Argh, all behind.

Fave female: Yuffie. Very closely followed by Tifa, Aeris, Celes, Beatrix, Freya, Fang, Lightning, Agrias and Ovelia.

I used to hate Yuffie. Like, despise her, because that little bitch stole my materia and no one fucks with my materia. But once I got into the fandom I grew to like her character, and by the time I started my most recent full playthrough she had catapulted to the top of my favourite FF female list.

This is a girl who's spent presumably several years of her childhood running around by herself trying to literally steal her country's glory back. On one hand this has made her independent and one hell of a ninja, and on another has taken away any semblance of decent social skills. It makes for this incredible contradiction of adult convictions and abilities mixed with childish behaviour and attitude. She talks too much, she whines a lot, she has no real brain-to-mouth filter - and that's something any one who's ever been a teenager or interacted with a teenager can relate to. But she's also fiercely loyal - to her country, at first, but later also to her new-found friends - she has great pride in her abilities (and with good reason - climbing the pagoda solo at 16 and tying her father, arguably the best ninja in the world?), and she's got enough of a clever streak to hoodwink 8 people who are older and more experienced than her.

And after all her hard work saving the world and no doubt getting at least some materia of here own, she doesn't get an ounce of thanks from her people. Ouch, right? But Yuffie's pride in Wutai never fades, and she's always ready to do whatever is necessary for her country.

Fave limit break: Red's Lunatic High. Meteorrain is also pretty sick, as are Tifa's slots.

Fave minigame: Eesh, hard choice between snowboarding and motorcycle. Probably snowboarding.

I enjoyed breeding and racing chocobos and fighting in the battle arena the most

clumsy with everything else

can't snowboard, ride motorcycle, keep up with the army in Junon, imitate Crono's clone, get out of burning building with all items in Tzen (or anything with a timeclock), even slide around numbers 1-15; always had my little brother do it for me

Omnislash and Final Heaven are my favs.

Omnislash because just totally fucking loses it and goes batshit on his enemy, and Final Heaven because it's simple, looks awesome, and is right to the point,.

My favourite FF opening sequence is, without a doubt, FFXII’s. It is the most epic opening of any FF game to date, filled with epic moments and with an awesome theme to boot.

Honorable mentions go to FFIX’s opening (because the arrival of the Prima Vista at Alexandria is an awesome moment and the music is beautiful), FFX’s opening (Otherworld and Sin tearing shit up, enough said) and FFVIII’s opening (blood, swords and Liberi Fatali).

Favorite opening has got to be FFVIII. But FFX comes in a VERY close second with Otherworld and Tidus and Auron.

I've always liked FF8's intro the best. It kind of starts out slowly, and you start to see slow words appear on the screen, and then a quiet, humming latin tune, gets faster and faster, and then of a sudden you're watching these two young men, one with blonde hair, the other brunette battle it out, as the latin song in the back gets more and more dramatic, then suddenly the brunette fighter is cut and wounded, you don't know whether to cheer or to bite your nails thinking that the good guy could be injured, and then you see faces of two women, one looks looks like a sorceress, the other, is she like Tifa ?!, and then suddenly you see the brunette fighter reach out for the girl who looks kind of like Tifa did, and then you see the words Final Fantasy VIII appear.. and you just think... wow... what the hell was that ?, did the good guy just die ?, who was that girl ?!?

And then you find out that Seifer and Squall were just training for some class exam and you're like "Oh great, I've been trolled " ! :wacky:

The whole fucking game was a giant troll after that intro.

I was blown away by FFVIII's opening FMV, I've already gushed about Liberi Fatali. The graphics are *still* impressive in their cleanliness and scope. I used to watch it over and over again. But I'm not sure that's enough to claim the title.

In my opinion, a great opening for a game has to get the player pumped to play the game. And that doesn't necessarily dictate an adrenaline rush, just a great hook. FFVIII's opening gets me pumped to watch FFVIII's opening. Once you spend five minutes lying in a bed, you're already in a completely different setting -- one that, in my opinion, is just as rich (I've also gushed about Balamb Garden and how very home it is) but the gulf between the 'epic battle' in the FMV and touring Selphie around Garden is too wide to cross smoothly.

So my vote goes to Final Fantasy IX. It remains the only game in the series to have gameplay integrated in the scenes before the title, which really captures that wonderful FF illusion of player control of the story. That alone is enough to pump me up to play, but there's more.

I've talked before about how FFIX -- at the best of times -- felt like what D&D would be if it ever lived up to its potential. The first mission in Alexandria is a perfect example of that. Not as epic as later Alexandria adventures but it has similar elements. You're introduced to four separate characters with unique motivations and worldviews. Each characters story arc plays off the others, catapulting them all into the mist (literally). Opening up the save-the-princess cliche to have us play the kidnapper as well as the knight is nothing short of genius.

The actual opening of that sequence (until the title arrives, in such a fashion as to warrant italics) gives us just a taste of what's to come, it's tantalizing and curious and addictive. After so many playthroughs, I still watch the opening on YouTube and want nothing more than to see that mission through to the end (which makes me want to do the one after that and so on until the accursed Fossil Roo)

My favourite part of a book is the first sentence. Likewise, I don't think its a coincidence that IX is my favourite FF. A well-crafted opening paves the path that a good story goes down. It's true for everyone's favourite FFs. FFVI had the ominous march through the snowfield. VII had the gruesome urban nightmare of Midgar contrasted with an ironically heroic fanfare. And VIII had two great openings that didn't serve each other. So it's a hard choice for sure, but IX takes this'un for me:

A tie between FFVIII and FFXII.

FFVIII was, honestly, brilliant. The music just draws you in and the whole thing is just artistically done. It's mysterious, it's visually inspiring, it's got a relatively cool fight sequence- and it shows blood which is something that I always feel FF hesitates to do, it feels both magical and ominous at the same time.

And then you play the game.

FFXII sets a fantastic tone for the game. You understand, at least a bit, about what's going on and it's cinematic. Rassler dying was a huge blow to those who probably didn't see it coming. You get to start the game at the breakdown of the war- how great is that for mood? A wedding, a war, a funeral, what more could you ask for?

FFVIII's opening is so amazing it almost makes you forget what a terrible experience playing it is. So it's probably on top for me.

However I also liked FFXIII's opening. I feel like I should have a good, proper, in depth explanation as to why but the truth is I'm incredibly shallow and Lightning gave me a girl boner.

I've mulled over all of them, and I still like FFVII's opening the best. Probably I'm incapable judging it objectively; I can't separate it from my love for the game as a whole. But oh! the wheeling stars that transform into delicate fireflies of steaming mako, through which a girl's face materialises; Aerith's walk down the alley, footsteps echoing, and out into the busy, 'normal' street - the way the camera then pulls right back to show us Midgar in its stunning entirety, before zooming back in on the moving train, rushing us past all the intricate detail of the city: it's intriguing and exciting in equal measure. And the music!

After that, it's FFIX for me.

Never in the history of my internet use have I agreed with a post so much. FFIX is my runner up too.

I agree with others that, although its all downhill from there, VIII has the best opening. No other opening gets your heart pounding like that one did.

While I didn't necessarily see it coming. The fact that he A) was marrying a main character and B) had completely unspectacular hair, told me his days were numbered.
And really, of ALL the places to have an opening in your armor :monster:

Favourite outfit.

Well, this may sound a bit biased having her name as a username and all. But my favourite outfit is Terra's. It's really feminine, sexy, but not too slutty and even though red isn't one of my favourite colours, everytime I look at Terra's outfit, I get a strong desire to just love the colour red. A outfit that is so amazing that it makes you change who you are, and your personality, just speaks words.

Also Tiff is going to hate me for this and send me tons of hate mail, but I think that Squall Leonhart has a good costume too. I've always wanted to have a black fluffy animal furred jacket like his, and it kind of matches his pessimestic personality.

Sorry Tiff.

Favourite costume: Golbez. The most amazing example of bad-ass in a giant suit of armour in the whole series. I miss those days... Some honourable mentions...

Squall: That coat is boss (unless you see it in real life, in which case it is decidedly not boss).
Zidane: More amazing than the cravat are the cuffs without sleeves, and the riding pants. But the cravat is also amazing.
Beatrix: Power and femininity.
Steiner: Mostly for the noise it makes.

Is there a "most ridiculous costume" day?

I like Reeve's long blue velvet mage-coat in Dirge.
Balthier's tout ensemble, and especially his birkenstocks.
The Turks' suits, obviously.
Vivi. I adore his trousers and the cut of his coat, and they way he's always adjusting that big hat with those gloved hands.

I think I'm the only one who prefers Balthier's variant in FFT. Don't get me wrong, the original is debonair and has exquisite attention to detail (like all the FFXII designs), but I like the flicked up collar, and the white is a great complement to the rest of his ensemble. It looks more like something Balthier would wear on his intrepid adventures.

Favourite Outfits:
Tifa (FFVII)
Sephiroth (FFVII)
Beatrix (FFIX)
Lulu (FFX)
Yuna (FFX-2) - Warrior Dressphere
Ashe (FFXII)
Penelo (FFXII Ending/Revenant Wings)
Cloud (AC)
Yuffie (AC)

And loads I'm forgetting.

Squall: That coat is boss (unless you see it in real life, in which case it is decidedly not boss).

The problem is, when people make the coat (cosplayers or cosplay companies) in real life they use cheap nasty fur - the kind teddybears are made from. If I was going to make Squalls jacket I would use Marabou or ostrich feathers for the collar*, this stuff actually moves in the wind instead of just being stuck there. Looks much more classy. Failing that, I'd have to splash out on the more expensive fake furs.

*the more I look at the images, the more convinced I am that it IS meant to be feathers (fits in nicely with FFVII's feather motif)

My favourite outifits of FF:

1) Turks suits obv

2) Squall, Quistis and Rinoas outfits - they had a certain je ne sais quoi, probably because they werent that outlandish so could be worn in real life.

3) Paines original outfit from FFX-2 yeah ok it was a bit over the top, and the game sucked more than FFX (as if that were possible!) but I remember seeing her character art way back when and thinking she looked fucking cool. They should have saved her design for something else....

I don't know if I have a favorite outfit. I guess I never really thought about it much. But I like Squall's. I like Yuna's Floral Fallal outfit. Penelo's dance outfit is adorable. Lightning's is cool too except for the boots.

Terra's outfit and Yuna's FFX outfit I love -- they have the best mix of color and great use of patterns. Vanille's is also a personal favorite (DAT BEADING) and I also have a soft spot for Rydia's

OH! Oh. And any of the female Selkie outfits in Crystal Chronicles. The main reason I will never choose a different race in that game, is because none of the others are such snappy dressers. :monster:
