This docu-series is incredible. It's so fascinating to see the level of depth they went into in making this game. It's also fascinating to see what it is they focused on.
The best part of this series isn't so much what they're saying they did. This is of course important, and objectively speaking, will be portrayed in this most positive light seeing as how this is their own project they worked on and are selling.
But what's truly interesting is what they're focusing on to talk about in terms of their efforts. That's what is so good and telling about the quality. The fact they are so heavily focused on how they construct the game not just in terms of its high-end graphics, but also in conveying the attitudes, emotions and story in a way that communicates the intricacies of the personalities of the characters is just. Their focus and efforts are in the right place. They are not merely polishing rocks. The focus and craftsmanship has been placed in areas that are highly important and reflective of them trying to tell a very meaningful and well-told story. And they're aware of what fans are looking for.
Like, Nojima's awareness of how important it would be to re-write the dialogue to adapt to a medium that has facial expressions, vocal dialogue, etc is great. Toriyama wanting to convey the mind-frame of each character in ways that were not capable in the OG is great. I'm just. Glad they're taking the potential of the game seriously.
Because what some of the issues of the Compilation's previous games were. Not that it was bad per se, but for some characters, the script-writing didn't properly fit or sound like normal conversational speech. Back in that era, a lot of games had that issue. XII didn't. XIII didn't. But KH, DC, and CC all to varying degrees had scripting-dialogue quirks that certainly sounded.. Not quite as natural. Your mileage may vary. However, as it's been shown thus far, VII-R's dialogue has been at a much higher level. A level fitting for a full budget FF title.
