Avatar: The Last Airbender & Korra (SPOILERS)

Asami and Korra did not really have a friendship to sacrifice yet.
I suppose I would consider his actions immature as in he is inexperienced with having friends (as you said) but I don't consider it immature as in that it is behavior anymore common to children than it is adults. Since plenty adults have sacrificed friendships for lesser reasons.

She could have refused to talk to her or something.

I see it as both, and just because adults do it doesn't make their actions any more mature.

Well after Korra accused her we actually never saw her directly address Korra, Asami was simply pissed off equally with Korra, Lin, and Tenzin.

Oh, I am not arguing that adults who do it are more mature, just that the immaturity is not as...impulsive as a child's. So yes both are immature, but it is not identical immaturity.

I don't view what Mako did as immature. I mean, you have to realize what Korra was doing was very serious. Life changing, even. Even if Asami's father was innocent.

Not to mention this guy also sponsored their team, now Korra is accusing him of a huge crime.

Mako was the one who was wrong about the true motives of Asami's father, yes, but to call him immature doesn't really suit what's going on. I think he was justified.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Personally I think he could have done something else besides give Korra an ultimatum. To me he wasn't even treating her like a friend.

I'm just not a fan of Mako's attitude in general. I can understand why he does it, he feels like she's trampling on Asami's feelings... the same girl he kinda cheated on. And he consistently pulls Korra closer and farther to the point of irritation.

Just for the record I don't think he's a bad guy and I understand the shit that he does. I just feel bored or annoyed whenever he's on screen.

Asami is okay but I feel kind of bored with her, I think she's an incredibly flat character. Which would be okay but everytime I watch her it's like she's half a character and more of a point. Like they wanted to show that feminine character can be competent, the rival love interest is not a bitch, and a rich girl is not spoiled and can handle adversity. Which is admirable but I think they really need to do something with her character.

Oh also fandom's reaction to her is hilarious, I still see fans in tears about how they still hate her and she's a ho for being between Makkora and how they absolutely OMGHATEIT she's probably in the group.

Korra is interesting because I use to get as frustrated and annoyed by her like I was with Mako, but like Mako she's always quick to admit her mistakes. I think the episode where she gets caught and released by Amon made me change my mind about her. I think I just needed her to be taken down a peg and really explore her weak side before I could appreciate how strong her character is. Since then I just really like her, although some hiccups, I like how she's growing and coping with the problems around her.

Bolin is perfect. I feel like both Mako and Bolin were made as fangirl bait on the opposite sides of the spectrum, like Mako is omg he's so strong and handsome, and the big brother, and he broods, omg he's soooo deep because he has a scarf. And Bolin takes the goofy, adorkable, underdog and clumsy but always a great friend Sokka character. And I just happen to like Sokka, so I like Bolin more. I appreciate a butt monkey who never lets life get him down. He also talks animals.

The romance is the worst part of the show. And I'm not trying to be anti-love triangle anti-romance. I like them for the most part in the stories. But I honestly strongly dislike Mako/Korra because it's just as frustrating as Mako and everytime they explore it it just feels annoying (with the exception of the Makkora episode 3- I think). Mako/Asami is boring and flat and feels like fodder for Korra's growth and the eventual breakup. Korra/Bolin's reactions are the best only because he was friendszoned so hard that it's barely thought about. I honestly think any time the romance is brought up, it takes away from all the characters, the stories, and makes everyone 99% more unlikable, except for Bolin because he's the series butt monkey and reacts to grief by declaring his love for his ferret.

That said, the best characters are the side characters. Tenzin, his family, Toph's daughter- they are honestly the most likeable, funny, and watchable. I love how Avatar brings in older characters and makes them a vital part of the story unlike most shows aimed at kids. Tenzin airbending was bad ass.

TLDR: Meelo wins the world. I would watch a show about Meelo. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Well part of the reason Mako was so harsh is because he was friends with Korra, not in spite of it. Mako simply could not understand why one of his dear friends is making a such an unbelievable accusation (that Korra even tries to claim as fact). In Mako's eyes Korra's behavior is unjustifiable and unbecoming of someone he can possibly consider a friend. While Mako was giving an ultimatum, Korra was also trying to claim (as of then) speculation as fact. It is why I still kinda agree with Tennyo that "immature" is not the best descriptor of his actions.

I'm completely disinterested in Mako's character atm. While he did have a somewhat justified reason not to trust Korra's suspicions, the way he went about it was wrong and again came off as a jerkass to me. I agree with Splintered on the romances, I really do not care about them at all which is why I didn't like The Spirit of Competition one bit. Also Bolin is too good of a character to just be a butt monkey.

Yeah, I really do like the fact that both Korra and Mako are quick to admit their mistakes/faults and apologize about them.

But I disagree that Bolin is perfect (in fact it would be terrible if he was a prefect character, it would be impossible to have have him grow as character, in the similar way science abhors perfection because of necessity to always have the unknowable, etc.), it is just that his character faults are adorkable. Bolin's main character growth will be him having to grow up, as his voice actor P.J. Bryne describes Bolin's character faults and future growth:
MTV Geek: Okay, to talk about the show a bit, and in particular... The kiss from two episodes back, between Mako and Korra. Obviously fans freaked out a bit, what was that like for you?

PJB: Oh, I know that kiss! [Laughs] I have a problem with it! I don’t think I’m comfortable with it at all... I didn’t like it! Though it’s really uncomfortable for Bolin, because he loves Korra completely - and like I said before, he’s all in. He’s a little innocent and naive as he goes through life. So naturally he thinks if he likes Korra, Korra likes him, and he told his brother about it. I think that makes it more interesting because he’s more overtly blown away by it. There’s nothing in his body that can fathom that his brother kissed the girl he likes. That just blows him away.
........
MTV Geek: Beyond romantic complications, where do you want Bolin to go by the end of the series?

PJB: He’s still going to go full tilt on life, but as the series goes on, he learns that he grows up, and there’s grey areas in life. You can’t go whole heartedly if there’s going to be repercussions not just for you, but for other people. Bolin’s journey, he’s a teenager who’s at long last growing up to be a man, and the world is a little more complicated, and you can’t look at the world with these rosy glasses all the time. I think it’s a good lesson, and one a lot of people in the world could learn. But at the end of the day though, as dark as the world can get, the super thing about Bolin is, we’re always going to be positive. Even if problems are thrown at us, we’re going to figure out an answer, and, we’re going full tilt, and we’re going to succeed.
I just hope that Bolin having to grow up and becoming less naive does not "ruin" him for some people (there are some weird fans out there who love to "baby" favorite fictional characters).

As for the romance, I personally like it because I think it is well written IMO. But for those who don't....well it is not like we were not warned, Bryke did explicitly say that there would be a "big cheesy teen romance" in the show.

lol, I didn't actually mean he was perfect. I used "perfect" in the tongue and cheek way- kind of like that weird trend that a lot of fans overuse it. I know Bolin's not perfect. He's goofy, lame, and gets in trouble because he has no idea what the fuck he's doing. But he's endearing in his faults. I have yet to actually get irritated at him.

This is where we'll have to agree to disagree or something. I think it's pretty bad, or at least average but brings nothing but the story but fan diversions and brings their characters down with irritating melodrama. I could think of a hundred better ways to develop Asami the first few episodes she got rather than just being the OTHER girl of Mako's affections.

There are only two things I enjoyed from this subplot, the fact that we get to see Kora be at least mature about it afterwards (kind of, the sad puppy dog eyes at Mako I guess are suppose to make me feel bad for Korra, but seeing as I don't care about it I just chose to ignore it). And I felt the resolution to how it really shit on the dynamics on the probending match was cathartic, when they decided that romance wasn't worth the way they were acting towards each other and focused on their friendship.

Ah, I see misunderstood your use there. I think it is because I sometimes do see some fans on tumblr use it in a completely serious way and have that creepy character-worship vibe in their posts.

Eh, no biggie in agreeing to disagree. I personally thought it brought out some very funny character moments and explored their faults well.

Kinda trying to remember to get all this stuff from the "welcome to..." game set up. I just keep never having time to sort it out into it's proper place. >_<
