Shade Thief, but there's a fair chuck of back-story involved as for why it's a Shade. Let's just say it was the best of several bad options at the time.

Awesome.

I'm looking through it in the character builder right now, and it actually fits really well with the first adventure we're gonna do, I think.

Would you be willing to PM me a more detailed version of the backstory you have in the character builder?

I will, I'm currently digging around in the compendium for info... but I'm now very happy I read a lot of R. A. Salvadore's Forgotten Realms novels as most of the general supernatural stuff is all the same. And he's a good author.

Might be delaying our start for a few days. Since I'm moving soon I'm gonna be unable to access the internet until I can get it set up at the new place.

I'm a bit curious as to who made the character, "Far Touch".

Anyway, aside from that I'm gonna see about getting my D&D books from the old place today, and after that I think we shall start. Anyone who is planning to join but does not have a character, or who decides they want to join somewhere down the road, can be incorporated easily enough.

I have a problem with the character builder. I apparently have to subscribe to use it, and a subscription apparently costs money, and I'm unwilling to pay. Is there any way I can do it for free?

Made my character. So when do we start? and how are we gonna be doing this?

I'll probably start the actual thread when I get back from work later this evening. To start with I think we'll just do play by post.

While I know some of us would like to do add a visual element with something like photoshop I don't really have that option atm, so we'll just have to do without. I'll still make an effort to keep track of character locations relative to each other in battle so we can keep the fights interesting though.

One final quesiton for you guys before I start making my plot threads and hooks. Do you guys want your characters to already know each other, or would you prefer to be strangers at first?

Maybe like, acquaintances? Like we've sort of gathered up at the tavern and had a couple of fights, enough to judge each other from a first glance, but not well enough to know about the little wierd wacky shit they do in private. :monster:

^^I could see that for your character (half-orc) and Vaan's (human). They're a lot higher up on the "normal races" list. My character (Shade) and Ichimaru's (Renavent) aren't though, in fact they're more on the "problem races" list. As in, most normal people wouldn't want us around because we're undead or sold part of our soul to become part of Shadowfell. I get the feeling that the only reason a sane person would associate with us is if they really had to

Noctis, I'll PM you my back-story either tonight or tomorrow.

We could have it so that both mine and Obsidian Fire's characters know each other already, from wandering the land. Perhaps they've stuck together for the time being as they know nobody else will.
Some chance encounter or circumstance can bring the two of them together with the half-orc and the human. That's just my two cents but I believe it'd fill the requirements quite nicely.

lol I have a Revenant in my irl D&D party and we constantly give him shit for his suggestions, considering most of us are neutral (and we have a Goliath Paladin lolol) and he is basically Evil - but at the same time we don't actually conflict, we just kind of hurl insults back and forth in an affectionately hateful way. :awesome:

edit: And also I entered the party late because the Revenant had actually somehow kidnapped my character and the initial 3-4 man party killed him - making him resurrect later without memory of his past life. It was a pretty awesome ad-libbed encounter, and it actually gives my character a personal reason to dislike the guy lol

Also I do hope our party will be knee-deep in gold what with half of our crew being thieves. :monster:

^^Either that or magic items as my character finds them a tad more useful then hard cash. We probably won't have that much trouble with undead either.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised to see that was the case. I thought Vaan was gonna go for a wizard/fighter hybrid or some such.

Not that I'm against it mind you.

I just realized that Vaan is the only "Good" member of our party. The rest of us are "Unaligned". That should prove interesting.

Alright fellas. As of this moment I am going over character sheets and preparing to start the game. I hope you all are ready for adventure. Or at least a good fight.

Alright, so first off the bat:

GM/Player omniscience. First person or third? irl I think it's normally first person because it's much easier to simply state actions without seemingly narrating ad nauseum, but I think online and writing in text and being descriptive can allow for third person play as well.

Also, I think it's a good time for players here to go over the sorts of things that can and can't be done during conversations (ie. non-encounter) in comparison to how it is done during encounters. We'll all get a hang of the ropes of the essentials as we go along, but I think the Hook of the questline (especially for our first conversations) is as good a time as any to get a feel for our particular Skill Checks and how we can use them.

I prefer first person myself.

In conversations of course you can make use of certain skills like bluff or intimidate depending on what you want to accomplish. Although I should clarify that just saying "I intimidate the guy" won't really fy with me. You'll actually have to say or do something intimidating.

Same goes for other skills.

Anyway yeah, if there be any questions shoot and I shall answer.

I think it's basically a matter of being clear about what exactly is being done. Like, writing "I intimidate the guy" should be alright as long as somewhere near it the player has written "I'll make an Intimidate Check" or something along those lines.

Well, just writing "I intimidate the guy." Is an issue with me mostly for roleplaying purposes. Its just not interesting.

I'd rather see the player do something like announce that their character glares at the guy while saying "I'm not used to being dissapointed this way." Then make the intimidate check.

Purely from a roleplaying perspective its more fun and interesting to flesh it out that way.
