Which guys from the remake you find most attractive?

I suspect it may be easier, technically speaking, to create characters who are conventionally good looking, rather than characters whose faces may have less symmetry, but more personality. I find them all a little bit bland, tbh. Very pretty people all look the same and become quite boring to look at quite quickly.

Tseng is still my No. 1 character, but the Remake did him no favours, appearance wise. I like my men to have a jawline. My favourite incarnation of him is Crisis Core Tseng, with the sticky-out ears and the slightly earnest expression.

Edited to add: Biggs. He's the handsomest, though Barret does have those eyes....

I do see what you mean. It’s a lot better than AC though, where everyone really looks homogenous. I think it helps that they have an Italian designer who spends a lot more time around white people than Nomura. It is hard to draw something inspired by something you don’t see in person often.

I feel like they looked biracial honestly. But the white features were all quite generic. Graphical limitations may have been a part of it too.

I dunno about graphical limitations, the characters in spirits within were more varied in comparison. I guess it was difficult because the source characters already existed in anime form maybe?

Yeah my brain registers Cloud as “kid” and so there is no attraction there. I do also love him as a character though.

I’m surprised Reno hasn’t been mentioned much, but I guess it’s because so many characters have had awesome crazy glow ups like Rude and Barret. He is not conventionally attractive but it’s in a way that makes him kind of sexy IMO? He has a unique look.

I was going to mention Reno (in addition to Rufus, Tseng, and Biggs of course) but Reno is unique. I'd definitely call him attractive in the hot/sexy category but usually a long ponytail and face tattoos would be a real turnoff for me even though it does look good on him. He just has the right persona to pull it off I guess.

For the fun of it I'll say Rude. That metro sexual look is something I wish I could pull off. Part of me wants to give it to Rufus, but I'd burst out laughing if he showed up to our evening dinner in his Remake outfit.

Barret, pretty much. I thought Cloud's personality was pretty sexy at times (I mean it! It's that playfulness) but for me I only liked Barret. I too wish they'd done something different with Tseng.

I think Roberto designed the characters in the initial stages of sketch in terms of characters outfit and hairstyle - which basically looked like your typical anime sketches while others worked to transform them into animation cgi appearance?

I recall reading from Ultimania about one staff recounting the numerous changes they had to make for Rufus face and awaiting Nomura's approval or Nomura taking eons to pick Tifa's hair color etc so sounds like Nomura still dictates characters final features and looks. They still largely carry the biracial or anime aesthetic leaning towards anime. Just improved graphics from AC

Rude started out great, but the anime grunts in his phone call with Reno (wherein Rude gets bitched out) completely ruined his character for me. I've been very vocal about how much I loathe anime grunts, but for fuck's sake, being the silent stoic is his entire shtick. Making upset faces and whining noises at the phone is precisely NOT how Rude's character should be. But from an objective viewpoint, I think he's pretty attractive, physically.

Plus those odd stripes on his slacks. I dunno, they're weird.

I do like how he keeps a spare set of sunglasses, though.

I want to see mid-20s Cloud lost and directionless in the foggy swamps of post-adolescence, growing an absolutely abhorrent "beard" in a desperate attempt to feel more grown up and in control than he actually is.

But there is no beard, only patchy bumfluff of the face and the growing alienation of the 'in-between' years where you're too mature of mind to enjoy the humour of 21 year olds anymore but still enough of a dolt to think Elon Musk is cool.

I want Cloud Strife: The 'pick a career' years.

Speaking of Cid - I'm pretty sure that the Remake is going to make him a damn fine example of handsomeness, with lots of attributes we already know from ACC and some more that we're yet to see. So I hope to up this thread in a couple of years again hahaha
