I guess in my mind, I always just assumed the Midgar model had that jagged piece to represent sector 7. It never occurred to me that they probably wouldn't update a model they have just to show a Sector that collapsed.

Seeing Midgar like this makes me wonder just how big the Shinra Building is. I mean, it can't possibly be 70 floors, right? Maybe 700 floors?

A few months ago I obsessed over this. The Shinra Building is "only" 70 stories (in the real world, that would still make the tower one of the top 100 buildings in the world by height), but bear in mind that the top floors are in a structure separate from the rest of the building by a quite a large drum-like structure (which back in the day I thought was the HVAC from hell, but in this iteration seems to be something else) and the struts above that holding up the top floors. Basically, it's 70 stories but has the height of a structure that would be 100 or so stories if it was one solid structure.

Also bear in mind that the floors themselves in the Shinra Building (thinking of the cafeteria floor in particular) seem to have quite a bit of height to them, so they are "thicker" than what you would normally get. Would also bet that the space between floors are also thicker for that reason.

Also to note, the buildings on the plate are heavily recessed from the actual plate edges, whereas the HQ seems to start at the same level as the plate edge, so it increases the height difference perception.

Also, the other skyscrapers in the city never seem to exceed 20 floors.

The detail in that picture of Midgar just blows my mind. Nothing is repeated. Every sector is different from every other sector (although I've never been sure whether the sector comes after the numbered reactor, clockwise speaking, or before). After, I think, going by S6.
Sector 5 and Sector 7 look like high class residential areas. Sectors 1 and 2 are full of factories and warehouses. It's almost as if, the higher the number of your sector, the posher the address. Outer ring or inner ring? Inner ring has got to be better. Those narrow little metal bridges between the sectors are just wild. So unsafe. I wonder how many people commit suicide throwing themselves off those bridges? Or do they have suicide nets like the bridge in Bern? It's easy and safe to walk to the Shinra building from any sector, but really risky to walk from one Sector to another...
It's just got to be the case that every single person living in upper Midgar either works for Shinra or works in some sort of service capacity (doctor, shopkeeper, schoolteacher, actor...)
I love how you can see between the sectors down into the slums. It's a constant reminder for the people on the plate of just how far they can fall if they don't stay in line.
It's both horribly menacing and a cool place you'd kind of quite like to live in.
What are those ENORMOUS halogen lights for? This is a city where the dark is not allowed to enter. I imagine everybody who lives there has disrupted sleep patterns.

That Midgar render is my new work wallpaper now. Also, I was always weirded out by Sector 6 being missing from the scaled model. It wasn't finished, then. Says a lot about President Shinra to scrap a city that was unfinished in the first place to begin plans to construct a new city. Corporations, man.

It's funny how industrial Midgar is, it's kind of ridiculous and over the top but also probably and sadly plausible. It's like an over-the top exaggerated, and out of proportion commentary on the pros and cons of such a thing. It's like, INDUSTRIALIZATION, JOBS, MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, (while there's still) a middle-class, but yet there's something really sad about it. It makes me think like, freaking cancer too if the prospect of 'mako' poisoning wasn't enough, lol. It's all worth it in the end, for GPD (gross national product) y'know cuz, soda pop and n' stuff.

That 8k render is tremendous. The scale of the city is also just way, way beyond what it was in FFVII and the Compilation.

In the original, each sector feels more like a small city -- if that -- while in Remake it is truly a metropolis.

My favorite addition may be the dozen or so skyscrapers near the rear wall of Sector 7, which seems to be the most developed of them all.

Now it looks like some Cocoon Edenhall security mech technology that's made to obliterate all life in a 2 mile radius.

I love it. That boss fight looks sweet. Goddamn, and that's the second fucking boss?! The whole build up to it and exploration of the reactor is just. *chef's kiss* Amazing.

Also, in the other clip after the first Mako Bombing, the use of "The Promised Land" from AC was incredible. The world building and scenery is superb. This game just doesn't cease to impress.

Can't wait to start the demo!

Wow the flower is a really nice touch story-wise I think. The designs are all really stellar. Did they have to make Cloud's skin look like that though? first it's like super glistening and now it has that weird tone to it, which, i don't know, it's more " realistic" I cannot help but wonder or think if it's because supposedly "diseases" are such a huge and major deal with the some of the Japanese since it's intrinsic in their underlining cultures and belief systems. Oh no, oops I shouldn't have mentioned diseases. They're not diseases for sure, it's hard to tell what it means for certain or if it's just a coincidence. I didn't understand what it was with diseases when i was younger and while I do not have anything serious I spent lots of time playing outside and I remember being in dusty or old cellars and attics and things like that or being very curious and adventuresome. I don't know if it's just a product of having an immune system and something that everyone experiences or if you can be that clean and supposedly "disease" free but I have to wonder what constitutes a disease because then you might become extremely vulnerable to bacteria as whole in general. Like I was just sitting here and I thought "if everything is a possible suspect for disease then...how often for example, should you wash your clothes, change your socks and clean/change your bedding" simple things like that.

It's not the second boss. The game has 15 chapters and Air Buster is chapter 7. There's at least one boss before you get back to Sector 7. I'm betting there's going to be more in between.

I'm glad they used The Promised Land. Was wondering which tracks, if any would be used from the compilation. Hopefully Price of Freedom will be used in Zack scenes

My favorite OG tracks will more than likely be in the final game. Or maybe they can somehow use subtle parts of "those chosen by the planet" earlier on. I know more people like "One winged angel," but I think "those chosen," is much more menacing

I really do hope that Those Chosen by the Planet gets the love that it needs. I don't mind OWA (it's my favorite VG song of all time), but don't overuse it. Those Chosen works well. I want it to be fresh by the time I get to face Safer-Sephy
