Yeah, that's true. It could certainly be a callback to the transformation Hojo underwent with Jenova cells.

But why her as a monster? Why bring such a tertiary (she literally shows up once and that's it) character back as an experimental monster here?

It would have been more effective to use her in the Remake proper. Have Cloud have a fleeting moment of recognition upon seeing her mutated form in the Drum and then shaking it off.

Oh well, this is all just a massive surprise. Now I wonder what other track names have different titles in Japanese that are more revealing?

But it sorta makes sense.

FFVII's main storyline doesn't interact with too many Compilation elements because... It's FFVII and its own unique story.

But if you veer off that path....?

You're literally in the Compilation 100%. Going too far outside the FFVII plot sphere leads you to all sorts of things that aren't FFVII.

And Yuffie isn't even close to her proper path yet so :monster:

Was thinking about Dirge of Cerberus and Intergrade and this thought dawned on me:

It’s summer 2006. The newest FFVII release is just a few weeks away. I've seen screenshots of some characters named Weiss and Nero. Looking forward to exploring Deepground.

It's the Year of Dirge :neo:

Meanwhile I'm hyped for Dirge content but I also hope that FF7R will go the full length of its current (apparent) direction and render all previous post-OG content erased due to changes in the timeline. The old post-OG stuff will be limited to an old timeline and thus still be canon yet it will be erased so it's also non-canon. Schrödinger's Canon.

Just go full ham and change the scenarios enough that we end up seeing Deepground soldiers and Tsviets fight the planetary Weapons.

I saw somebody on the 7R reddit hoping Yuffie would hit Deepground's self destruct switch and make dirge non canon lol.
I mean I kind of fall into this line of thinking...

...where I don’t think we’ll see AC and DoC occur as they did previously in this new Remake continuity but rather than totally scrapping those stories like the Reddit user mentioned might like, SE takes elements of those games and weaves them throughout the retelling of the OG.

Pretty interesting strategy imo as it still allows those other works room to exist in relation to the OG while taking on a new relationship to the remake. Compilation haters might not be too thrilled about this stuff infesting the oh-so-precious OG story but such is the way of life, I guess. I hated Genesis but I’d happily welcome him back if it means I can spend hours abusing him inside a VR simulator or something.

They're not killing their kid.
Of course not. People will still be able to play Ever Crisis, watch Advent Children Complete on whatever service it's on etc.

But for the new continuity, with the new canon, people will have to play the Remake series. I don't think Square considers quasi-deleting AC, OtWtaS, DoC etc to be "killing their kid". If they had such concerns they wouldn't have made such a dramatic re-framing to the OG story the way they did with Remake Part 1's ending.

...It's also possible that they'll backpedal and have all the time shenanigans be erased from the Remake timeline, everybody has their memories partially erased and everybody only remember the OG version of events and then old post-OG happens as before. I can see them going either way.
