    Official Story Synopsis Translation

I translated the synopsis from the official Japanese site / pre-order pages of various Japanese retailers: By realistically rebuilding the world of FINAL FANTASY VII, it will be reborn as a new story: FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE The life energy pumped out of the planet, mako. Midgar, a...

The new "Ghosts" from the Symphonic Trailer

Trying my hand at a translation of the story: By realistically rebuilding the world of FINAL FANTASY VII, it will be reborn as a new story: FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE The life energy pumped out of the planet, mako. Midgar, a hierarchical city boasting eight mako reactors. The Shinra Company...

E3 2019 Full Trailer with TIFA!

Just throwing it out there, though I think most of us already knew this would be the case. Seeing how much they've expanded just this section of Midgar, you really understand why splitting it into parts was the only feasible way to do the game justice. Obviously the scope of Midgar has always...

    Remake Voice Actors Announced

I fucking knew that Wedge was Badger from Breaking Bad.

Hopes for Remake & Rebirth (gameplay/combat)

Really enjoyed what they showed of the combat during the conference. Tactical Mode looks like a great compromise for people who wanted more of the classic turn-based feel. You basically still get your turn-based command menus, but instead of just waiting for a bar to fill up, you need to move...

    New Trailer Incoming @ Concert

Well, to be honest, if there is one way to recreate the experience of leaving Midgar for the first time, it would be to keep everything after Midgar out of promotional materials and leave it purely as a surprise for when the game launches. I can't think of anything that would generate as much...

FFVII REMAKE COMING TO PS4 ON MARCH 3 2020

I really think the wraiths are supposed to be Jenova's fragments since they're specifically orbiting Sephiroth in the key art, and we know that this Sephiroth is just a projection of Jenova cells that he's controlling remotely. The wraiths will herald his arrival whenever he's going to appear...

FFVII REMAKE COMING TO PS4 ON MARCH 3 2020

In the full resolution of the key art you can more clearly see the swirling mist spirits around Sephiroth. There are four of them. Maybe they're the fragments of Jenova (Birth, Life, Death, and Synthesis) that Sephiroth is controlling. Reminds me a lot of the Black Mist that Kadaj used in...

FFVII REMAKE COMING TO PS4 ON MARCH 3 2020

Maybe adaptation of the ghosts from the Train Graveyard? Actually building it out into lore relating to the Lifestream somehow?

    New Trailer Incoming @ Concert

I mean you can't really complain about an unauthorized bootleg stream getting shut down. Going in you have to know it's a likely outcome.

Yen Press has acquired the rights to the Final Fantasy VII: On the Way to a Smile

Just FWIW, that's a very Japanese way of writing prose, in general. Especially in light novels. There's a strong tendency to have voiced internal monologues, and extremely active narration, sometimes even asking rhetorical questions.

NEW TRAILER: State of Play May 2019

English is used heavily in Japanese media. I would say a majority of Japanese video games have English titles, Final Fantasy among them. Within the Final Fantasy series they also use a ton of English. Obviously most of the character names are written in katakana and/or based on English words...

NEW TRAILER: State of Play May 2019

I've always felt like this version on the right is about what they should be aiming for with his build, and I'm glad that they've pushed closer to it. As for the mako glow, it shouldn't be too obvious I think. Should maybe just depend on how the light hits his eyes.

Guessing Game: Where will Part 1 end?

Just my two cents, but I don't find it especially credible. To qualify, I've got friends in the industry who have leaked stuff to me, including high ranking people in QA, localization, and production, all working for different companies (unfortunately none at Square Enix). Like, I'm talking...

Guessing Game: When will we get the remake?

I'm going to guess that the launch window for the first episode is late Q4 2019 or early Q1 2020, with the final episode released by the end of Q4 2022 so they can release a complete edition for the 25th anniversary. Square Enix announces projects way too early in the pre production phase, but...

Hopes for Remake & Rebirth (story/content)

If it were up to me, I'd release it across four episodes, titled "Birth," "Life," "Death," and "Synthesis," respectively. Each would culminate with a final boss fight against the respective incarnation of Jenova. These moments are also, in my opinion, the most natural and climatic act breaks for...

NEW TRAILER: State of Play May 2019

Sounds like the marketing train is leaving the station, which for Square usually means a launch window has been decided on, barring delays. Suppose I'll have a reason to start actively posting again! I wouldn't count on fewer than three episodes. Personally, I'm expecting four, beginning in...

    Remake Interviews: Catch-all Thread

The Ultima Weapon, at least the Dissidia version, does a pretty good job of evoking the industrial aesthetic of the game. The colors also always reminded me of this:
