You're comparing an image from the anime to the ones from the game? In the first game the picture of Dante's mother heavily resembles Trish. She's been described by official material as remarkably resembling his mother. It's canon that she has a heavy resemblance to his mother, which was meant to hinder him.
And they have a good friendship. There's no indication of them sleeping together or anything. Is there even anything in the Devil May Cry marking her space there?Different. I already said trish was playable, but she serves no part in the game at all. She isn't even mentioned.
And they barely flirt at all in DMC4. They joke with each other a little, but there's nothing there indicative of a relationship. The games imply a strong friendship, and that's it. You can interpret that as romantic in the first game, but it's nowhere to be found anywhere else.

Yeah, just because Eva's picture is Anime style, and I thought the Anime Trish looked the most like it. XD And I know she looks like his Mother, I'm just saying they aren't exactly the same. I'm not trying to say she looks nothing like her at all. They are different women. They have different personalities. Dante separates her from his Mother. He treats her like a love interest, is my main argument.
You don't need to sleep with someone to be in love, or to be in a close relationship. No, but Dante did give her something VERY important. I doubt he'd toss that off to just anyone.

He treats her like a friend. If he loved her he would have kissed her when he found out she wasn't dead, as in typical action movie style. He treats her like a very good friend.
I don't deny that they're good friends, and Dante probably felt closer to her because of her appearance, but saying that it's more than that is just messed up.

I for one don't equate joking around with each other as flirting, but obvs over people do, and I can see how other people could considering they're a man and a woman.
If someone looks a shitload like my dead mother, I definitely would think of my mother when I looked at her. It's only natural man.

What?A person's brain automatically associates a person's face, with their name and personality in their memory.
How can you not associate a person with their appearance? That makes no sense. That's a part of who they are and how you recognize them. How do you acknowledge and remember who they are if you don't associate them with their face, when you meet them in person?

I'm a high-functioning autistic dude, my brain doesn't work the way most other people's do. I obviously remember what people look like (though honestly, a lot of the time I don't recognise people until after they've spoken to me if we haven't seen each other in awhile), but I don't really think about it beyond using it as a cue to recognise who they are. One learns to tell two similar-looking people apart after you know them well enough unless they're identical twins or something, and it's pretty easy to learn how to distinguish between personality of two different people even if they're similar looking. So yeah.
Then again Dante's probably not intended to be on the autism spectrum, but still you don't have to be Mensa level to tell that just because two people look similar doesn't mean they'll be similar in all other respects. Just because someone looks like your mother doesn't mean you'll associate them with your mother every time you look at them.

But that ain't what you said. You said you don't really associate people with their appearances, but you do. That statement isn't that clear.
Obviously, if someone looks almost exactly like another person that's important to you, you're likely to mistake that person for the person you already know, or think of that person when you see them. That's just the nature of visual cues and how they work in the mind.

I don't associate people's personalities with their appearances. I don't assume that because two people look similar they're similar in all other aspects. And if you're familiar enough with someone to be romantically involved with them then you'll be able to distinguish them from someone else who's been in your life since you were born, especially if they have different fashion senses and shit. And thus be able to avoid mistaking them for one another.

And that's still irrelevant. It doesn't matter if you're familiar with them, if a person is almost a twin of another one, her appearance will remind you of that person. It doesn't mean you'll mistake them for one another, you'll just think of them. And no one's saying looks alike=equals the same person.

Yeah, and I clearly said I don't see it as flirting. I used that word only because I can see how other people would. It might come off as a contradiction to you, but it's merely a small compromise.
I don't think they flirted, already said I saw it as just them joking around. You're trying make a point out of nothing. And I've already said they pretty much look exactly alike, time and again. The games and official material make a point of that.
The resemblance is clearly enough to make the guy think of his mother, and they showed us that in the game itself.

I don't think that there is really any way you can dispute that if Dante is banging Trish, then he's acting out some kind of repressed, oedipal impluse. That was actually the one things that sort of bugged me about the first game, but whatever, they seem to have a relationship that works whether it be romantic or strictly business.
Relationships cool off, too. That's the impression I got from 4.
I'll get sharp rocks thrown at me for saying this, but IMO Dante flirts more with Nero in DMC4. In fact their fighting was nothing but.

Sorry Celeschere but I have to agree with Dacon, It's entirely creepy to pair Dante with a lookalike of his mother.
Conversely though it is creepy doesn't mean that CAPCOM didn't pair them together.
I have all the Devil May Cry OST's on my pc and the music to the scene where Dante and Trish escape on the helicopter in dmc1 is called "Seeds of love". Let's pray this love is a friendly one.
I'm starting to think that CAPCOM has a slight incest fetish. In dmc4 for example we know Nero and Kyrie are in love. There's too much proof to argue against it.
Now what creeps me out in their relationship is that in Kyrie's official character description states "...their relationship can resemble that of brother, friend and lover all in love."
...Seriously what the hell. You DO NOT fall in love with some one who you consider a brother a lover at the same time. It's sick.
