequest heavy chapter/area (equivalent to Chapter 8 in part 1), and Gold Saucer/Corel Prison (and maybe North Corel depending on how the geography is finally fixed) being the third sidequest area/chapter and could fulfill a similar role of being a flashy/gltizy area (like Chapter 9 was in part 1). Then finally Cosmo Canyon could be the fourth sidequest chapter/area (like Chapter 14 was in part 1), and Nibelheim/Shinra Mansion/maybe Mt. Nibel being the climax/finale areas/chapters.
