Evangelion 3.0 coming in fall 2012

I get the impression that, since we already know Shinji's background, they don't really explain it that much because of time constraints. We are to assume it.

That's why I'll always love the original series more than Rebuild, despite the great eyecandy. And the fact the movies are setting themselves up to be original material and not just a remake. But in my eyes, they're still complements to the original. You can't really get them properly without having watched the original beforehand,

Of course, with this being Evangelion, they could be throwing in false hints...

Personally, I do think it's a sequel, but if it's not, I won't be entirely surprised. It's Anno after all.

I don't think it's hinting the the Rebuild films are supposed to be viewed as direct sequels to the original series but more of a cyclical reincarnation of the same story.

That's sort of the same thing, though, isn't it? Being a subsequent cycle, it's a sequel to the previous.

Ehhh, I don't know, to me at least, the term direct sequel implies these are the exact same characters in the same timeline/universe, while cyclical reincarnation implies a restarted universe/timeline (that can be affected by previous cycles, as Kaworu's dialogue implies).

Well, this is the whole deal with Evangelion is that EoE directly involves restarting the universe. Rebuild just looks like everything reset, but with the artifacts from what'd already happened still intact:

- The 2nd impact from Rebuild is the 3rd impact from Evangelion
- Rei's blood splatter is still visible on the Moon
- The outline of the bodies of the Mass Production Evas are marked out

Rebuild is both a direct sequel as well as a restarted timeline, hence the symbol for the 4th film being :||
(the musical repeat symbol).

I don't don't think the Rebuild films are implying that their 2nd impact is the same as 3rd impact from EoE. I think those are more shout outs than trying to say these events are directly following up. EoE didn't actually reset any timeline it just turned all people into orange tang (with the ability/option to revert back to physical forms) and sent Unit 01 into space.

The symbol for the final movie is the barline indicating the end of a movement. The colon is not part of that imo. Every Japanese title so far was "title" "colon" "subtitle", same here.

I agree the Rebuild films have the thematic connection of repetition in them but I don't think that means the 4th film is going to be directly referencing to the plot points of the show as part of its resolution.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ambiguity of the double bar line/repeat symbol in the logo was intentional. :monster:

I think all the allusions to EoE are pretty neat, and I kind of hope they do add up to something in 4.0. On the other hand, I dunno how I feel about Rebuild making the everything into a straight-up loop because I'm not sure I want anything to replace EoE as the actual conclusion to the story.

Now they can feel justice and know what to do rather than mope and wallow in self pity. Other than Solid Snake, Optimus Prime or Captain America would have been fine warrior therapists for these angsty teens to help them get their mission and psyche sorted.

Because
I've never really liked Transformers too much. Although the toys were fun as a kid, actually :) .

OT: I've been re-watching the whole of Evangelion. TV series first, and when I'm done I'll move on to the original movies and then Rebuild.

Compilation movie? :awesome: If it's implying a loop, I liked the repeat symbol better.

Anno sure loves being cryptic :monster:. Although this doesn't top the piano trailer.

Maybe it's a side-quel to fill in the gaps between 2.22 and 3.33? (like the content that was originally previewed at the end of 2.22)

^Probably not but dear god it would be needed. :monster:

I don't expect that 4.0 will be able to resolve the clusterfuck they introduced in 3.0 =/
