Carbuncle in FFVII has SFS (Sakura-Forehead-Syndrome), but it's endearing in a weird way. Just like her's.

Choco-chick looks like a young Cloud. And I think it's intentional.

That Chocobo chick pisses off because it reminds me of Baby Yoda, which people are still incessantly posting about on social media for months on end. :monster:

At first I was dissappointed that the nail bat showed up so early, but when you think about it, Midgar is probably the most fitting place for a nail bat. The Greatsword of Midgar.

Exactly. Why the hell would the Temple of the Ancients keep a fucking Nail Bat in chest on an alter??

A mysterious weapon brought from another world. This "bat" is apparently a stick used for a type of entertainment, and is covered with nails. It seems as if this weapon was enshrined in temples made by a race called the Ancients in the world from which it originated.

Like, wtf? Was that the Holy Smiting Stick that beat back Jenova or something?

I like that the sidequests have images for them, and little progress meters. It makes it seem like it'll be easy to track, and will hopefully make the random NPCs feel a little more important than just being "quest stations" like that can be. I also like that the quests seem to be tailored around specific things for the game (i.e. learning and getting access to more Materia, etc).

Also, I like that they're mentioning material like Dodge that give some idea of how new materia work with the active battle system.

Chocobo Chick & Carbuncle's mega forehead design feels a little odd stylistically, but I'm not overly bothered by it. They're definitely not as adorable as I'd've suspected though. :mon:

Lastly, I'm stoked that we're getting new place names like "The Corkscrew Tunnel" and we'll start to get more little areas and other things like that fleshed out with little text flair like that makes me hopeful that we'll have something like FFXV's Archive/Bestiary to be able to just pour over all the lore and other things from the game.

So with side quests confirmed, that raises questions about certain events.

So how does the sector 7 plate fall affect all of this? Maybe some quests can be completed in certain time windows? Or no side quests from sector 7? Will you save little Fluff just in time to watch her get pancaked in smoldering debris? Such questions.

NIce info about the sidequests and battle mechanics (though we've already seen some of it, I think), but why are they giving renders for summons and not more characters?

I've seen this before ?

Idk about the sidequests. I like how each chapter will have their own tho? So maybe there's a small chance of a least some of them not being generic, garbage to pad out gamelength.

I mean, depends on how you define "generic garbage" because by definition "sidequests" will "pad out" a game's length with their inclusion. Quests will have certain tiers and levels of difficulty, connected to who and why they're requested. Some will be simple to get one acclimated with the game, while other's will be challenging and far more in-depth than just swatting enemies at the behest of slum denizens.

I don't see how that's a problem. There has to be a floor to build up from in terms of difficulty and ease.

@Jairus I'm gonna level with you here, I don't think Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie are getting HD renders. These are made primarily for marketing purposes, and the main party and new game mechanics like summons make better promo fodder than secondary characters do. I'd love getting renders of them too, don't get me wrong. Hell, my dream right now is for the three of them to get Play Arts Kai figures, or bring arts at least. I wouldn't hold your breath on getting anything big with them though.

On sidequests, as long as they aren't suuuuuuuuuper repetitive like Crisis Core's 150 mission sludge-fest, I'm cool with it. I'd love it if they amounted to more than just "go here, kill thing" like so many other RPG sidequests do, though. I'd like it if they used the side content for a bit of wacky comic relief, like Yakuza.

That was more a function of CC being a PSP game meant for a "grab-and-go" playstyle where you can just play while you're bored, be engaged and then stop. I'm like, 90% certain there won't be a swath of just "go here and kill this thing on our orders" missions that reuse the same maps over and over. There's way more resources and energy behind this.

Agreed! When I played through Yakuza for the first time last year, I thought that the side quests in Yakuza would be perfect for the Midgar portion of the Remake.

Oh trust me, I know why Crisis Core was the way it was. I've been playing Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise lately, and as a Yakuza spin-off it does have a lot of weird bullshit sidequests that are a lot of fun, but even it still devolves into killing random enemies at a certain point. I'm hoping the remake avoids quests like that if at all possible. I know a lot of them will involve fighting enemies, but even having a cute little story to accompany such things helps a lot.

Thing is though, even new guy Mullet Head Roche got a render, as did President Shinra and Heidegger, and they're not the most marketable of characters, either. Neither is Hojo. It shouldn't matter whether the characters are marketable or not, if they're more than just background NPC's and have some significance to the story, they should get them.

And there's nothing stopping SE from trying to make the trio marketable. They did explicitly say they wanted to explore and develop them further. The trio specifically. So I just want them to hold to their word and include marketing in said development rather than continually giving them the shaft in that regard.

Besides, if FFXIII's Team NORA could get hires renders, there is no excuse for the AVALANCHE trio not to get them.
