FF 25th Anniversary Memorial Ultimanias

So these were the pictures people were talking about in chat earlier, and I was thinking to myself "wtf are they talking about?" All is clear now :awesome:. I love these sorts of things. Early conceptual stuff. Makes me think they should do another non-realistic manga-esque FF game.

I think it's the age she was at the time Hojo captured her (or maybe during Gast's first recorded interview with her). But, yeah, it's probably her age, as Priscilla's sketch plainly says "Age 13."

Also, Cloud's mom's sketch says "33," while Tifa's dad's says "40." I assume that's at time of death for them, though.

33-16 = 17

Cloud's mom is a teenage mother hmmm nice tidbit :D

Whoa, so Cloud's mom was really young and Aerith's? That's interesting. I always assumed them all being young anyways, but wowie! Thanks for posting these for us to see! I especially love all this art porn.

Posted some more translations over in the LTD thread, in case anyone would be interested but doesn't usually look there:

http://thelifestream.net/forums/showpost.php?p=486671&postcount=3967

So, I'm at the stage now where I'm taking requests if folks have particular things they would like me to look for or know of something already they would like me to translate.

I would like to get enough material together for a proper frontpage post. I don't quite feel I have that yet.

Okay, I've got five posts, and I've uploaded all the new art found in the 25th Anniversary Ultimanias up to FFIV to the FFwiki. I think the easiest way to show everything I've scanned is to link to my wiki upload history, which has a nice long list of all the images I've uploaded with the most recent first.

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Special:ListFiles/Espritduo

Everything from the Warring Triad up is 25th Anniversary scans (and everything before that is still pretty rare artwork/images, so there's probably some interesting stuff all the way back). I'll be an uploading fool for the next week, so keep checking back!

Amazing. Thanks for sharing all that!

I didn't realize the concept art for the DS version of III would be in there. I love Yoshida's art.

The Nomura stuff for FFVI is also gorgeous.

Glad you're online, Splint. I wanted to tell you that, in addition to "Zack Fair," "Reeve Tuesti" and the FFVII 10th Anniversary logo, the introduction page to FFVII does mention that the game had a sequel with Advent Children, and that it was part of the wider Compilation of FFVII.

That's all the acknowledgement the Compilation gets, though.

That's sad considering how a lot of the compilation could use some tightening up the belt when it comes to story and clarification, but I suppose that it's better because they get to stuff so much in the book. Thanks for checking tho, I appreciate it.

I'm leafing through the IX concept art Espritduo posted and I freaking love it, it's so detailed and it looks pretty much exactly like in the game. The game is beautiful architecturally.

I can take a closer look at that later for you, if you'd like, but I believe that whole box was just talking about the different renders/designs/presentations of Cloud in the game. It's not actually discussing the promise or the scene itself.

Thanks so much Tres, I really like that stuff. It's fun seeing what people like Shera's hair is actually supposed to be doing in the lego graphics. :monster: I also like the more-detailed-but-still-super-deformed art of characters.

And holy crap that chocobo Squall's riding is HUGE.

No rush! :D But if there's anything about the promise please translate! If there is...

Here's that bit from Cloud's profile. As I thought, it was just about the drawn designs pictured above the screenshots:

----
Boyhood Cloud appears during Cloud and Tifa's flashback scene. There are 2 patterns, at 8 and 13 years old, with slight differences between them in his hairstyle and the colors of his clothes.

少年時代のクラウドは、ティファやクラウドの回想シーンに登場。8歳と13歳の2パータンがあり、服の色と髪型がわずかにちがう。

I was working through scanning all the FFV stuff, and I have a couple scans I was curious about. There's a page talking about unused prototype characters for FFII that features a moogle (which didn't appear until FFIII!), and I was curious what it said about the moogle (who's name is apparently Cry On? Crayon?). There also appears to be a werewolf (Lone Wolf prototype?), masked man, and a caveman (prototype of the caveman from Secret of Mana?) and I'm kinda curious what's going on with them.

Also, I have an image of early sketches of the various jobs of FFIII, with a few unsued ones like Mage Knight, White Sage, Black Sage, and what apparently is... a Peeing Man job class? The blurb talks about it, but it would take me a long time to translate it all. I can do single sentences fine, but entire paragraphs or pages can take me an entire day to translate.

By the way Tres, where's that art of NORG you mentioned?

And it's nice to finally know what Sierra is supposed to look like. Before the art was released, all we had to go off of was her blocky character model.

The 'manneken pis' thing was an idea for when the characters were petrified, they would turn into that form.

The prototype races are:

Cryon - Like a large two-legged bat covered in white fur. Found in cold places with lots of ice. A nomadic race who work in groups called milds/meluds.
Once every three years they go to the edge of the frozen lands to trade, marry, and fish. This land is sacred to them.

Lyubine - sometimes trade with humans, hate the werewolfs. Lots of silver weapons. Each elder has a tribe. They are travelling farmers so build wooden huts where they settle. There is a bonfire used for meetings in the centre with huts surrounding it.

Cinidician - live underground the lost city in the desert. They have hair white as bone, and wear colourful masks fashioned like birds and animals. Have the infra-vision ability. They have forgotten the existence of the outside world.

Shalgag - have brown hair and beards. Something to do with a curse somewhere in a forest when it declines/is deserted and the land becoming barren for 7 years? They travel from tree to tree.

Cryon sprite was edited to make the Giant Beaver, and the Cinidician sprite was used for the aboriginal people of the southern islands.

Names all stuff I just made up looking at them while tired and about to sleep, also some bits were fuzzy to read and I can be bother straining much now. Also, interesting that the proto-moogles share a name with one of Sakaguchi's Mistwalker games that was cancelled.

C'mon Tres, I saw you thank my poast, now let's see some NORG!

By the way, does any one else think NORG sounds like a name they'd give to one of the background aliens on Star Wars?

There's a couple more references to the Compilation after all. :monster:

First, in Red's profile, under the sketch of him and the cub from the ending:

----
Red XIII appears in the ending 500 years later, galloping across the landscape and now grown into the spitting image of Seto. The two cubs with him seem to be his children with Dinne, his girlfriend who appeared in the Compilation title, 'Before Crisis -FFVII-.'

Also, from the portion of Vincent's profile with the designs of his Limit Breaks:

----
For his Limit Breaks, Vincent transforms into 4 different types of monsters he was implanted with elements of as Hojo's experiment. The most powerful form, Chaos, is later revealed to be a "being who harvests all life on the planet" in the related work, 'Dirge of Cerberus -FFVII-.'
