@tiff, sorry to hear that. Driving sucks; driving long stretches sucks even more. In fact driving in general could be added to the long list of things that piss you off. I don't like it at the best of times, but other people make it so much worse. Ugh.

Why is everyone so adverse to confrontation. It's one of the most natural parts of life, it's how problems are solved after all.

If you and your friends can't get into an argument about something and not continue to be friends afterward, then I find it hard to believe that you were ever really friends to begin with.

Well, what the argument is about is a huge part of it I suppose. I mean I will never forgive my brother(not the good one) for some of the things he's done. But still. If it's nothing too severe it shouldn't be a big deal.

Avoiding fights and shit just isn't a very effective way to live your life. 9 times out of 10 people who avoid all sorts of confrontation tend to have a lot more problems than they would if they just confronted them.

This is because the majority of supervisor/management types feel that they have to do crap like this to justify their position. They like to 'implement' and 'spearhead' and 'brainstorm' and come up with a load of crappy acronyms and schemes so that they can say to their bosses: "Look what I did! Are you proud?! Please don't sack me."

I went downstairs to make lunch and my Grandma tells me that the dishwasher is full so not to put my used dishes in there. Okay, that's fine. I take my food upstairs to eat. When I finish I go back downstairs and she's unloading the dish washer.

Sounds pretty normal... right?

All of a sudden she starts ranting to me about how I could have unloaded all of the dishes and how she's tired of me having to be asked to do simple chores, and that I'm lazy and blah blah blah. I tried telling her I intended to unload the dishes when I was done eating (which IS what I was going to do) but she wouldn't hear of it. She was like "Sure, you say that NOW but do you ever DO anything?"

I hate that too, especially when parents don't realise that you aren't a little slave and you have your own life to work chores around. I get when you're a little kid that you stop playing and do the dishes. As an adult though, you know what, I'm in the middle of a conversation I'll do that a bit later. It's like they don't understand that just because you're in your room doesn't mean you aren't doing anything.

• Getting charged for someone else's mistake. You can either spend an extra ten minutes trying to get the matter resolved or pay extra. Either way is an annoyance. They should be paying you for wasting your time.
• Talking ads on web pages. Whoever invented them needs to die in a fire. Now. And take all their fucking ads with them.
• Coworkers are somewhat more competent now than they were previously, but I'm still coming across shit like books that were clearly in boxes that weren't received (which means they weren't added to our on hand count, which means that when people ask for them our system will think they aren't even in the store; I came across about six examples of this today alone). There's also a strict procedure for the way the cards marking book categories are supposed to be put away and I don't think one of my coworkers quite grasps it yet. I'm trying to be patient, but it's not always easy.
• The procedure for titles that will be put on store lists in the future has changed; most of them are being shelved in backlist for the time being. In some ways this makes sense, since it makes it easier for people to find them, but it completely fucks with the spacing in existing sections. Manga, for example, is an unnavigable disaster, and you'd have no idea that one of the publishers was going out of business from looking at it because it's almost completely stuffed to overflowing.
• Certain titles seem to go on and come off store lists so often that even people working in the store clearly don't know which ones are which. It's even worse when some of an author's works are put on a store list but not others. I've lost track of which Lee Child novels are supposed to be shelved in fiction and which ones are supposed to be in displays, and apparently so have other people working in the store because I came across about seven copies of a title that according to the scanner is supposed to be in a store display. This will wreak havoc on customers trying to find them, and since he is by far one of the fastest selling authors in backlist, that's probably going to cut into profits. I've also given up trying to figure out whether The Alchemist is supposed to be in a special display or not. They seem to change it every two weeks.

Today's issue of Gotham City Sirens pissed me off too, after it completely undid all of the character development Harley has gone through in the last 5 years. Yippie.

Yeah, I'm getting the feeling that they're winding down that book for the company-wide reboot later this year. They seem to have been getting ready to split the party (NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY) for the last few months or so. (Not to mention the entirely random "Flames of Gotham" or whatever it was tie-in.)

But yeah, Harley going from

OT: my pillow has gone to wherever good pillows go to when they die. As a result, I haven't slept right the past two nights, which means right now I'm feeling tired and somewhat melancholy.

Also, finding out the reason why kids graduate from schools with such low levels of literacy and numeracy these days; Blair saw fit to lower the pass mark for the teacher's employment test to about a C grade at GCSEs. Whut.

WHO ON EARTH EVER THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO LEAVE YOUR GARBAGE UNDERNEATH THE SEATS AT MOVIE THEATRES.

I mean it's annoying enough that you leave it on the floor. When you're on the move trying to clean 19 theatres twice each on a shift, the constant bending over can get really exhausting. BUT WHEN PEOPLE LEAVE SHIT UNDER THE SEATS IT JUST MAKES THINGS TEN TIMES WORSE.
