Saw a Reddit thread entitled "Episode Ignis VR Mode Screenshot."

Was expecting it to be a joke anyway, of course -- perhaps a picture of somebody's morning bowl of Froot Loops or a peanut butter sandwich. Instead,
it was an entirely black image.

Wow.

Regret to report I may have chuckled as I shook my head.

Finally got those remaining things from the Scenario Ultimania done. This really will probably be the last of what I do from this book. Hopefully an Ultimania Omega comes along soon.

I may put all that I've done into a proper article for the front page, particularly since I did do the "History of Eos" and "Glossary" sections in their entirety. Honestly, I don't feel like messing with pictures and formatting and stuff like that. We'll see what happens. :monster:

I'll also include the introduction to the "Glossary" section here.

Hunters ――Those who earn their living through battle
Mercenary-like professionals who take up such jobs as eliminating beasts. Centralized at Meldacio HQ, Hunters can be broadly categorized into those whose work involves investigating ruins or escorting civilians, and the bounty hunter type who receive rewards from clients after completing Hunts. In addition, in order to prevent novices from throwing their lives away, highly difficult Hunts cannot be accepted without approval from HQ.

Private companies ――Businesses that sustain the livelihoods of many people
A group of businesses providing services such as dining and lodging to the many people living in Eos. How they reach customers depends on the business, as some focus on larger towns and others develop chains in various places. Many businesses also broadcast commercials on the radio.

[caption on a screenshot of Noctis and the bros in a Crow's Nest]
The presence of each business is also a big help to Noctis and co. in their journey.

The major enterprises operating in the Kingdom of Lucis
Crow's Nest
A popular fast food restaurant where the lively crow character Kenny Crow serves as mascot. There are a number of locations along the roads in Lucis, and at the flagship restaurant in Old Lestallum, one can try Kenny's "Special" Salmon on the special menu.

Leville Hotel
A luxury hotel with a reputation for courteous hospitality that can be found not only in Lucis's Lestallum, but also in Altissia of Accordo. At the Altissia location, a Royal Suite can be prepared for the wealthy, and it is said one can experience the finest of times to forget everyday life.

Culless Munitions
Hunter-operated shops carrying the weapons that are essential to battling monsters. In actuality, only the Lestallum location is a store, and elsewhere they operate out of stalls on remodeled truck beds so that travel sales are possible. A logo featuring a chariot is on the signs.

Coernix Oil
A company dealing in the gasoline fundamental to travel by car. Refilling stations have been set up in many places along the road, abundant with gas pumps of a variety antiquated by comparison to those in the Crown City. In the shops attached to the refilling stations, goods such as car customization parts and repair kits are sold.

EXINERIS Industries
A company that uses fragments of the Meteor that fell in the age of myth as a power source, supplying the electricity within Lucis. Having established the enormous power plant in the crater in the northern part of Lestallum, they deliver electricity from there to many places. Only women work at the power plant, and inspecting the pylons outside Lestallum is one of their jobs.

Three Z's Motel
A chain of motels oriented toward accommodation for road trips. The three locations within Lucis are at the Longwythe Rest Area, the Taelpar Rest Area, and Old Lestallum.

Beautiful work as always Mexican.

I had a lot of trouble with some of the location names. You make it look easy. Maybe I should have played the game in another language besides English.

Now that photo mode is out I went ahead and took hd shots of the paintings in the castle if you still want them. Nothing really fancy.

Well, I doublechecked everything against Japanese and English gameplay videos, just to be sure I was getting the localization's terms in correctly. :monster:

Thanks, by the way. =)

At the time, I had really only needed someone to confirm what the gang says about Ardyn while examining the left-most painting, but I still wouldn't mind having those if you want to post them. :monster:

And on a note related to the prophecy foretold in those paintings, someone on Reddit pointed out that
the shot of the Chocobros looking out across the water at Insomnia falling to the Empire is yet another reference to the four Warriors of Light from the first Final Fantasy:

Is it just me that gets a Dark Souls vibe from Gladio's DLC?

Cause it's starting to look an awful like it. (Good thing =))

Apparently you can see the daylight
one last time in Chapter 12 if you wait around long enough:

But it's only to get a better look at Ravus and Luna's home in ruin.

From what I understand, this is the very last time you can see the sun during the main storyline.

I did that!! Wait for daylight, that is. In fact, THAT is when the feeling of "light is fading" really sink in. I wanted to see Tenebrae in daylight. Alas, that was not to be.

I find it incredibly poetic that Noctis would see the light of day for the last time in Tenebrae, Lunafreya's home.

This game may be lacking in the storyline department, but what it has is very good.

I actually did stick around Tenebrae until the sun rose again. I honestly wasn't sure if it would or not. When it did it was just a sunrise color and it never got to full daylight; I really felt like that was the last sunrise. It felt so ominous and sad, especially after the train ride to get there and the events on the way.

Being at the train station around all those people, and realizing the sun just barely rose for the last time... Yeah it gave me some emotions. I loved it.

Someone put together a nice playlist on YouTube of 179 videos with a lot of the "bonding and banter" scenes from throughout the game:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpOV-fZaM_YtK_5GCpiT_tpQE72uVEiyj

Obviously it's not everything (how could it be?), but it's a lot of good stuff. Should be required viewing for anyone who makes the mistake of just watching the story cutscenes as I initially did.

On a related note, those of you who have been watching these FFXV threads have no doubt noticed that I've spent a lot of time with this game despite having never played it yet myself. I dare say I've spent more time with it than some of you who own it.

It's really funny to me how attached I've become to it. It's definitely one of my favorite FFs now, and I absolutely can't wait to eventually sit down with it and play every bit of it.

Even
Luna's death and Ignis's blinding get me now. Ignis saying "She has passed" is one of the most powerful lines in the game -- it's like a double whammy, because you know Ignis is feeling sorry for himself here, but he feels worse for Noct, and he's trying to hold it together.

That and Chapter 10 really cements one's love for Iggy. Obviously, he's great before that, but there's something about how he handles himself during this period that is just so damn dignified. You gotta love the guy.

I don't know who my favorite of the Chocobros is, though. Most of the time, I'm probably fondest of either Iggy or Prompto -- and I suppose that's been reflected by my choices in many of the videos I've linked to or snapshots I've reposted. But Gladio and Noct are great characters too.

Unlike some, I never even held
Gladio's attitude toward Noct following Luna's death
against Gladio, because it fits the character he is -- and he's not really out of line either, if you think about it. They've all lost a lot at that point. You never even see Gladio break down over his dad. He knew what was at stake, just as his father did, and he's doing his duty, just as his father did. He's pissed that
Noct
doesn't seem able to, though, after all that has been sacrificed.

Of course,
Noct having such a hard time is perfectly understandable as well. You don't feel inclined to hold his apathy against him, especially since he's still willing to move toward his destiny, even if he's just kind of going through the motions for a while.

The more familiar I became with the setting as well, it made sense. Just using the Armiger leaves Noct tired already, so he fears the ring for plenty of good reasons -- physical and symbolic ones.

There's a lot of rich characterization in here once you realize how to digest it. It's conveyed by fantastic voice acting as well.

There are still plenty of fair critiques to make of the game in pointing out flaws in its storytelling, but much of that comes down to the development timetable, I believe. What they ended up with is impressive, all things considered, and by the time all the DLC comes down the pipeline, it should really be solid.

I am disappointed that we'll never see the intended scope of exploration fully realized, but what a goldmine of content there has been discovered and shared by those gamers who have broken outside of the invisible walls. There's a whole extra game that can be experienced in just exploring that stuff.

One of these days, I'll actually be playing this thing and will probably write a log as I do. :monster: And I'll definitely do more Ultimania translations when the inevitable Ultimania Omega comes along. Hopefully I'll have played the game by then, but even if not, I'm seeing this thing through to the end. :monster:

Thanks so much for all the work you've put in already. Your translations are the only ones I trust ( sorry Superespresso, I appreciate your work too :) ). And I hope you do someday make a front page post collecting all that you've done, it would help the XV community greatly.

I really enjoy piecing together the lore of XV in the game. At all times I have a basic "outline" of what I believe happened in this era or whatnot, but then I come across a new piece of information that slightly challenges that. Fortunately, I'm never too attached to any particular "outline" I've created, so I reshape it to accommodate for the new information. In that sense, the lore is always changing and growing with the player.

Honestly, precisely knowing every bit of lore isn't important to understand and enjoy the main plot. Even knowing the exact
origin of Ardyn isn't vital in my eyes. It's not too important to know if he was the original Armiger King, who is Izunia, or whatever. All you need to understand is that he feels he was wrongfully betrayed by the Crystal ages ago, which has filled him with hatred since. I think the game is able to portray that
. So XV succeeds in being both a game you can enjoy causally or analytically.

Let's just say that your constant delving into the mythos, insights, glitches, and other aspects not clearly defined in the game - despite not having even played it yourself - has definitely shamed me enough to re-evaluate what I think of XV.

I can't see it ever reaching anywhere near the mantle of favourite, but I'm going to give the game another chance after a break.

Are we sure Gladio didn't break down over his father because he is just strong or was it just that the writer's forgot about it? :monster:

@Tres: Thanks for your constant excitement about FFXV. It really makes my day whenever I see your commentary in this thread. I'm really holding off a little bit waiting for some of the DLC to hit, and to hunt around for some of the other Camping Moments with the Chocobros, but it's always exciting to see someone who's utterly bursting with passion about it that always renews my happiness and interest in wandering through the game.

I like to think it's because Gladio is either strong, or he just chose to grieve in private. Maybe once he reunited with Iris.

Gladio is definitely the kind of guy who keeps emotions to himself; it's a product of the lifestyle he's been brought up in. While I wish we could have seen him voice his thoughts on what happened to his father, I don't find it hard to believe that he kept his grieving private.

Hopefully it's something that gets addressed in his DLC.

Because some people want to discuss the story as they go through it without being exposed to it all at once, and until the game's properly been out for a while, this tends to be standard protocol in most thradz.

Also, because the game has so much ability to just wander and enjoy it apart from the story, the other thread is a lot of discussing the game removed from the story, but still focusing on the gameplay and stuff itself.
