I mostly just assumed it’s been relatively successful since it’s continued to get major updates/support/seasons/etc. And just general passive buzz I seem to see about it.

I seriously doubt Gackt's Instagram posting old clips of him performing as G is cross marketing for this. He posts clips of himself all the time, including him as G. If you're always looking for hints about Genesis, EVERYTHING is Genesis. It's like the number 23. 
But I do think we're in for a substantive reveal. Definitely Ever Crisis and... You know. This really mirrors the Kingdom Hearts anniversary event.
Kinda badass how S-E swooped in after the uneventful summer games fest and yelled, "SAVE THE DATE" and everyone got hyped.

Yeah I heard he's recovering but that's definitely not him saying he's working again or doing anything at all. He's still recuperating. If he were tied to any of this, he'd have had to have started working on this with SE over a year ago.

I'm going to put it out there, like folks did with the KH4 trailer. This is what I think a teaser trailer will show us.
A shot of the Midgar wasteland leading to Kalm, showcasing the environment, maybe with some words from Aerith.
We'll get Cloud (or Sephiroth) narrating the Nibelheim flashback, either stating what their assignment was, then Cloud stating how that week changed his life forever.
Clips of the truck driving scene, a cute naive Cloud, and a past Sephiroth. The dragon fight scene. Then flames.
Cutaway to the gang discussing how Sephiroth's the greatest threat out there but they gotta keep moving because Shinra aren't just going to be after Sephiroth, they'll be hunted too.
Then clips of them on Chocobo back, maybe we'll see the Chocobo Farm. After that, clip of Yuffie meeting the party and her introduction to them after Episode Intermission. Cute, funny stuff. They'll notice she's a ninja, of Wutai origin. That'll be commented on. And after maybe some comedic back and forth over materia, they'll join up to fight some Shinra forces that have been trailing them.
Some clips showcasing the new battle system, link attacks and environments. Clips of the Turks working together to track AVALANCHE down. I think we'll be introduced to Elena.
Then some hinting at Cloud's mental instability. Seeing hallucinations. Past flashbacks. Aerith and Tifa noticing Cloud pushing himself. And Cloud says something that causes Aerith to blink and have a brief vision of Zack superimposed over Cloud. Maybe from behind. Lined up with the Buster Sword.
And then Sephiroth asking Cloud if he'll be attending the Reunion, where Jenova will become a calamity from the skies. And it ominously states everything he knows and thinks, is an illusion.
Overall, I think for sure we're going to be teased with the Nibelheim flashback, and the party meeting Yuffie. Like, the timing of this landing right after Intermission's 1 year anniversary seems too intentional and synergistic for that to be brushed over.
And I think they'll want to show they've been working to create a vastly different outdoor setting compared to Part 1.
Everything else may be hit or miss but I definitely think we'll see those two things. And a hint at Cloud's mental issues along with hints of Aerith and Tifa's knowledge that Cloud has gaps in his memory.
