^^Oh, I totally agree with you.

That doesn't stop sex appeal from working on the majority of people who don't think it though which are usually the people advertizing is supposed to entice in the first place. People who think about why they decided to watch/buy things are going to stop that behavior whenever they want to which isn't at all what advertisers want.

Well, annoying ads can cause people to resent the products and avoid buying it. If I'm going to watch an ad and enjoy it, it's got to be entertaining. A lot of people really liked the sham-wow guy, for example. They have to focus on making the ad viewed as something other than an inconvenience and sex appeal just won't cut it.

We bought those shammies because of him. They're actually quite useful.

The ads I really hate are the one with "stupid dad". Dad constantly does goofy stuff and screws up and mum/wife silently fixes it for him, with a wry look at the camera.

The sham-wow guy did a good job of showing why stuff was useful and worth buying, all with enthusiasm that was quite enjoyable.

I hate those too. When I see fanfiction use the trope, it makes me feel like people have mistaken it for fact. Do you have any idea how many fics I've found where the whole point was how a male character is incapable of making so much as toast or a bowl of noodles without setting something on fire? And then the female character has to help fix things because of course only a woman knows how to work the kitchen. And this where you see that stereotypes that negatively impact a particular gender often trace back to a common point of prejudice. The especially absurd aspect of the cooking example is that as a profession, most cooks are male and women are assumed to be assistants or waitresses.
