OK, so Unreal Engine 5 is out and in developer’s hands. And it turns out the “infinite resolution” asset marketing is actually very true.

Man, I hope Remake Part II or III uses it. The world would be so detailed, and we’ll never have an infamous low-res doorframe scenario ever again. (A lot of the individual objects are sort of N64-lookin’…)

The level of detail is actually mind blowing.

You can move your UE4 projects over to UE5 — I have done so with no issues. There’s no reason not to do it.

Indeed. The only thing I can imagine getting in the way is if a lot of assets were already completed with low-resolution in mind. Maybe they’d have to go back and UV and texture the high poly objects, which might cost a lot of time.
No way, the ugly door for example existed in high definition in the files, it was a bug that made the game use the low resolution instead.

“Low resolution” is a term that always moves around in 3D, so apologies for the vagueness - I didn’t mean just stuff like the door. When I said “low resolution” in that context, I just meant traditional game-ready models as we know them now. Cloud’s 100K poly gameplay model is “low resolution” compared to whatever millions of polys his sculpt has. In this new system, it seems to make the concept of a game-ready mesh obsolete. (Though it can’t be done with animated objects / characters yet, only static meshes - though that’s in the works)

Some objects, even at their highest LoD setting, are still pretty rough and polygonal. (understandable and they still look pretty good) but UE5 could usurp all of that.

Everyone - We will play Yuffie stuff first.

Also everyone - Will chapter select Ch.3 JUST TO LOOK AT THE DOOR

Fans have managed to catch a bit of new stuff explained in the Material Ultimania Plus' promotional video, and I don't know where to discuss that stuff. Should we make a new thread in the spoilers section?

It's a lot of exciting stuff, that sheds a new light on at least some scenes, and I really wish that we could discuss it as a whole, not on every chapter thread - that might be too much. Should we wait for the release though?
