Am I the only one glad it's a prequel? The first game depicted a story neatly resolved with no need for a continuation.

Given that we knew the heroes had been losing for quite a while by that point, and given that there's a potentially extensive history leading up to it, a prequel is not only more justifiable, but infinitely more relevant from inception.

Agreed. There's a lot more they can do with a prequel, especially considering how many plot points in Dissidia made references to past cycles, like Jecht and Terra.

I'm just glad they decided to incorporate the first game's story as well. I'd like to see how they'd fit the new characters in.

I still don't understand this. They're adding the new characters into the storyline of the first Dissidia? Or is it just a graphics upgrade?

It is a prequel + the first game apparently.

I know. But they're not changing the storyline of the original Dissidia, right? They're just updating the graphics and gameplay. ???

I think what they're doing is having the 012 storyline to start with, including the new characters for it and then evnentually lead into the original story, after losing said characters that were not on the original. Basically, it's like adding a HUGE chunk of story in front of the original. So, if anything they're prettying up the original to make it meld with the 012 story better, thus it's like one big, huge game in itself.

Yeah I think that's bullshit.

You can do just as much with a sequel as a prequel, if not more because you're not restrained by previous events as referenced in the story.

They're playing it safe by retreading the same stupid "story" over again except this time BEFORE its inevitable conclusion.

I am never as interested in prequels as much as sequels because you already know where the story is going to go, the rest is just buildup to it.

How very fucking interesting. But, w/e, I will defend your right to your opinions to the death, regardless of how I feel about it :monster:

I have no clue, so I'm throwing out words, but... I read something about a map and a new world??? Maybe while the last battle between Cosmos and Chaos is happening, the others are out exploring this world, doing whatever??? Anyhow... Speculation.

Without reducing the value of the original, I don't think they could. Why are we supposed to care about the original, and -- by extention -- the sequel when nothing matters no matter how final it supposedly is/was? And how much higher can you keep raising the stakes when the multiverse (perhaps omniverse) was on the line the last time?

It's like the "Infinity" mini-series that Marvel kept pumping out back in the early 90s. "The Infinity Gauntlet" was a pretty awesome idea -- and then we got "The Infinity War." By the time "The Infinity Crusade" rolled around, did you, I, or anyone else still care?

Given their track record in this area in recent history, I think that perhaps going chronologically backwards is the right idea for SE.

I'm usually not as interested either, but the finality of the original made me feel that it was something that shouldn't be touched upon again. Especially given that Dissidia, in its own way, is a prequel to begin with to the first Final Fantasy. It already has an established sequel.

Thanks. :monster: Same to you.

I think what you read was just talking about the new world map that's being implemented in place of the chessboard from last time.

As for the possibility of the others still being around, that would require contradicting opening statements in the original Dissidia. Not that SE has shown themselves to be above that, but at the moment, it seems unlikely.

Gabranth, at the very least, we know must have died.

Something occurs to me. Dissidia, according to Gabranth's storyline he guards this hell-dimension or whatever where losers not needed for the cycles are cast down, while Shantotto is the guardian of a paradise where the victors go. Maybe, if they're remaking the old Dissidia for 012, we'll replay the Distant Glories and see some of the "new" characters in them, based on their fate?

Meh. With a game of this type it doesn't matter what vehicle you provide for the "story" as long as the character interactions and dialogue are good(which I think Dissidia failed at).

Of course I never thought the original was any good in that aspect anyway. That said they could always come up with a new premise, or something completely retarded but goofy fun. They're just not thinking creatively enough.

There's no way they'd put Vaan on the cover scratching his nose.

I hope.
