30 Days of Final Fantasy!! (2018)

Vivi, as the best FF character and male, would have to take it.

Then, among the more traditionally "masculine" options: Barret, Cloud, Auron, Balthier, and Sazh are all up there.

Vivi, Cloud, Vayne, Kuja, Auron. Probably in that order. Currently have a preference toward Vayne though :P. Complex villain with arguably 50% good intentions, woo.

Hmm, I'd say it's a toss up between Larsa (the sass levels are just too good), Auron (for his rather darker sassiness), and Balthier (did I mention I like the sass levels these guys put out?).

I can't get on with a lot of FF's male characters. They are either far too Bishounen or just a complete joke/archetype. Yet Snow manages to be both of those things, while also not being a walking angst factory. Plus I love the hero trope in these dramatic games where everybody has something to be sad or pissed off about.

Also Larsa cos he's the best.

Not in this order but Kain, RedXIII, Vincent, Cid (Highwind), Vivi, Auron, Balthier, Vayne and Caius. I would also add Ravus thanks to the game updates that made it a more complete character.

I've always felt something of an emotional attachment to Cloud because I relate a lot to his childhood and the whole 'outsider in a small town' thing. I also see him as a sidekick who’s been abandoned by the hero, but has to play the hero's role anyway (same reasons why I adore characters like Spiderman).

I see Zack as the quintessential Good Guy Protagonist, yeah? Especially with the release of the Compilation titles. He's good, he's strong, he’s confident, he believes very much in his own noble causes. But then he passes away, and we're left with Cloud, who's basically The Player (YOU). He's the player who has to step into the hero's shoes because something's gone terribly wrong and not at all as planned. And, goodness, does he try to fill those shoes, even at times when he's feeling unsure about himself. And I love that. That's how I see him anyway.

I love the whole Jerk With a Heart of Gold thing that Barret has going on. Methinks he's this big sweetie who's naturally optimistic, but has been hardened by life and has to be rough by necessity. The 'shiny, golden wire of hope' line man. Only the purest of pure hearts can dish that shit out and believe it!! TT__TT

The third character I wanna mention is Tseng, but I don't think he really counts because it's more my headcanons about him that make me adore him as much as I do LOL. I mean, I’ve always thought he was coolish aside from the bitchslapping he dishes out, but...yeah...aahh...the imagination is a wonderful thing. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Cid reminds me of one of my favourite uncles. So I'll always have a spot in my heart for him, haha.

:awesome:...

FFVII: Well, I personally think Aerith's death in FFVII takes the cake here. I didn't know she was going to die when I first played the game, and found it really shocking.

...in distant second place...

FFIX: Vivi's inevitably short life I think was alluded to throughout the story, so wasn't that surprising he actually died in the end, but still sad.
FFX: I think it was also alluded to that all the dead people would be "sent" in the end throughout the story, but given (at least in western tradition) such inevitabilities are generally broken, it is a bit of a surprise they went through with it (though iirc, the happy ending comes in FFX-2?).
FFXII: I didn't want Reddas to die :P... but given the lack of time to get emotionally connected with the character, it is less tragic. If the story was written with him as a more central character from the beginning, it would have been almost as shocking as Aerith's death (though he willingly sacrificed his life, rather than it being taken from him, which is a bit different).

Day 6: Probably Sephiroth. He was interestin and surprisingly pragmatic.

Honourable mentions: Steiner, Zidane, Vivi, Yaag Rosch

Day 7: I honestly don't remember how I reacted to most of them. The black mage factory in Dali, maybe?

Vivi's grandfather, who he talks about all the time was merely getting around to eating him.

I think FFVII was the only FF I played more than a couple of times. Was my first FF as well, and I was in school at the time, so had the time to investigate every nook and cranny. Put the effort into what I feel was at least close to a 100% complete, except for filling out the enemy skill materia, which bothered me to no end. That and the boxing game in the Gold Saucer (which I think comes down to luck, don't it?), and possibly the hardest level in the snow boarding (may have completed it, but don't remember).

Game-changer
Final Fantasy VII I think was the first FF I played. That or FFX. It's a blur at this point. But FFVII was the first that I owned. In classic FFVII fashion, as I was playing things quickly took an interesting turn and I could not stop! I quickly became embroiled in Cloud's journey and especially his relationship with Tifa. I think I managed to get to level 99 on my first save file, but through many years and multiple files later (even on the PS3 version) I still have not managed to breed a gold chocobo. Lol!

^ Same on the chocobo, I caught one in the end and between saves it disappeared (I suspect foul play with my younger brother on my save file but nothing has ever been admitted).

Let's see....I didn't realise where this thread had gone so my favourite team was probably Cloud, Red XIII and Vincent/Yuffie. Favourite FF males are Cid followed by Vincent and biggest shock was probably Aeris, but finding out Vincent's backstory and how Sephiroth came to be and the fact that his birth mom was still alive but sealed away was rather grotesque, not really shocking though.
OFC my first FF was VII but now I'm playing the first game I've got a whole new appreciation for JRPGS, I mean the mindset of an experienced RPG gamer is to grind but when I first played FFVII I just wanted to do all the things, explore everything and talk to everyone (this is why it takes me so long to complete games). Right now in FF I'm blitzing enemies that should be mashing fuck out of my characters just because I've spent so much time earning gil and levelling up and buying upgraded spells. *sigh of contentment*

FFVII. I was so obsessed with the atmosphere, graphic and music that I start studying English (despite my young age) so I could understand everything.

Favourite male FF characters are Sabin (VI), Balthier (XII), Red XIII (VII) and Barrett (VII) in no particular order.

Most shocking FF moment: They're all shocking. I anticipate nothing because I play all games using walkthroughs (blasphemous). Finding out that Cloud was living through the memories of Zack in VII and, in VI,
the 'end of the world' in VI occurring in the middle of the game and mucking up the entire World Map comes to mind.

First FF obsession was definitely VII.

Got 7, 8, and 9 on the same day. Played 7 first, I think, which was a revelation as it was my first introduction to games beyond the likes of Mario.
