i think there's a strong possibility sephiroth is repeating zack's (or cloud's mother's?) last words back to him. but i am not convinced it's a different voice or mimicry of any kind, because my many years of being forced to watch teen wolf against my will tell me that is still tyler hoechlin speaking.

Comes across to me like they're shooting for either 3 or 4 games and just aren't sure which yet, and as such they don't want to commit to any number whatsoever.

Why nope, it's basically saying the same thing as me?

Because it's not. Jason Schreier has had an actual conversation with Kitase and came away with the impression that they don't know how many games there are going to be, which personally doesn't surprise me since the entire first game is Midgar. He then confirms this by saying they're planning out the scope for game 2.

That's in no way them having "some idea" of how many parts there are, it's confirmation of the opposite.

Oh right yeah I completely misread it, lol. I still think they're probably being coy and are letting on far less than they have to for the moment. Personal opinion, of course. I still think they're aiming for a trilogy, but it might get swept away as things snowball into something else. Edit: I mean there's surely no way they haven't had some sort of plan for this, and are leaving it to the winds and whims of fortuna.

Process of planning the scope...I hope that means they're in the process of figuring out how much to incorporate and not that there's not a lot in progress in terms of development for Part 2 let's face it fans are not going to want to have to wait 3-4 Years at a time after part 1 to play the next part and then another 3-4 to play another part (i'm thinking trilogy also)

By the time E3 2020 rolls around I guarantee people are going to want some sort of update on part 2 even after part 1 only being out 3 months.

They don't want to limiting themselves to think too much about a fixed number on the parts, I guess "STEP BY STEP" is their motto, means they let it come naturally. Sounds unprofessional, but I think that's the right choice.

I'm wondering if Nomura and Kitase will set the quality standard with the first game or two, before passing the torch to others in the company to finish off the story. Like Force said, I can't see them spending the rest of their careers on this project, but I also can't see the release schedule being any less than 3 years between games. Even a heavily expanded Midgar has to be less work than the bulk of the world map and some towns, right? I'm excited for an expanded Midgar, but I'm still not convinced it was a good idea in the big picture.

SE apparently sent out some follow-up comments after Kitase’s comments on the number of installments still being undecided.

I’m guessing that the time difference is likely going to be 2-3 years between each release. I’m betting the second game will definitely be on the PS5 (don’t know if it will be exclusively on PS5 or a dual release like MGSV and BOTW). Also I’m still betting that three parts will be the total number of parts.
