I thought my new turntable's rips sounded a lot crappier than my old one's. It turns out there was a good reason for this - the damn driver for it was preventing me from getting more than 48 kHz out of it. I've gone back to my old setup, but it means I'm going to have to re-rip basically every rip I've made in the last year. This will be a long and tedious process. Also it appears that my computer's sound card doesn't even get more than 16-bit sound, and it seems pointless to replace it at this point since (1) it's on the damn motherboard and (2) I'm probably replacing the whole computer fairly soon. On the other hand I'm not even going to bother replacing my iPod stuff, since it's all 44.1 kHz and 16-bit anyway. So that's one bit of hassle I don't need to bother with. Also, an added bonus of the old/new setup is that I can use exactly the same process to rip cassettes. Which I've been wanting to do for awhile.
