Final Fantasy Type-0 Thread

I bought it yesterday and had some fun with it :P

Admittedly, I played it less than some folks will have played it in one day because life gets in the way.

But it was fun... I've just completed the first mission so it's pretty early still. Seems like it'll be good. I still have some reservations about how time is managed in this game since I like to take my own sweet time with everything but oh well.

Thoughts as I'm playing:

There are scenes in the opening I don't remember being in the PSP version.

- Menus etc. are as snappy as they were in the PSP version
- Everything looks amazingly crisp
- One of the strongest openings in the entirety of the FF series.
- Eesh, I would like an option to turn off that motion blur. Jeepers.
- Attacks and spells look pretty amazing in HD
- Is that Tahmoh Penikett narrating?
- As in the PSP version, some attacks hit while others don't and it doesn't make much sense sometimes
- Gameplay is still fun and satisfying
- I can't seem to absorb the phatoma when I'm pressing the buttons to do so. It feels a bit buggy, I didn't have this problem on the PSP.

Well, there's a super easy exploit that makes the game an absolute cakewalk.

There's a part of the academy called the arena where you can essentially save and "sign out" of the game (it's called participating in a secret mission). While signed out you accrue EXP on these missions, and when you log back in you get that EXP. The more time you're away the more EXP you get. Changing the system clock works. You can get a character to level 99 in less than 30 minutes.

Apparently this existed on the PSP but you had to put the console to sleep, whereas all you do on the PS4 is press the home button and change the date before hitting continue (saving at the secret mission dude puts you in the main menu). So so broken.

On the one hand it's actually not that big of a deal because from what I've read your characters aren't that much more powerful when they're levelled up. On the other hand levelling up gets you AP so you can unlock all sorts of moves. I wouldn't begrudge someone wanting to use this, but I'm not going to bother for the time being.

I'm enjoying the game so far, I just did the first tactical mission (where you direct troops to strategic locations and retake towns etc) and I got an S rank for the first time (A for time, A for casualties, A for... something else) which I was super excited about :D.

you could do that if you played it on the vita (and psp go?), except you didn't even need to sign out (that didn't exist in the psp one). you just had to go to the settings and move the date ahead one day (24 hours was the max you could do it for before you stopped getting any rewards), get your rewards and then do it again.

i was wondering what would happen with that, because it helped me out a lot to cut down on time :sadpanda: although in the final area, i think the enemies level scales to your average so it's not like the whole thing is easy if you overlevel

Oh hey, some more thoughts:

- If anybody is wondering when the story gets interesting, the answer (at least for me) is Chapter 4
- I really want to slap machina
- Gameplay is really fun, and the right kind of challenging

That's it, that's all I have for now.

I just randomly got 99 assault chocobos from a single breeding after 6 of those in-game hours. Well the trophy for getting 100 was easy XD

Well I'll definitely be doing multiple playthroughs, it seems I've missed two NPC questlines in academia that are quite important - Naghi and Carla, who in chapter 5 are no longer showing up anywhere in the damn place for me. I have the cactuar flower sitting waiting for him on my second playthrough though XD

i don't think you can do all the npc subquests in one go anyway (emina and kazusa's require specific times to talk to them), especially if you also do missions and quests that involve leaving to the world map. but you get items that help with the time from missions on your second playthrough

Hito (and anyone else who's played the thing all the way through), question:

So I'm doing these Kazusa/ Emina sidequest (even though I won't be able to finish either because I missed Naghi's) and one of the cutscenes I unlocked (first break in chapter 7, post Kurasame's death) Kazusa and Emina are looking at a picture of what I assume are those original four crystal warriors I keep hearing about (and I assume Emina, Kurasame and Kazusa were all members).

Anyway Kazusa is - I assume - an established gay, purely because he's always banging on about how he prefers to study the male body. I wrote this off as possible coincidence until the scene I just witnessed, where they were looking at the photo post-Kurasame death and Kazusa says something about how the photo is proof that he was there, that he touched him, and then says "my body remembers his touch". Is this a canon gay romance? Granted in true FF style (from the one other male-male couple in FF) it's a hidden difficult to get scene, but it's irremovably there right? I don't think I can get anymore scenes with them in this playthrough so I was wondering if you had any info.

What I will say is that the internet Lexicon of Type-0 content is woefully inadequate compared to other FF games. I've never had this much trouble gathering information.

Game is going well, will probably complete my first playthrough in a couple of hours.

Ugh fucking
Machina, I genuinely don't think I've hated a Final Fantasy character this much... ever. What a fucking cunt.

Triple post alert!

Just finished the game for the first time, glad to say completely unspoiled.
I have to say I wasn't expecting that ending. Wow 0_0. Emotional and very well done. I'm looking forward to seeing these supposed extra scenes in the second playthrough, is there anything in particular I should look out for? I was expecting to learn more about Class 0, their origin etc. and why they call that uppity ho "mother". Is that information anywhere in the game?

Overall thoughts:

- Great game, everyone should give it a go
- Warning: some of the sidequests are complex and easy to fuck up or miss
- That song is amazing
- I got to fly an airship on the world map. For the first time in fourteen years. Important!
