The 12-issue miniseries will launch next year to coincide with the science fiction show’s 50th anniversary.

Written by Doctor Who/Star Trek scribes David and Scott Tipton, the title features artwork by Simon Fraser and cover designs by Francesco Francavilla.

Each issue will focus on a past incarnation of the Doctor and his respective companion, with the first chapter featuring William Hartnell’s likeness and his assistant Barbara.

It is yet to be confirmed whether issue #12 will introduce a new version of the Doctor or feature one or more of the past incarnations.

Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time Number 1 is released in January 2013.

So either way, my roommate and I are already almost half way through season 6. Somehow the pacing of the Moffat era has really quickened. I will say this, I feel like so much more is packed into each episode, and it all flows rather nicely. I'll give him credit for that. We didn't even realize we were nearing the end of season 5 when suddenly Netflix alerted us that the next episode was the start of 6. We were all, "Huh? Really?"

Yet at the same time, I just feel like there's something off. I actually don't feel like I have gotten over the Tenth doctor yet. Like, at all (totally just went and watched the ending of "End of Time" twice again and was a sobbing, hysterical mess).

Spoiler: Thoughts on regeneration

I really really wish that Ten had had a happier send off. Why did Davies decided he needed to treat Ten's regeneration like an actual death? Why did Ten have to be alone and scared when it happened? I just fell in love with him so much, I really feel like he deserved so much better than what he got.

I mean, when Nine regenerated he faced it with courage and went out with a smile on his face. He also had the woman he loved with him when it happened, so he wasn't lonely. But poor Ten. All alone, probably thinking he may never see most of his friends again, in pain, and terrified of the person he is about to become. When he first started off back in season 2, he had to convince Rose that even though he changed his face, he was still the same person. But here we have him saying how regeneration is like dying, and he'll just be dead while a new man saunters off with his identity. It doesn't make sense, and it's really heart breaking to think of regeneration in such a way. I can't bare the thought of Ten just being dead and forgotten with no one to mourn him, just as I wouldn't be able to stand thinking about Nine in such a manner, either. Eleven needs to be the same person with just a new face. Granted, maybe a new personality quirk, but he's still the same man, right?

I also feel like characters such as the Master and River treat regeneration like it's really no big deal at all. I mean when the Master opened the fob watch back in season 3, and then was shot and had to regenerate, he seemed to think that it was great, because he'd be getting a new body to run around in that was younger, but he'd still be him. Then there's also the fact that, as far as River is concerned, the Doctor is the Doctor is the Doctor, regardless of his face. So why was Ten so scared when his time came? It really broke my heart to see him like that.

But there's so much more than that, though. I actually do wish that David Tennant had decided to stick around for at least one more season, not just because I think he is the best Doctor, but mainly because

the show seems so different now that it would have been nice to have a bit more of a bridge to help cross from the Russell T. Davies era into the Steven Moffat era. I didn't have too much of an issue in seeing Ten and Nine as the same character and being interchangeable, because so much else about the show stayed the same. But with the regeneration of Ten, not only do we get a new Doctor, we also get pretty much a brand new cast, a new sonic screwdriver, AND most of all, the TARDIS gets redesigned and is actually rather ugly on the inside now. I really do hate the new TARDIS. And the new opening credits.

But I think most of all, I'm going to miss the cast. Not just Nine and Ten, but also Rose, Jackie, Mickey, Captain Jack, Martha, Donna, Wilfred, Donna's mother, even Harriet Jones! They are all gone now. All gone, and none of them even know that the Doctor has regenerated again. It doesn't seem like Moffat has any intention of bringing any of them back (granted, I know Harriet Jones can't come back, but still), and it actually makes me really sad to think about that. Russell T. Davies built up such a great supporting cast, I really wish they could still be there.

I mean, doesn't the Doctor still have Martha's cell phone? Couldn't she still call Eleven if she wanted to? She'd be surprised, I'm sure, but since she works for (or used to work for, rather) UNIT I'm sure she's read the Doctor's bio and understands the concept of regeneration by now. If not, Mickey could explain it to her. Or Jack, if he were to come back.

I know last night when we watched "The Doctor's Wife," I cried out for joy when

they all found themselves in the old TARDIS control room that Nine and Ten used. Oh how I wish it was still in use.

The TARDIS has gone through many different variations. Possibly because the first Doctor Who story I saw was a Jon Pertwee one (where the Doctor was barred from using the TARDIS by the Time Lords), the version of the TARDIS set I fell in love with was the movie set (a huge Victorian-esque steampunk-type affair).

But yes, the whole thing about another man walking away with his life was weird. Especially the "I don't want to go" bit, as no-one was forcing either Tennant or Davies to go, both had decided they'd done enough with the character for now.

The only thing I can think of with the regeneration is the whole "Dark Doctor" thing; Nine was boisterous and cynical, but that seemed to be enough to keep him going. Ten -- chipper, happy chappy. But then suddenly, Time Lord Victorious. Happy to stand and watch the Racnoss burn. Handy and his oh-so-quick "kill 'em all" reaction to the Daleks and Davros. Lots of pent up anger there.

The Doctor has a history of this (the first serial ever had him poised to kill an injured caveman because he was slowing them down). Plus, The Ultimate Foe in Trial of a Time Lord. The darkness between the Doctor's twelfth and final incarnations. Seen again in the person of "the Dream Lord".

Not to give too much away, but in one episode of season six,

several characters have to face their greatest fear. We never see the Doctor's but fanon holds that it is a version of himself. "Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many."

The doctor has ALWAYS had the woman he loves with him when he regenerates. Except for 8, and he was in a Morgue at the time. We presume Sexy was with him when 8 became 9.
Put another way, I reject your shipping because Shipping the doctor with companions other than Romana as if it were a serious thing just feels wrong to me.

Can I just say, though, that, seeing the last one and thinking of it, "Let's Kill Hitler" was a really, really weird episode?

It was, however, hilarious in a few spots, most notably

When Rory punches Hitler, and a bit later when the Doctor was just like, "Rory, put Hitler in the cupboard" all nonchalant like. Like, he was exasperated had other, more important things on his mind than the worst war criminal in Earth's history.
