this might be an unpopular opinion but i honestly am torned about having a novella for the turks(the latest 'the kids are alright' does not count in my book). while i do want to know more about them (and Rufus) and their intentions, i also don't want to know because i like the ambiguity surrounding them. it's mysterious and it makes them a lot more interesting but i'm also open to having one. D:

but didn't we already have a game for the turks? it's called before crisis, right? :D

I get your point, but I can't help but feel that they're shunned to being plot devices when they're one of the best things about the whole compilation. Shunned, yet SE manages to rape their characters. An installment about them doesn't necessarily have to be as detailed to get rid of the mystery of their characters. I'd personally prefer if it was short, just a shot to redeem them and show that they're still the tough, ruthless group that they are.

The Kids Are Alright seems to be a good novel so far for me (haven't finished it yet). I'm just disappointed that it's mostly about that Evan guy than being about the Turks when the title implies otherwise. :offended:

And BC is like a big "FUCK YOU" from SE to non-Japanese speaking Turk fans.

LOL the bolded part is also part of the reason why i don't want one. i'm afraid SE might ruin them more. xDDD

well, i can compromise with this, provided SE won't fuck it up. :awesome:

which is why i don't count it as a turk novella.

Rufus is like one of my favorites and to see him acting totally noble in AC? Whaaat I think the explosion just messed up his brain a little. Maybe that is the explanation. :awesome: And I really was not expecting it to be him before AC came out because I totally thought he was dead so brava on that SE. XD

But yeah I guess Crisis Core sort of showed that not all people in Shinra are bad people, and showed the kind hearted side of Tseng and Cissnei and the others. But CC kind of fucks with the OG version of the Turks/Shinra too? Like Tseng seems like a pretty nice guy in CC and then suddenly four years pass and he's totally stone cold. WHAT HAPPENED DURING THIS TIME I wish they'd let us know.
I want to know where Cissnei and Kunsel went, and what made everyone turn so ruthless. Maybe it's just poor writing//inconsistency but damn it would be cool if there was a story behind it all.

Which is highly unlikely, and also bothers me. Redeem the Turks my ass. SE will just rape them some moar for sure. I'm crazy for suggesting that but still hoping that it would happen and it won't suck :loopy:

Amen to this post.

This is why I think headcanon is necessary. I just like to think of Rufus as the magnificent asshole that he is, and puts on this act of being repentant to get to his true goals. I'm glad that in ACC he himself was keeping Jenova's head under Kadaj's nose, at least to me it's considered as a classic Rufus Shinra assholean behavior. And that between CC and the OG Tseng realizes that he cares for Aerith and tries to mask it with his coldness, which affected his overall behavior.

In my ideal headcanon/alternate universe, all the BC Turks were executed for working against the Shinra company. The point of the "good" Before Crisis game that never saw the light of day was to save as many people as you could from Shinra's wrongdoings. The more people you saved, the less bitter and more meaningful the ending would be when all the remaining BC Turks are shot down.

Yeah I feel like Cissnei was killed for assisting in Zack's escape and I feel like Kunsel was probably killed too for trying to help Zack out as well or something like that. Kunsel is such a minor character but they made him seem like such an awesome dude through his text messages. ='( They should have done more with his character.

Hmm then what made Tseng stick with ShinRa after they murdered Zack and the others? It makes one wonder

...None of the BC Turks are really dead though. They survive. In fact, they're the ones that help Tseng and Rufus evacuate Midgar, and then look after Rufus when he contracts Geostigma.

Tseng stuck around because he cares cause he's just loyal to the Turks and to essentially keep watching over Aerith in a way.

All this is known to me. I just wish it was not so. :monster:

I don't think it's difficult to understand what happened to him. He was a loyal friend to Aerith for years, and went out of his way to help Zack for her sake. Then she turns around and joins forces with Avalanche. We, the player, know - or assume - that they are fundamentally good people, but they have just blown up two reactors and killed a lot of people both directly and indirectly. Judging from Barret's rather unbalanced behaviour, and Cloud's arrogant indifference, we could be forgiven for wondering if these guys weren't actually the bad guys, and in fact I'd say the only reason we know they are the good guys is because they are our playable characters. We don't need to add BC into the mix to make my argument valid, but if we did, you have to remember that from Tseng's POV Avalanche is an organisation that recently tried to annihilate the entire world in order to save it from Shinra. And now Aerith, the "magnificence existence" of Tseng's imagination, has thrown her lot in with these terrorists. How would you expect him to react?

(What surprises me is that Aerith didn't lie to him. "Oh Tseng, thank goodness you've found me! I was kidnapped by terrorists; they made me to go to Don Corneo's mansion! They stole this poor little girl, too. They've been forcing her to work behind a bar! But we managed to escape. I'm taking her to my mom's house. Won't you help us get there safely?")

2 things

1. I have often wondered how far a game (initially) promoting terrorism as a solution to the bigger world problem would get in today's world climate. Perhaps this has influenced the decision of a remake. Feel free to point out glaring examples that disprove this as I'm nowhere near up to date on recent games.

2. I think Tseng is a huge advocate of seeing the bigger picture. He knows his employers are bastards and often shows decision making that allows others to fight their fight without compromising the Turks or Shinra's goals. At no point during FF7 do AVALANCHE directly oppose the Turks' plans after AVALANCHE leave Midgar.

2.

KULT OF KERMITU
This is probably stretching things, but as Shinra leads to Rufus, so does Rikku lead to Cid, Tida and Yuna lead to Cloud, Wakka and Lulu lead to Tifa, etc.

Well on the other side is that Cid Highwind's dad is Kain highwind who just jumped there one day.

I see I'm not the only one who likes to think that Cid's dad's name is Kain and that he is a descendant of FFX Cid, and that Cloud is a descendent of Tidus and Yuna and Tifa is a descendant of Wakka and Lulu.

Wow I've almost forgotten about this thread, thanks for resurrecting it :D

I've been reading a lot of fanfics lately and I've absorbed this common headcanon of Cloud being born out of wedlock and unacknowledged by his father, which led to the townsfolk shunning him even before the bridge incident.

His father 'dying' as he narrated in his flashback is just an explanation his mother gave him when he was too young to understand. :desu:

I don't think Cloud ever mentions his father "dying" -- I don't think Cloud's father is ever mentioned at all!

If memory serves me right he did say that his father died when he was 'very young' during the Kalm flashback

Giving her to Hojo is still kinda extreme if you ask me. I'd sooner just put a bullet in her head then that.

For some bizarre reason I always thought Cloud's father was one of the guys in the Lifestream flashback after Tifa's accident.

Cloud's father:

Enter Cloud's home during the flashback and agree to tell the story about Cloud visiting his mother.

{Cloud}
“I don't know if you'd call it a 'family'…”
“My father…died when I was still young.”
“That's why my mom……
lived alone in this house.”

Here is the Japanese line in case somebody has the skill to check if the original translation is correct.

{Cloud}
「家族っていっても……」
「親父は……
 俺がまだ子供のころに
 死んでしまった」
「だから母さんが……
 この家には母さんがひとりで
 住んでいた」
