Regarding his future ladyfriend, I think Ubi is pushing this romance a bit. They've talked about Sofia quite a few times. They've never specifically made any reference to any women before, so I'm thinking Sofia chick might be carrying some awesome Altair genes.

I was gonna say maybe the descendant was through Claudia? I mean technically she and Ezio have the same blood but who knows and besides she's not exactly shown very much either. That is probably unlikely.

Which makes me wonder if the Animus could ever glitch out and read the history of another sibling due to the same blood technicality or if there would be people making sure that the correct gene and memory sequences are read.

Nope. The theory comes behind somebody's memories passing down the gene line, so that a child would inherit a parent's memories - though it would pretty much be inaccessible to them.

A child from Claudia couldn't do this because she doesn't have the memories that Ezio does. Even is she were THERE 24/7 watching him, she still wouldn't possess the sensory memory that allows Desmond to 'become' him and learn as he learns.

Also have to remember that as soon as Ezio fathers a child, any memories Ezio has thereafter would not be passed down as he can't continue to transfer genes to an already conceived child.

The logic behind the gene-memory theory is barely stable, but works as a concept. As soon as Ubisoft start fucking with any of that ^ then they have ruined a good thing for the sake of pushing the story further in one aspect.

(And no, it's never mentioned I think, that Ezio isa descendant of Altair. However, the new Revelations trailer shows Ezio 'seeing' Altair the same way that Desmond 'sees' Ezio when he is in the real world. It has also been mentioned in an interview somewhere, to my knowledge, that Ezio can see Altair by accessing his genetic memories. So while it has never been stated that Altair is Ezio's ancestor, I think this IS the case.)

Ahh okay that's right I had forgotten about it having to be completely and utterly direct.

Yeah the latter part you said in the parentheses is true I remember hearing/reading that. So we'll just be sitting and waiting to see who Ezio's kid is at this point and assume it'll be post Revelations? Or well they had mentioned it would be focusing on Desmond too so who knows how late into the game Ezio will have a kid.

And @ that bit about Ezio & Altair having to be related because he sees him. I think the reason it came up that they aren't related is because it was in the newest novel. The novel is approved by Ubisoft, right? So idk what to think.

They'll be keeping in mind about making Altair have an accent.

Altair and Ezio are related to Desmond, but not to each other (Well then.)

Embers follows an older Ezio and he fears someone is after his family. It's recommended to watch Embers after Revelations.

I'm not sure what that could mean though. The books are definitely canon, but points of view make a difference too (history is written by the victor etc). I haven't read any AC books so I have no idea how them two not being directly related to each other works with Ezio being able to see him. How is he accessing the genetic memories then? I know there's a non-Animus thing that's mentioned but I want to know what exactly that is.

Well the two books I read aren't from Desmond's perspective at all. They're just third person about Ezio (but it's a retelling of the game's events, so there wasn't much new information). I haven't read The Secret Crusade yet.

What they're saying is that the books are canon but if there is anything contradictory that the game is the canon version of said event.

It's an animated short that comes included with the game. They released a teaser already and the trailer I think was shown at the panel.

We can assume that Embers is necessary because by the end of Revelations Ezio will have had his children and thus Desmond cannot follow him. Embers would be wrapping up Ezio's life (or at least his story) completely, without the need for it to be told through Desmond's shoes. I like this idea, brings a lot of closure. We started at the beginning of Ezio's life (and what a character he became) so it's only right to see it off.
Liking this even more now. Can't wait to get my hands on these.

atm basically I'm playing through Assassins Creed 2 and if it weren't for all the "DNA MEMORY HURR" bullshittery I'd be convinced it was just a series of stories about all the men throughout history who got sexy scars on their lips and were also coincidentally assassins

I know this isn't an incredibly helpful post to anyone but don't get me wrong I'm sort of loving this series to bits

To be honest I'm finding the Animus' pseudo-science to be its weakest point so far but as a narrative structure it's very neat.
