What do you wanna see next in the Complication?

Bringing back Sephiroth would be the biggest "jumping of the shark," especially after ACC.

The "jumping of the shark" is already happening, Mako. If we follow the correct order of games and events in the Compilation, then Sephiroth:
1) Was in CC and BC
2) Came back in FFVII
3) Came back in ACC

And if we consider it canon:

4) Came back in Dissidia

He came back from dead 3 times, and was in 4 games, 1 movie, and 1 novel!
I don't want to see him returning again, but I definitely wouldn't be surprised if that happened.

Him being in a game where he's alive and apart of the events that took place is not the same thing as him constantly coming back from the grave, thereby diminishing each of his appearances and defeats each time.

And why are you bringing Dissidia into this? That's not part of the Compilation of FFVII....

Him returning from death only happened twice. There's nothing wrong with him appearing when he's...you know, alive, since he was in the past.

My money is that he'll become the Sigma of the series. I mean, the Mega Man X games are still fun and all, but 8 fucking games of the same villain really brings the definition of "nemesis" to a whole new and ridiculous level.

But if it ain't broke yet business wise there's no reason to fix it, I suppose.

All 8 numerical games indeed, and add to that the 2 game boy games. So 10 times Sigma is the enemy.

It seems universal to wish for a game post DoC, and then a remake. Can't really add much to that. Wouldn't mind more novels though.

it's about time Seffiros considered retirement...

It would be much more interesting seeing what the Weiss-Genesis teamup would turn out to be.

Seriously. Sephiroth's appearances after each subsequent defeat only cheapens his threat, defeat, and memorability.

A legend isn't a legend if they appear every single fucking time and become as predictable as clockwork. Which he would be.

The Legend of Zelda gets away with it because each installment features characters that are the reincarnations of each of the primary wielders of the Triforce and they take place hundreds and hundreds of years apart.

Plus, the whole "less is more" formula works because they don't focus heavily on a continuous story and thus make each title stand alone as its own unique "legend."

FFVII is one continuous narrative.

D'oh, you're right. Still, that's one too many any way you dice it.

So since it seems we are all pretty much in the same boat regarding a recycled Sephy for FFVII, I'm curious to know what kind of enemy you all might want/expect Cloud and the gang to face instead?

I still have to think a bit on mine, but I wanted to pose that question nao. :awesome:

Well obviously he still has Genesis and Weiss to deal with.

But in Case of Denzel, which takes place 1 year after DoC, Reeve says the WRO is now an army. I think I'd like to know how that came about, and I think there could be a fair amount of conflict explored in the similarities the WRO is developing to ShinRa. I could imagine some of the general populace not being entirely wild about that, especially with a former ShinRa exec at the helm, and god forbid they ever find out Rufus is funding it.

^I'd have to disagree with Genesis actually. If anything, I bet he'll be a savior of some sort. CC kinda clarified that point, y'know the deal with him sealing himself up until the planet was in grave danger and needed protection?

I'm not sure about Weiss though. There isn't really enough info there to make any assumptions on where he stands.

I could see something like that--like a gradual reestablishment of the status quo, but just under a different logo?

I wonder, though, if that wouldn't give SE an opportunity to explore how Meteorfall changed the people of the Planet. Remember that for a week or so, everyone thought they were going to die. Everyone. Like Avalanche, did people use the time to find what they cherished, and are they dedicated now to appreciating the things they love most? Would that memory dim over time?

And although this may not be much different from resurrecting Sephiroth for another round, I feel like Jenova herself has not yet been fully dealt with. She was called the Calamity from the Sky, after all, and seems to still be very much alive even after being separated and scattered. My impression throughout FFVII was that she was by far a bigger force than Sephiroth, and there is still some mystery about her, I think. In fact, I had expected her to be the final boss upon my first playthrough, but damn if she wasn't just the warm up. Oh well. :monster:

Well, I don't know what Genesis and Weiss are going to play. I mean Genesis will play a good guy, if anything about what happened to him after Crisis Core is true. Weiss, who originally played a bad guy, is kind of a coin toss, because after reading the translated script of DoC online, I was having a problem deciding if he was really a bad guy or a good guy if the way he acted is anything to go by. Also, and I have to question it, are we sure Loz and Yazoo are really dead? I mean we all thought Rufus ShinRa was dead and look what happened in AC?

EDIT:

Actually I like that idea. I mean UO says, or hints, that Jenova was essentially an intelligent being. So, did Sephiroth really force that much of his will onto it or did she play the 'loving mother' bit, since she does mimic the thoughts of those around her, loved his idea of becoming a god, and wanted him to do her dirty work before essentially taking over. I mean, OU states she did try to take contol of Sephiroth when he was tossed into the lifestream, but I don't think her will will necessarily go away.

to tell you the truth, I'd rather have a remake than a sequel. If there was never a sequel to DoC with Genesis, but there was the remake. I'd be happy.

I reckon we'll get both. The sequel will probly come first and the remake will put an end to the complication hopefully. :monster:

Personally I'd like to see more Seph clones in cloaks an shit. They didn't ALL die, did they? I can't remember. I think making a new WEAPON would be kinda cheesy after Omega and Zirconiade (sp?). Shinra sorta concluded that they want to do their part for the planet, so obviously they're out. Maybe a new band of refugees similar to AVALANCHE, but this time trying to destroy the planet? Why? I'm not sure yet. :monster:

I can imagine that they would do the remake somewhere around FFVII's twentieth anniversary.
At least the graphics should r0xx0rz then, though we'll all be seeing them through our bifocals.

Heck, there may be holodecks by then. Then you could like, BE Cloud or Tifa or whoever--even try to jump around like Red XIII for shits and giggles.

That would be sweet. Although, my dirty imagination is already at work. :reptar:
