God, how can that girl claim that Aerith and Cloud have a similar personality, HOW? Cloud is so similar to Tifa it hurts, and the fact is they both open up to Aerith because she's easy like that, but that doesn't mean that Cloud is like Aerith - he's so far away from that! And her view about their future is uh... the only problem they had was related to his guilt/depression in AC/C, otherwise they'll be just fine.

Daytona's interesting.

She's very much a Clerith shipper but she's critical of the shipping community.

She also thinks Cloud and Tifa are the love of each other's lives and ended up together but thinks the most interesting thing that Nojima did in OTWTAS is showcase how miserable Cloud was being Tifa's boyfriend because they want different things

But...if they were sexually mature cats...you wouldn't have to lock them up, they would just mate anyway. That's why you have to get them fixed even if you just have a litter of siblings. Animals don't really care about incest. And unless the cats were already inbred, I find it highly unlikely that a single incestual pairing would have produced an entirely deformed litter.
Unless we're just saying the horror of the story is the locking up part. Which, sure, but she didn't say how long it actually took. Also also, if the cats were mating you probably wouldn't hear "thumping," you'd hear awful yowling. Methinks this woman was just dumb, lol.

Yeah, I am not a fan of how that is. Why can't Cloud and Tifa find happiness? They so deserve to be happy with each other and their family that they have created.

Aight... re: a little story about Pokemon Gold/Silver... and Gold Chocobos

A few years ago I worked at my first "grown up" job, which was this shady call center that seemed to exclusively employ weirdos - not discluding myself from this, mind. I was one of those weirdos, but the girl I sat beside was... something. I'm gonna call her "A" for clarity's sake.

First off, this is Western Canada and this girl looked like a character out of Jersey Shore. In 2014. This is the type of person who would dress up as a sexy Thing # 1 for Halloween, but instead of getting an orange outfit, she was committed to tanning herself to a bright orange for the sake of the costume. "Aren't you afraid of skin cancer?" I would ask. She gave no fucks. "A" was hilarious and very chatty, so I became friends with her quite quickly. We were both on different ends of the spectrum of messes who may or may not have done one too many party drugs. It was great! I had a blast working with her.

Anyway one day I was talking to a different coworker about the latest Pokemon game, as we would bring our 3DSes to work every so often. "A" kinda scooched on over and asked if we were talking about Pokemon. She never really expressed any interest in video games, but everyone likes Pokemon, so I asked her if she was playing it as well. She said no, but she really liked Gold/Silver for the Gameboy colour. I said cool, that one was my favourite as a kid, and inquired as to whether she had any particular favourites that stood out. She then casually launches into a story about her favourite Pokemon, Ditto.

A: Remember how you could put anything in the daycare with ditto, and it would make a baby?
Me: yeah! that was always so funny cuz Ditto can turn into anything!
A: Yeah, right! When I was a kid I tried to do that with my cats!
Me: Hahaha yeah, the weird shit we think we can pull off when we're kids hey
A: Oh no, it worked
Me: ...wha?
A: Yeah I locked them in my closet... they scratched at the door for a bit, but I left them in there until I heard thumping
Me: ................................
A: It was a brother and sister cat though, so the entire litter turned out r*t*rded. They were so cute though! We kept one that had 3 legs. Wanna see!?
Me: -laughing nervously- h-how old were you when this happened?
A: I was 10! My mom was so mad at me about it.

She then laughed and proceeded to clack her fake-nails away on her keyboard, as if that was a totally normal thing to drop on someone. The guy on the other side of me was speechless. "A" wasn't really the type to fuck with people for a joke. She did have a cat with three legs, as there were photos to corroborate. If it was real... that is some serial killer shit if I ever heard it.

Ummm... Wow

Part of the appeal of Cloud and Tifa for me personally is that their relationship is portrayed more "realistically" in comparison to other FF couples. Rarely do you see what happens after "happily ever after." There is no couple on god's green earth that doesn't argue or fight, so Cloud and Tifa having a rough time for a little bit (Cloud left for maybe 2 weeks, max) doesn't mean their relationship is unhealthy, just that it's normal.

That said, I do wish they gave us more of the "good times," simply because many misconceptions about their relationship came about because everyone was so depressed in that movie.

I don't care if that happened or not (well, I hope it didn't happen because poor cats, that would make Wedge cry), the story is so fucked up it's awesome.

This, I really wish Case of Tifa was made into an anime or something, anything, because really, people either don't know that it exists or simply miss the clues because it's not visual but a novella. Like when Tifa asks Cloud if he loves her, they simply don't see that they share the same bed *shakes head*

And for what it's worth, Nojima did say that if Cloud and Aerith had ended up together, it wouldn't be sunshines either. That man has his feet on the ground, and in his pairing he sure puts a lot of grounded thoughts, and his own views about love and marriage.

@Final_Heaven thanks for sharing the links to the quotes. It's interesting to see the perspectives of someone neutral and encouraging that they too see that the developers seem to be moving towards CloTi.

Even in real life, soulmates can want different things in diferrent moments of their lives. Conflicts are part of a real relationship and I'm glad she's sensible enough to acknowledge that Cloud and Tifa are the love of each other's lives.

Misconstructing characters like that just kill me (-_- ) Cloud wasn't miserable, he was at his happiest, until Geostigma kicked in and he thought he and their adopted son were going to die.

It's interesting that people look at Cloud being moody in AC and immediately thinks it's because he's in a bad relationship. In AC, the world was almost destroyed just a few years back and there is an ongoing "Geostigma pandemic", plus all that trauma / guilt of seeing close friends die (Aerith +Zack) and fighting one of the greatest villains ever. I'd be pretty depressed too in that situation.

If anything, the fact that he chose to try and build a family with Tifa is probably a truer love than any show of passion and affection, considering the context and the state of that world. I'm probably reading all these from the bias of my own lens towards relationships and love but I don't think that a happy ending (as much as I want one for them) is the epitome of love. It's going through hardships together that really proves what love is.

But in terms of fanservice, KISS already for goodness sake!

I legit once read a bizarre interpretation of that scene, something along the lines of Tifa being a creeper who went to Cloud's bedroom unannounced while he was sleeping, stood by his bedside and then popped the question. All this happening while Cloud continues to sleep, because the proponent of such theoretical approach to that scene was so averse of the idea of Cloud and Tifa sharing a room, much more with them sharing a bed. That's disregarding the fact that Cloud is a light sleeper who would've woken up at the first sound of unwelcome intrusion from his bedroom door, but no... Cloud actually continues to sleep without having woken up from Tifa's supposed intrusion. Add the fact that when Cloud did wake up he wasn't even the slightest bit surprised at Tifa's presence, indicating that Tufa was right beside him the whole time, and thus further implying that the two of them share a bed.

I don't understand how anyone in good faith could support an interpretation of creeper Tifa without insulting her character. It's really so bizarre.

Huh. That's true. Remake does say that Cloud is a very light sleeper.

So that does hurt the theory that she walked into the room rather than being asleep beside him.

He wakes at her talking to him not at her walking in.

That's because, it's not done in good faith. People who do this either hate Tifa, or the idea of cloti. So they fight against the narrative, which makes their argument well... full of shit.

They think Case of Tifa displays Cloud's unhappiness. But that's not true. Case of Tifa displays Tifa's own insecurities as Cloud fears more and more to lose her and the kids. Cloud has already lost his mother, his hometown, Zack and Aerith. The mere idea of losing the only important beloved ones who are left send him into depression, which causes him to close off and Tifa to fear to lose *him*. All of this gets resolved in AC:C, where Cloud gets healed by Aerith (thanks sweetie <3) and gets out of his depression to not fall back in anymore.

I felt like the Remake added more dimensions to Cloud's character and portrayed Cloud in a more expressive manner. Certainly more caring and receptive towards Tifa. Considering that FF7 Remake is not just a remake of the OG but also includes the compilation of FF7, do you think we might be able to see a remake of some of the stories within FF7 with a more caring Cloud? If he's able to show this much concern to Tifa now, I don't think it's that far fetched to think that he would show more affection in later parts of the story. I'm also thinking that perhaps this LTD might subside with the inclusion of Zack.

On a side note, I came across this Spanish poll on favorite FF7 couples. Cloud + Aerith is winning by a landslide. I don't concern myself much with such polls, it's not even statistically significant but if you wish to support in CloTi in good faith, here is the link: https://www.strawpoll.me/20186329/r

As Eerie said, interpretations like that aren't done in good faith. The ones who do it aren't interested in looking at the story and the characters; they're there to elevate their ship above all else. Tifa can't be seen by them as any kind of person; she's just reduced to the obstacle to their ship who must be removed at all costs.

Yeah, Nomura specifies that what's making Cloud unhappy is that Tifa and the kids are making him too happy and that he feels like he doesn't deserve it

I think OTWTOAS and Advent Children was Nojima's first try at writing these characters with a sense of expressiveness and realism that isn't there in the OG.

And Remake's characterization is an evolution of Nojima's writing

I think that is what is so frustrating about the entire thing. If you actually payed attention to the story there is no way to misinterpret it unless you are intentionally ignoring the facts because it doesn't fit your narrative that they have built in their heads. It is ireally strange that other people dont want to admit that Cloud is happy. Or sleeps in the same room and bed as Tifa. Besides dont they both have rings on their fingers? What more proof do you need.

Hi guys. Hope it's okay to share some Cloti-related things with you.
Sakurai Takahiro (who voices Cloud) left a message about his history with FF7, how his 13 year old self geeked out to this game, and he reflects on how Tifa stole his heart, and how she has the kind of personality he really likes. Thought it was cute.
