I think I'm listening to my country die right about now.

But no actually, I recently discovered the magic of "Alvin and the Chipmunks at 16 speed" and I can't stop listening to it. Send help.
Like, fuck, WHY IS IT SO GOOD?

O dam, that's good. It sounds very gamey.

The comments tho :wacky:
"This sounds like how Cleveland Ohio feels"
"this is the soundtrack to carbon monoxide poisoning"
"If Hell was a stripclub, this would be the music playing there while the demon strippers worked the pole."
"This is vaporwave for people who do heroin"

I have no idea why, but this song has always reminded me of my dog. Like as the soundtrack to his zoomies or other mischief.

all the youtube videos of the album are missing the intro though, because of the weird way they have the songs indexed (the intro of this song is actually part of the previous song; “Deadman” proper is about 10:11 long and “Change” adds up to about 12:40 when you throw in the intro), so here’s a live version so you can hear what the whole thing is supposed to sound like

one of those cases where it’s pretty difficult to elucidate in words just how much an album means to me – especially the last two tracks (“Deadman” and this). i just discovered these dudes (and this album specifically) during a particularly nasty existential crisis and this album just… hit me like a ten-ton hammer

this year it’s coming
and guess what we’re running from
too late for running
the stitches are coming undone
grab your belongings
the exit is near
making your way through indecisiveness

...

hey, there goes my love again
no one’s coming now
hey, out on my own again
fading faces, broken frowns
hey, i guess i fucked up again
no one will find out
hey, stare at your feet again
don’t say you don’t know

this water’s dark and cold
God’s not where you hoped
He’s more than come and gone
it’s time we all moved on
it’s time we all moved on
it’s time we all moved on
away

still i remind myself
how i define myself
still i remind myself
(i needed to know)
how i define myself
(i needed to know)

i needed to know
i needed
i needed to know

i’ve become a martyr to this cause
become a model to the same
side that i’ve been fighting
i’m still afraid to crawl
(no more pointing fingers at mistakes)
i’m drowning like a saint
(and i’m here in a reflection)
i’m still afraid to fall

how do you suppose
we can light the way to get us home?
what you thought was lost, now found within
feel this weight lift
no more pointing fingers at mistakes
and i’m here in a reflection

sine waves and mirrors
smoke that you inhale
dry mouthing bitter tones
better left unsaid

i know this will burn you
so i’ll become the fire
these days will change us all

don’t you feel the same?
don’t we fear the same things?
don’t we feel the same?
don’t you fear at all?

but lately
maybe the damage has been done
as we float away like embers
beneath us, the fire, still it burns

and i don’t, i don’t know why
we question who we are and then we die
i guess i’ll see you when it ends
i’ll see you ’round the bend
my sober, sorry friend

when we collide
some say goodbye
some save their words
leaving no resolve

there’s a break in the wall
you can feel it
it’s letting us all escape

so people, tell me you need
the waking day
to fall asleep

light your way
find your place
in you

Asymmetry is really good too – at least as good as this album, objectively – but it’s harder for me to get a handle on. it’s just an entirely personal emotional response i have to this specific album and especially these last two songs, and it’s not really Asymmetry’s fault that i fell in love with this album first (though i guess the fact that Asymmetry takes a while to click for most people is a bit of a disadvantage for it in that respect, but in any case, it took me about a month after i heard Sound Awake to even move past it). Asymmetry is actually weirder than Sound Awake, so anyone who knows anything about my taste would expect me to love Asymmetry more, but it just didn’t work out that way this time, because of when i encountered the albums
