No particular order.

Zozo: This town is the source of a great puzzle. It's well known that no one in this town tells the truth, and you have to figure out what time it is in order to get the chainsaw, which is one of Edgar's best tools. So because everyone lies, you have to talk to everyone to see what time they say it is. And then, by process of elimination, the only time no one says it is is the time to which you have to set the clock.

Beyond that, the whole atmosphere of this place was amazing. It really felt like a run-down hell hole full of thieves and brigands. And getting to the top of the tower and finding Tina there was one of the most evocative scenes of the game. The music is great too.

Narshe: Something about this town is just amazing. Possibly it's the huge sense of mystery that surrounds it from the very first scene. Possibly it's the fact that it looks like no previous town in the series and has the sense of being on the verge of history. Possibly it's coming back to it in the second half of the game and finding everyone is dead or has vanished and the town is overrun with monsters. Whatever it is, this town is unique in the series. And again, the music fits perfectly.

Midgar: Splintered already said basically everything that could have been said.

Phantom Village (V): Similarly, Force basically summed up why I liked it.

And pretty much every location from FFIX. I don't even remember them that well by this point, because I only played the game once and it was five years ago, but they all had their own unique personalities and they all were hugely expansive.

Midgar because I am boring and predictable.

Other than that... The Moon from Final Fantasy IV.

Why?

because it's the fucking MOON.

Day 05: Any town from FFXII. The architecture, the level of detail, the immersion, the music, the different races and cultures... Everything is beautifully combined and the result is a world full of win, you really can feel like you're inside of the towns. Special mention to Archades, Rabanastre, Balfonheim, Giruvegan (yeah, Giruvegan), Mt. Bur-Omisace, and Bhujerba.

...Oh, and Midgar is pretty cool, too.

I do have a love/ hate relationship with Zozo. I LOVE the music, but I dislike the puzzle and the lieing can be so frustrating.

But, my favourite town would have to be The Black Mages village from FF9. It's so magical, peaceful, and everybody there is so nice and friendly despite everything they've been through, and they're really cute and shy too. Awwhs <3 Vivi, is cute and adorable own his own, BUT A WHOLE TOWN OF VIVI'S ?!?! Totally, awesome- sauce.

:awesome:

Day 6? Favourite part of any FF game? That's so hard.

FF8 had a lot of great sequences (the airship battle, the Edea assassination) but I might have to go with the Attack on Alexandria from FFIX. From the moment the Treno card tournament ends until Zidane wakes up in Lindblum. Every major player is involved (except for Brahne). The FMVs are gorgeous, the battles are good (Beatrix and Steiner!), and even though it's a huge sequence it keeps building momentum until the moment Garland makes his first appearance, and then it's a huge payoff (depending on how you look at it).

It's the best example I can think of in an FF when every story element came together and played off each other to keep you on your toes. It was completely unlike a regular FF climax, where everyone shows up and helps you do one task. Everyone was going after their own thing and that launched the story forward. It reminded me of what the perfect D&D game would be like.

Well then let me put in another example. Siege on the Shinra Tower. Cloud, Barret, Aerith, Tifa, Red XIII, Hojo, Pres. Shinra, the Turks, Jenova, Sephiroth (in a way), Rufus, everyone had part in this. We learned a lot, it had it's entertaining minigame and it's series of bosses (not particularly hard ones though, FFVII was never very good with that but still)

Favourite part of favourite games:

VII: Either the plate collapsing on Sector 7 or the Weapon attack on Junon (plus Tifa/Scarlet slapbattle shortly thereafter). Watching the plate fall with all the NPCs running away and the screaming in the background was sickening.

The Weapon attack on Junon was just awesome. And don't lie, you all know that slapping Scarlet on her ass was possibly the most satisfying part of the game.

Tactics: The final scene between Delita and Ovelia. Delita finally realizes he's become the very thing he hates, and Ovelia...well, ;_;. Also the entire Fort Zeakdan scene.

Favourite part of any FF game: FFVI, the opera. <3

Day V: Mt. Bur-Omnisace; mainly because I loved the music, the various feelings I felt going through the place, and the wonderful story behind it. It had a great climax, the setting couldn't be better for the story, and even the rain made it great. When it stopped, you could really feel that this place would get better even without their leader. It was like they all banded together and were moving on.

Day VI: I would say my favorite part of any FF game would be when the gang in FFX were about to confront Yunalesca. You get to learn the awful truth behind the whole farce, you learn the truth about Auron, and there's so much emotion going on that you can't help but feel betrayed too. I know I did. :monster: It felt really good too when I beat all three versions of her! :awesome:

Speaking of, I would put Present and Past Zanarkand in with my favorite place, but since I was describing it after my day 5 description, I didn't feel like repeating myself. :monster:

Day 6: Favorite Part of an FF game

Well, as a lot of you, I'm not sure I could pick one single moment. But I'll highlight a couple that I can think of off the top of my head (II, III, IV, XII - I couldn't think of any right away):

I - the bridge being built near Cornelia (why? cause this was a major accomplishment in my young life, lol)

V - the final scene with Galuf

VI - Locke & Rachel's goodbye scene
the Opera Scene with Celes

VII - Aerith's death scene, or more specifically Cloud's line afterward ("what about us, etc")
the entire Lifestream sequence

VIII - the opening sequence
the parade

IX - Odin/Cleyra
Alexander/Bahamut
Zidane/Blank escape from the forest

X - the opening sequence (+kick-ass music)
the ending (best ending of an FF game, imo)
the wedding rescue (I remember seeing Tidus jump between cables on the commercial, and being excited for this game :awesome:)

XIII - when they all become l'cie/Lake Bresha events
when they all become crystal (I wish there were longer shots of each of them as crystals though)

X-2 - the great ending
the Farplane sequence between Yuna/Shuyin up until Yuna gets out
Yuna's dream of her & Tidus, and the same sequence between Lenne/Shuyin

AC/C - Tifa/Loz fight
Cloud's return during the Bahamut fight
Cloud's scene with Marlene (awww)

CC - the ending (even though I knew it would happen!)
Zack & Cloud meeting
seeing the Nibelheim stuff

DC - Cloud's intro w/ Fenrir and his clash with Rosso
the opening sequence

Revenant Wings - Penelo's dance

Favorite parts:

FFIV: Finding Rydia again in the land of the summons, idk if that's what it's called, but that's what I'm calling it. xD And when Palom and Parom first
'died'
. I didn't like them all that much, but I was still like NOOO ;__; I also love the beginning with Rydia's "I HATE YOU!" (in the DS version)

FFVI: The opera scene, of course. And then when Celes is on her own with her Uncle and her whole process of leaving the island.

FFVII: The Wall Market, The Lifestream with Cloud and Tifa, Aerith's Death/all of going through The Forgotten City, The Highwind Scene♥, Gold Saucer, annnd Cosmo Canyon.

FFVIII: As much as I dislike Squall and Rinoa, the ball room dance scene is still fucking cute and I adore it.

FFIX: Um the whole game? Actually this might sound weird, but one of my favorite parts is when Freya sees Fratley (sp) again. That part was so freaking depressing... T_T I also like every single part of Branbul, Black Mage Village, being held prisoners by Kuja, okay I'm going to list off the whole game seriously so I'll stop. (When Garnet cuts her hair... *keeps rambling*)

FFX: I DON'T CARE HOW RIDICULOUS IT IS, I LIKED TIDUS AND YUNA'S KISSING SCENE. Also that part at the end where she's whistling... T___T Baaaaw.

FFX-2: 1,000 words. The ending (if you get the one where Yuna jumps out of the airship into his arms and also, the sad ending where she says good bye//I love you. *sobs*)

FFXII: Mt. Bur-Omnisace. I cried so many tears for Larsa. T^T Also the beginning where Vaans flower gets stepped on and I'm sitting there like... CAN I PLEASE JUST KILL THESE GUYS?
Um... The Leviathan! And first meeting Larsa. And any scene with Larsa and Penelo alone. :awesome:

FFXIII: I actually like the scene between Vanille and Hope, Lightning and Hope, and Snow/Hope. And I do like the gushy romance scene with Snow and Serah during the fireworks, no matter how incredibly stupid I thought it was that they were flying so close to them. ALSO SAZH AND VANILLE SCENE WAS PRETTY INTENSE. <-- bolded to show the intensity >w>

Crisis Core: The entire ending. Tseng saying he has 89 letters to deliver to Zack. Aerith and Zack's first date. Aerith and Zack's first meeting. Angeal's death, and Zack becoming all badass. I also like how they showed us what his scar meant. Zack and Cloud's first meeting. Lots of scenes I loved.

Final Fantasy VII: The dream sequence in the Sleeping Forest. The dialogue and the direction was just flawless in this scene. Especially when Cloud is trying to run after Aeris but he's just stuck in one place (we've all had dreams like that). It's really eerie, sad, and just a tad sweet with the brave face Aeris is putting on. Guh. Tears my heart out.

Final Fantasy IX: First one would be when Garnet cuts her hair. idgaf, I love her cute, short haircut and everything that it meant to her. It was a great character moment.

Second would be when Kuja finds out he's going to die. I remember this being the first time I truly felt bad for a villain; his initial reaction (the broken down semi-psychotic laughter) really hit me in the gut when I first played. And then him just no longer giving a shit and destroying Terra.

Final Fantasy X: When Yuna performs the sending the first time. The music was great and her movements were so fluid, it really impressed me when I saw it. Shit, it still impresses me.

Final Fantasy XIII: It's honestly hard to choose, this game actually had really good character moments. I actually liked the scene where Snow starts losing all that bravado in the face of the truth, it was realistic. And even though I was sure no one was going to die during the Sazh/Vanille confrontation, it was a really heavy moment -- and I loved that the token "genki girl" had some depth to her. Her facial expressions just kill me every time. I also like when they're on Gran Pulse and they realize how far along their marks are, and there's just this sense of fear and what the hell do we do now?

Plus, any Fang/Vanille scene, but that's a given.

FFVI: And then when Celes is on her own with her Uncle and her whole process of leaving the island.

Oh God. The part with her on the cliff ;.; And then with the seagull, and Locke's bandana. That whole part was awesome.

FFIX: Actually this might sound weird, but one of my favorite parts is when Freya sees Fratley (sp) again. That part was so freaking depressing... T_T

This too. I also like their little ending too. He doesn't remember anything, but he falls in love with her again.

FFX: I DON'T CARE HOW RIDICULOUS IT IS, I LIKED TIDUS AND YUNA'S KISSING SCENE.

Uh huh. Yes yes. This scene was adorable. Their whole exchange prior to it and after it too was so sweet.

Crisis Core: Angeal's death, and Zack becoming all badass.

I liked the part, too, where he's crying and Aerith hugs him from behind. d'awww.

Zee said:

I think she's cuter with her short hair. I liked this scene too.

Splintered

unsavory tart
IV: Not that far, but so far, P+P's death scene, and yeah I know they aren't really dead, is the only thing that's really got me interested. I actually liked the two kids, they're brats but they're also the most emotionally stable out of everyone there. And then they're like, "You tards, guess I got to save you guys again." Bad ass moment.

But this is quickly replaced by rage. TELLAH IS MY ONLY MAGE!? FUUUUUUUUU

VI: I haven't made it too far into the game, but so far my favorite part is Terra turning esper for the first time. If there's one scene I want to be remade to the t in cgi, it's this scene. (for some reason, I just didn't care about the opera scene >__>)

VII: I like the typical responses, Aerith's death scene. And by Aerith's death scene I mean from the temple of Ancients all the way to when she bites the big one.

I think this entire sequence of events is one of the best written parts I've played. Perfect music, perfect mood, yeah I'm probably overhyping it but this is the point when I was young that really just took my breath away. And it's weird that I always get something more from it every new time I play it.

There's an lj community dedicated to replaying that entire game and it puts everything much better than I can. But I'm going to steal their ideas and put it in here:

It's the first time you really that you and Shinra have no idea what they are getting into. The planet is so far above your pay grade and you can only be a spectator as Aerith begins to grow in who she is as an Ancient.

So what happens as Aerith finally comes to terms with who she is- Cloud begins to lose it. Cloud laughing at the black materia is one of the most unsettling moments I've ever played, because you always knew something was up but you never knew it was so wrong. And then you see Cloud trying to reallign his personality and what the fuck just happened?

Then Cloud just wails on Aerith. When I first played it years ago, I didn't catch it. It wasn't until I was older did I realize what was going on, and I was like, "Holy shit, he's beating the crap out of her."

Somebody makes the point that the only reason they may have been able to get away with it is because of the blocky graphics. So that begs the question, if we really want a remake (which I don't), how would they do it? Replaying the game, it's incredibly violent few seconds. I mean sure, I chainsawed bitches and killed hookers. But that is completely different from a beloved character beating what is quite possible the sweetheart icon of videogames.

The next part is so completely Aerith, forgiving and mysterious, but at the same time reckless and playful. Also, "I'll be right back" BAWWWWWWWWWW. So after you have your crisis of identity... you wake up in, well, Gongonga. If that's not a huge hint about Zack, I don't know what is. That and Cait Sith... It's just one of those great little hidden meanings that show how much they thought about this.

I could go on forever, but going to the ancients, touching the mirror things knowing that you just can't understand what the hell is going on, and that one hope is just taken away from you. And Sephiroth just smiles at you as he does the entire thing.

VIII.

Battle of the Gardens. I listed Gardens as one of my favorite place because it was "yours." You're not just wandering heroes, you got a home and people that count on you. One of the very few times I warmed up to Squall was him taking charge of the Garden as Galbadia begins to invade.

I think it's a great thing when you feel in a game, "this is yours, don't let them take it from you." I think they could have pushed it better, but overall, I really felt like Squall was stepping up to the plate. There's that.. really stupid scene where you got to save Rinoa again. But at least Squall looked kinda cool doing it.

Also, running around while the fmvs behind you show a full battle going on= fantastic blood pumping moment. Also, using "The Landing" music. Hell yes.

IX: Destruction of Alexandria.

Some of the best CG sequences ever. It's also extremely imaginative, like when you are going up the tower and the stairs just fold up for you. It's one of Garnet's best moments as she takes up the mantle of protector, and it is helped by Eiko's sort of "otherwordlyness" It kind of reminds me of Aerith's scenes where you're not really sure what's going on but you're rolling with it anyways.

Then you take out Bahamut and you're like "HOLY SHIT MY TEAM IS AMAZING. I JUST SLAYED A DRAGON IN ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME WAYS EVER. I AM UNSTO-"

"What the fuck is that? Wait, what NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

So after having one of the most impressive sequences ever, your country falls anway. It's like a slap in the face because no one sees it coming. Watching everything fall apart on Garnet is one of the most heartbreaking sequences ever.

Also that scene where Zidane saves her, and Garnet just hugs him amidst the chaos was on of the best shippy moments ever, beyond all the fluffy ~kissing in the lake and under the stars. Because there's something so powerfully raw and hectic at that moments, but in one way everything will be okay.

Watching Alexandria crumble was so shocking that I never did blame Garnet being mute, even when I really needed her to cure me.

X:

I was thinking about putting the storn on Yuna's wedding but no

Sure it's not really a playable part. But if there's one scene that perfectly sums up anything and everything I liked about X, this is it.

It's strange, it's beautiful, and it's tragic. It's completely random, there was no reason for this violence, but that's the world they are living in. And even amongst the most obnoxious of traits, Tidus being annoying, Yuna being overly passive, Lulu being bitchy, and Wakka being prejudice, it's like it's all muted because everyone knows the greater purpose of the whole thing. It's about finding the strength to go on even when things seems dismal, and it shows Yuna's real strength of character just to go on.

This is one of the games where you just never get away from the enemy, it's seeped into the culture, the lives, and their dreams. Yeah X got tons of sad moments, but the sending is the one that makes the most impact, because it reminds you why you fight.

XII: I can't really remember a ton of scenes that really affected me. But the one that's most memorable, imo, was the beginning.

The opening fmv was really long, but it was worth it and brilliantly directed. You get to play as random soldier #2324 and play through the fall of your own kingdom. In a way that's the most tragic part of the game. You're weaved into this huge political intrigue and grand human plot, so you get stabbed and just fall dead. WTF Basch you seemed like a really cool guy ;_;

Anyway, there wasn't a lot of gameplay in it because it was basically and introduction level, but what better way to introduce you than in a full scale war. And then kill off your likeable intro character. Poor Reks, I hardly knew ya.

XIII.

Sazh confronting Vanille.

Had this better writing, I would think this had the potential to be one of the strongest moments in FF. It's a great turn of character, Sazh the comedic goofy old dude, and the bumbling hyperactive little girl turn completely serious. It's the moment where Sazh loses absolutely fucking everything, and all of Vanille's lies finally catch up to her.

There was obviously a build to it, Sazh was really beginning to wear down and it seemed that Vanille was the only thing keeping him going. Meanwhile as well intentioned Vanille was to not hurting anyone, she just kept dragging people along with her. When Jihl finally tells Sazh what really happened, he just says, "Vanille" sounding like he's just tired of it all and it's probably the saddest line anyone says.

He's angry, confused and almost wants revenge, and Vanille is tired of living with all this guilt, but Sazh is an awesome character, so he doesn't shoot her. Instead he turns the gun on himself.

You know, suicide is used too often as a trope to the point it feel forced. But I really felt Sazh was sick of all this shit and he just wanted it to be over.

He doesn't do it, and they do the eyerolling COFFINSTRETCHER thing, but that few seconds of absolute misery were the best moments in both Vanille and Sazh's character.

FFCC:
Don't know whether or not to put Zack's death or Angeal's death. I'll just put Angeal's death as a toss of the coin. I really like Zack's character. I wish they just scrapped Genesis and focused on the people around him.

Zack coping with Angeal's death was really well done, imo. It was dramatic, but it wasn't overdone. He cried about it, he was comforted (that seen with Aerith is my favorite Z/A moment), and then he grew up. Honestly, there were a lot of good things he done, but the way he coped was admirable.

FF DoC: When I turned it off.

.
FFV:
Galuf's death
, the entire Void, anything involving Gilgamesh, the ending
FFVI: Pretty much the entire game. Obviously the opera is a highlight though, and I especially liked the freedom you were given in the latter half. The floating continent is particularly well done as well, and the ending may also be the greatest ending of any game ever. And of course, no one can forget the final confrontation with Kefka. "This is sickening! You sound like chapters from a self-help booklet!"
FFVII: Basically from the opening of the game until they leave Midgar. The Temple of the Ancients was also a highlight. They really got the atmosphere right in that section. And of course the Lifestream sequence, which I can't believe I didn't remember when I poasted this poast.
FFIX: The "You're not alone" sequence, and for that matter pretty much anything on Terra. They really managed to make the whole thing feel otherworldly. Again though, this is a game that's difficult to pick highlights from because there were so many awesome parts.
FFX: Honestly I enjoyed the monster arena the most out of anything in the game.

Haven't played any of the others long enough to have favourite parts.

Double Growth
FFV - Gilgamesh. I have never laughed out loud so much at a game.

FFVI - Cyan and the Doomtrain (sounds like a band), and when Kefka starts absolutely trouncing all the Espers. Its the first time I really appreciated his power.

FFVII - The aforementioned Great Warrior scene, and Junon on Disc 2 during Weapon's attack and Tifa's execution and slapfight etc. etc.

FFVIII - I always liked that scene where Squall jumps down into that car during the parade and powers forward to badass music :monster:

FFIX - Oh geez, who knows. Odin destroying Cleyra is one of the most badass FMVs around.

FFX - The ending. Dismantling Sin piece by piece is pretty cool too.

FFXII - All of Balthier's quips. Like when Basch comments on the level of fugitives they'll be upon decided to go after the Dawn Shard. To which Balthier says, "I wonder what your head fetches these days?" Its not as funny out of the moment, but I lol'd. THe Dawn Shard detonating was a cool scene too.

FFXIII - The FMV when you first leave Cocoon and ride Bahamut around Pulse. Awesome, beautiful scene.

FFT - The battle where I kill Argath/Algus. Asshole.
