Why did you choose Steam® and Smartphones?

Steam® smartphones are currently distributing games from "I" to "VI", but some of them have been out for over 10 years and maintenance is very difficult... It's amazing how far smartphones have come. So we wanted to remaster the game on the same smartphone and Steam® so that people all over the world can play it for many years to come. If there's a lot of demand for it, we'll do our best to make it playable in more environments! Please support us!

Ah, the good old "if there's demand for it" tactic >_>

Honestly though, I can see the point here

Did you know that the PC port of Final Fantasy V keeps running the launcher while you're playing, and it consumes over 60% of your CPU cycles for no reason? Or that surprise surprise, nobody likes playing Final Fantasy III when only 2 monsters can be onscreen at once? Or how about this one, Kefka's Laughing animation calls the wrong goshdang frames from his spritesheet. Do you know how many times Kefka is shown laughing in Final Fantasy VI? You probably don't and I don't either, because it's a lot. Did you also know that Cagnazzo's parting shots at the party before he starts the walls of Baron Throneroom's antechamber closing on them are borked up to play two lines right over each other so that neither is properly audible?

Also the whole "Golbez' backstory" bs. I've always wished that there was a way to completely rip that shit outta the game. WotL has supplementary material that doesn't match the tone of the original, too, but at least it's stuff that has no real bearing on the plot. I don't need your 6th grade fanfic writing to be right at one of the most climactic scenes in the game, I don't care if you did write the original story (yes, it is the same writer, I checked).

What I think will be nice is that these will (hopefully) be clean, easy, and quick. I can replace a font, and with an afternoon of reading, I bet that you can replace a font, too. Don't worry about the font, guys.

Golbez's "backstory is BS?"

I mean. He's a brainwashed puppet of Zemus through 95% of the game lol, how is seeing him become possessed a "BS backstory?"

It's not just that, but it is BS because it is unnecessary. It tells us nothing that we didn't already know and the dialogue is dumb, and the animation is dumb, and the framing is dumb. It's an all out assault of dumb, and it interrupts a scene that was originally very short and was (can't stress this enough) already on pretty shaky ground, storytelling wise. This is the bad apple that spoils the bunch, to me. It makes the scene overstay its welcome, badly.

By the way, it turns out that the pixel artist they got to do the remasters is a veteran that worked on the originals. With that in mind, it’s slightly surprising that they look the way they do, but artists change a lot over the years I suppose…

The aesthetics of the sprites and backgrounds are admittedly really well done. Music sounds good too.

My problem is the font and the overall... direction this whole project has taken as a whole. Yeah, it's great they've remastered the music, sprites, difficulty, etc.

But why the bullshit about "demand" for consoles? Why the cutting of content? Why the shitty font? There's just so much BS floating around this that just kills it. Like, if people are happy with this, good for them. Clearly there's a market for it and I'm glad people can experience these classics.

But I'm more the content with my piracy Advance version of these games, and the actual classics that exist for the PSone, PSP and SNES mini. The additions from the Advance versions of these games have been part of the canon and overall narrative of these games for well over a decade. They've been referenced in all of the appearances these game characters have made elsewhere since, so it just seems really weird to exclude that stuff now. That content made the games fun, challenging and far more replayable. So yeah. This sadly isn't the definitive version of these games I was hoping for. And considering I've bought these games 3 times at least, I'm sorry but I got standards. :monster:

Can you conceive of someone not caring as much as you do about all the things you guys are complaining about?

I mean, I don't want to stomp on everyone's toes or anything. I definitely don't wake up in the morning and think "who can I piss off on the internet today"

But like I said, these things don't bother me, I don't get it, I don't understand what the problem is here.

What if I just wanna play the game as released, with a new translation and a reskin? Is that okay with everybody or does it make me a pleb or a filthy casual? The vitriol about it baffles me.

Honestly. That's cool, if it's not a big deal for you, that's perfectly valid. Like I said. There's clearly an audience for it. Those not interested in those expansions and stuff can easily enjoy these remasters.

I was only speaking from my own experience and like I said, I got these games several times over. It only makes sense they'd have to do more to make me open my wallet again for something I already own, lol

Those summons look pretty dang cool man, I can't imagine what the music sounds like

I think I'm really gonna dig this and I'm going to lose several weekends worth of time lol

I don't own any of the classics apart from the US version of FF Origins (the one with FFV and VI, not the one where Jack kills Chaos) so I might as well get these...

...if I can add them to my PS account that is :awesome:

edit: actually Origins was I and II, V and VI was Anthology. The need to meme was too strong for me to resist though :monster:

Yeah, I don’t have any issue with the font size there. That footage looks really good. I’m starting to change my mind on these pixel remasters, honestly.

Pictures like this made me think the originals were undoubtedly better. In isolation, the new character sprites aren’t as good. (Especially that FF1 example)

But in context?

The brighter colors of the player sprites pop off of the background more, which have also been nicely improved. So they arguably do a better job during actual gameplay, and that’s what matters. It looks quite nice as a part of a larger whole.
