FF7 Headcanons and Discussion

marlene's first girlfriend headbutts barret into submission, and barret accepts her as worthy of his daughter.

1.- Given the appropriate circumstances, Joe would have joined Cloud's team, at least momentarily as a guest. That talent for racing could be used as a weapon, yes, I can imagine him riding Teioh, mercilessly trampling the monsters. And his (implied) class could be something like Chocobo Knight. If you think about it, it wouldn't be so crazy, hell, the Highwind has a small but comfortable Chocobo stable.

2.- Most of the monsters are mutated "animals", but some of them are completely sentient and all. Now imagine killing them, while they uselessly try to beg for mercy in the way of distorted, scary noises.

3.- Gold Saucer was destroyed by bandits and thieves some time after Meteorfall (remember Corel Prison?). A pair of years later the terrain is rescued and the ruins are used to rebuild Corel in a similar way Edge was constructed on the outskirts of Midgar. The WRO, some Old Shinra Staff, North Corel inhabitants and even Barret were involved in the process. In the end they even made a medical center for the poverty stricken local poblation suffering from Geostigma.

4.- If he's alive by then, Joe and Teioh would help the newly rebuilt Corel, easily crossing the desert on small errands.

5.- The Kalm Traveler is Kunsel, still searching for Zack. He rebelled against Shinra and fled, then dedicated his life to 1.- find Zack and 2.- destroy Shinra. On his countless adventures around the world he has found all kinds of treasure but he's still far from finding the most important of all; his old friend. He was one of the many people that celebrated the fall of Shinra. Some time between the OG and AC he accepts that Zack is most probably dead and then just wanders aimlessly, having losing all the will to live, helping those in need. Eventually he gets the Geostigma and, decides to end his long journey, killing himself.

6.- Luxiere on the other hand, actually tried to use Zack as means to get another promotion. He was one of the nameless SOLDIERs Cloud and company killed.

7.- Talking about SOLDIER, they lost all their charisma and spirit after Angeal, Lazard, Genesis, Sephiroth and Zack defected. Heidegger and Scarlet brought them to ruins.

I thought this was pretty much canon too, or at least such a widely held position as to make no nevermind until something contradicts it..

Various stuff, most of which come from me writing FFVII fanfiction that conforms to canon.

--any scientists from the Gast/Hojo/Hollander generation that didn't agree with human experimentation disappeared when Gast did. They were either killed, or moved to places like Mideel/Bone Village and didn't publish anything.

--Lucrecia sealed herself in the Crystal Cave so there would be no chance of her cells being used for human experimentation if she was found by Hojo

--the legend that Tifa hears about meeting her mother in the mountains after death dates from the time the Cetra lived in the area and mako levels in the Nibel mountains were much higher

--the only difference between WEAPONS and summons is that WEAPONS are physical entities and summons are magical ones

--Hojo/Deepground got the idea of human transformation from the Guardians of Da Cho in Wutai

--Zagen is the founder of the Cresent Unit

--Hojo experimented on Vincent to prove to himself that he could create an invincible, inmortal fighter before Deepground could even get the project up and running. The transformations were just a bonus.

--the Turks were originally a group of mercenaries loyal only to themselves. They were hired indefinitly by Shin-Ra when it entered the energy buisnes. Neither the Turks nor Shin-Ra has forgotten this.

--Sephiroth didn't know that Cloud had J and S-Cells until Zack died and joined the Lifestream

--the White Materia was created with the memories of all the Cetra the Black Materia killed the first time it was used

Where is this from? All I recall is this from the original game in the Lifestream flashback.

“Mt. Nibel is scary.
Many people have died there.”
“No one crosses that mountain alive……”

When I look at it now I realise I'm confused. Does Tifa not know how her mother died? I certainly don't. =/
Is she implying that her mother might just be lost in the mountains? Or that her mother's ghost might be there? Are we seeing another mistranslation?
I'm confused. =/

- Rude's parents are from Costa del Sol.

- When Reno first got his electro mag rod as a rookie Turk, he thought up as many off-color jokes about it as he possibly could, until Tseng was about ready to kill him. Rude thought they were funny, though.

- Reeve has a cat which served as the inspiration for Cait Sith.

- Dio's lack of pants makes everybody in the same room with him a lot more uncomfortable than the game lets on.

SO I was in a hurry back there and forgot a pair:

1.- As morbid it may sound, the idea of Dyne surviving the fall for a few hours or even a pair of days and then dying intrigues me.

2.- Palmer is nowhere to be found in the Compilation... Some people even think that he was retconned into oblivion. But what if he was actually there all along? He may be hiding from the conflicts that occur in each game, it would be pretty much in line with his character. Or a more interesting theory; It's just that he's so useless, incompetent, stupid and insubstantial that even the games fail to properly recognize him as a character and just demoted him to a NPC. An unseen, unnamed NPC. Of course, I'm not trying to say that make him disappear from the games was the most serious and responsible way to handle his character but yeah, at least we can theorize.

3.- Gilgamesh DID visit Gaia, but the Rift just happened to throw him somewhere... Far away from Cloud's team, or anybody relevant, like, dunno, Gaea's Cliff. After wandering here and there the Rift took him apart before he had the chance to meet Cloud.

3.2.- Or maybe he DID meet him? In any case, the ensuing duel would have been short and would have ended in a little draw or with a victory on Cloud's side (although just between you and me, I love to imagine Gilgamesh mopping the floor with the faces of Cloud and Sephiroth but oh well). Then both fighters would promptly forget each other. Dunno.

- Dio's lack of pants makes everybody in the same room with him a lot more uncomfortable than the game lets on.

This is why one of my dream matches is Mukki vs Dio.

Gilgamesh has at least visited the worlds of Gaia and Spira if his sword collection in 12 is any indication. Naturally, he's visited the worlds of 8, 9, and 12 by appearing there too.

Also, Dio isn't actually wearing any Clothes. At all.

People aren't labelled according to where they hail from. There are no Corelites, Nibellians, Mideelers. That kind of language simply didn't develop because those kinds of labels imply a connection to the land. The only people that ever did that were the Cetra, and the Planet's old name was Cet to them.

Nowadays, people say "I come from Kalm" but it is the only way to express nativity.

Many people assume Tifa started to hate Shinra when they burned Nibleheim: this is untrue.

When Cloud went into Tifa's room, he lost the helmet that protected his identity from her. Feeling embarrassed, he went for the first thing he found: her underwear drawer. He covered his face with her panties and ran through the streets back to the inn shouting 'FORGIVE ME TIFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA'

it was within these moments that tifa began to truly hate shinra

Soooo...

1) Elena has liked Tseng since she was introduced once by her older sister when she was 15 (or whatever age she was in BC I forget) He doesn't remember it though.

2) This is the real reason Elena decided to become a Turk.

3) It is also the reason for her incompetence during FFVII.

4) (Not sure if this is true or not looking at the evidence) Tseng never actually loved Aeris, though he did care for her and regarded her as something special. Reno just got the wrong end of the stick (like he thought there was something between Rude and Elena) because Tseng was unusually gentle in his dealings with Aeris.

5) Heidegger was the one who sent Reno to apprehend Aeris. Tseng had no knowledge of this. Heidegger was sick of Tsengs pussyfooting around.

6) As soon as Aeris noticed it was Reno and the two MPs she knew she was in trouble. Had it just been Tseng she would not have asked Cloud to be her bodyguard.

7) Jenova is from another dimension entirely. In that dimension it is roughly the equivalent of a household pet, and there are far more powerful and horrific beings.

8) There are horses in FFVII but people use chocobos because they are faster and cheaper to feed.

9) Though she puts a brave face on it, Marlene has abandoment issues.

I've probably got more, but thats all I can think of for now.

1. Marlene's got a closer relationship to the planet and the supernatural in FFVII people than most normal people. She's no Cetra but she's more in tune.

2. Barret's wife was pregnant when Shinra burned down North Corel.

3. Wedge is secretly Heidger's son, or a close relative. Their falling out led to him joining Avalanche.

4. Tifa was homeless the first year or two when she came to Midgar because she refused to go to a Shinra sponsored orphanage.

5. Aerith could out drink everybody in her sector. That's how she became well known, not because of her flowers.

6. Cloud still hasn't had the nerve to tell Zack's parents what really happened until after AC/C. When he did, they were simply happy to have closure.

Oh god, I read about a billion FFVII "secrets" back in the day and I remember the one I really wanted to be true was to get Joe as a temporary party member. I even tried to look it up and everything, but I knew it was a lie.

Oh good. The conversation seems to have drifted to something far more worthwhile. I was getting rather tired of wading through endless discussion over Tifa's sexuality.

Anyway. I don't have much to contribute, but I do have one head canon that fascinates me endlessly...

- Gast was Genesis' real father. Considering that both Angeal and Sephiroth have prominent scientists for fathers, and Genesis was the first living human born from the experiment and that Gast helped to pioneer the Jenova Project in the beginning stages, it just...makes a lot of sense to me. I still can't vouch for who his real mother was though. This, of course, leads us to the interesting notion of Genesis and Aerith being half-siblings.

And tbh, I'm interested by the theory of Lucrecia being released from her crystal stasis post-DoC that was proposed earlier in the thread.

And yes, I know that sometimes I just pop up here on the forums out of nowhere. Mostly, I lurk.

I actually thought that Ifalna might be his real mother. I never really thought about his father, but I always fancied Genesis to be half-Cetra. He degraded so quickly that I figured he must have Cetra cells reacting terribly to the Jenova cells and mako.

Heidegger is Rufus' godfather (or whatever the equivalent is in FFVII) Even though Rufus is irritated by him, he sees him as an uncle and this is one of the reasons why he doesn't get rid of him when he becomes president.

Very Cool Topic:

1. Cloud has a middle school education at best.
2. Tifa was healed by a black market doctor in the slums whom she pummeled after he tried to take advantage of her for payment. Her original plan was to go back to Nibelheim, but she doesn't have any money and starts waitressing to make ends meet. She lives meagerly for a year or so before Barret sets up shop in Seventh Heaven. She just happened to walk in on an Avalanche meeting while looking for work.
3. Aeris and all Ancients are descendants of The Spirans from FFX.
4. Had Nibelheim not happened Zack would have eventually helped Cloud reach SOLDIER First Class. Cloud would win over Tifa at first, but she would eventually tire of the Shinra stooge he had become.
5. Sephiroth probably knew Cloud would defeat him in the Northern Crater. The fact that he allows the party to reach him implies that he doesn't care or in fact wants to be defeated so he can enter the lifestream.
6. Aerith would have gotten bored with Cloud quickly if they dated.
7. Most of the party members are alcoholics.

Vincent did a Rafiki impression with Nanaki's cubs when they were born.

After hearing about Cloud's promise with Tifa when they were kids, subconsciously trying imitate Cloud, Denzel ends up making a similar promise with the Moogle Girl from AC/C.

The one thing that Cloud did not "absorb" from Zack after his death was his sexual prowess/libido, in fact Cloud's "Zackification" actually made him more oblivious to peoples' feelings.

Each of Reeve Tuesti's Cait Sith robots comes with a flowered-patterned handkerchief...just like how mummy used to make them.

I love Soldier-X's monster bestiary early on in this thread. Would kill for an FFVII remake where a lot of that becomes canon. The stuff about Midgar being the promised land as Shinra's irony would be a perfectly amazing retcon too.
